TED talk that has connected with me.

Also, for me, connects with Monero.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0HIF3SfI4#t=14

(18 minutes)

very cool yes, worth watching. i think many of us are here because of the "why". it just feels right Grin
fck the money.

but also, moneros are no flatscreens. so things are slightly different

Listened to the first 2 minutes of the same bullshit they always start with. Jumped to 7 minutes still a load of crap. So what time is the meat?

Hey, if you don't "get it," there isn't much I can do to persuade you that it is worth your approval. However, I will go ahead and paraphrase the speaker and attempt to interpret it for digestion in our context:

The WHY is more important than the WHAT. The human brain works in a way that the WHY is more at the core of what motivates each of us. Focus on the WHAT should be secondary to the WHY a person or organization does what they do, and the speaker points out that he has observed this commonality in successful people and organizations.

I see it being relevant here and in regard to Monero because the Devs focus first on WHY Monero is important and useful. That drives them to work hard on making it work well.
Also, the Adoption Curve or what Sinek refers to as the "Law of Diffusion of Innovation" is VERY relevant to Monero.

If you watch the video, the part where Sinek mentions that the Early Majority will never try something new until the Early Adopters have tried it and reported back that It Is Good. Because, he says, they will at first say "We don't like it, we don't need it, and frankly, you are scaring us."
THAT IS HOW THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE WITH ANYTHING NEW. That's the complete lack of response that I got when I posted on my FB wall about MyMonero a few months back.
IMHO, the concepts Sinek talks about are relevant to ANYTHING, be it flatscreens or a cryptocurrency.

Thanks. Smiley I thought everyone already knew the question was "why"? My bad. I agree whole heartely just didn't need to be talked at for 18 minutes for that simple concept to be explained. BTW I still don't know where he talkes about XMR.

EDIT: Shit, I just noticed I misread the post! I thought it said he mentioned XMR. No wonder. DOH

I think DRK Rebranding to DASH is a good idea. If it was April Fools day I would think He was trolling his guys though. Smiley

Someone on reddit posted a screenshot of some transactions from a Bitcoin address and users were able to locate the person that owns these coins off of that screen shot alone. Scary to think about how easy this was for a group of people to do. Imagine if Google dedicated some of its resources to tracking people and their Bitcoin transactions. Makes me not want to use Bitcoin at all because now there is a permanent trail behind me that cannot be undone.

I used bitcoin anonymously to pay for a VPN service.

Using the service is legal, but I want to protect myself given my idiotic government is pushing to make collection of all internet "metadata" (DNS logs, IPs, cell tower locations etc.) mandatory in this country, and I value my privacy.

Here's what I did...

1.  Buy Monero and send to a private wallet
2.  Send Monero with mixing to new anonymous poloniex account (using one-time mail2tor email address for poloniex account, accessed via Tor over VPN service end-pointed outside 5-eyes countries)
3.  Sell Monero and send BTC to newly created one-time bitcoin wallet
4.  Send bitcoin to VPN provider

^--- This is why I own a few BTC's worth of Monero.  Once the people concerned about privacy/anonymity figure this out, monero uptake will rise rapidly.

In the meantime, the devs are working on the right stuff.. database blockchain and memory requirements are both key to getting mobile clients and more people using private monero wallets, so mixing becomes more practical.

Logging into mymonero.com always scares the crap out of me. The balance says "0 XMR" for a few moments until it updates. Every time, I think "Aaaand.. it's gone."

This works well and actually has mixing. I'm really not sure on the effort to crack needed but pretty good coin.

Still getting some error messages on MyMonero when I try to generate transactions:

"Too Many Amounts"

and a new one

"Failed to create transaction: Wrong number of mix outs provided (100 outputs, 99 mix outs)"

I keep retrying and guessing at lower amounts until it lets me generate a transaction. Thankfully, transaction fees are low enough that it doesn't hurt too much. And of course I must say that I love mymonero.com
I'm just giving some feedback.

Yeah, thats the reason I posted, is because I think that distinction of "why" vs "what" is what I see a lot of around here. I mean, yeah, the OP still presents monero as a "privacy-centric" cryptocurrency, but monero is not filling some niche. Its sort of summed up in the "monero; its more bitcoin than bitcoin" or "monero; its what you thought bitcoin was".

and I LOLd at your initial comments about the TED talk.

and yah, the concepts are relevant to anything, I just think that the "why" in regards to monero (or a true cryptocurrency in general (and by true I mean decentralized, open-source, secure, and private (which monero currently fits the bill, and hopefully will forever)))... is just so fricken epic, when I see his talk I'm like "yes, YES YES!! now now now now!!!"

This should be an interesting week. I wonder if HM_The_King had it right about 0.003-0.006 range being the 1st big cashout of XMRs from the early adopters and an opportunity for a 2nd wave of investors... Hmm...

Chaos could be a form of intelligence we cannot yet understand its complexity.
