Any reason for the price increase?

rats fleeing a slinking ship?

Wait. Wouldn't that cause the price to crash?

Any reason for the price increase?

I do not know the reason for the recent price rise. But Monero is being developed actively like bitcoin, unlike many other altcoins.

Any reason for the price increase?
This currency is just very unthervalued and now discoverd by big investors I think.
This is just a correction for the low levels we have seen and I say keep you XMR and do not take short therm profit.

Check your username over_bought Grin and this explains your opinion.
Taking profit is alway good but this move looks very stong and massive to me.

Yeah, the decoupling of market price and hashrate indicates, to me at least, that this is probably "investment" from the investor class. The good thing is that the hodling might be moving from whale miners that dump at X price due to electricity / hosting costs to investors that hold for years. This also explains those walls that were on poloniex. What was one of them... 80 xbt?

The bad thing, of course, is the lack of hashrate increase - I mean, good for me and my miner, but bad for network security. I'm still freaked out about my calculation that it would only take 6 million USD in nvidia 750 ti's to double the network hashrate.

My only hope is that some of this is piped to the devs.

Or more developers frolic to monero and knock at the door saying "yo - I could totally help libraryize" (or any of the other acronyms on https://getmonero.org/design-goals/)

and they will totally frolic - skipping, in fact, whistling  the good tune of privacy, decentralization and tail emissions.

The hash rate will come if the price holds up. Miners won't bother if this turns out to be a short pump and then right back down. Let's wait and see.

To the best of my knowledge my firewall settings are the same as they were 37 days ago when I last synced. I do have a new VPN now. Should that make a difference?

are you on windows or linux? if windows, its more likely that something may have changed since you last synced (antivirus update, some type of update, etc).

regardless of platform, I'd suggest reinstall. Just save your old files. You can even run simplewallet from your old folder after you install daemon to new folder.

I think fluffypony (or other core devs) forgot to post the new Missive, anyway here it is -> https://getmonero.org/2015/03/09/monero-missive-for-the-week-of-2015-03-09.html

The import simplewallet seed word list feature added to MyMonero is quite cool.  I'm almost tempted to do it purely for fun. Tongue
