No "real"proof except for the funds would have would not be sent out in little amounts stretched over a long period of time. If i was to move my funds it would be all at once. I was greeted with a you must update you wallet files, so I wanted to make sure I didn't screw anything up. I guess I could fire up an old wallet show you screenshots of the screen with the funds there but at soon as it hits that day the balance drops to 0.

Again, just looking for some advice on what appears to have happened. I still have the original wallet files and keys. I made backups before I started the update process. Have also only used the command line wallet.

So I assume the coins are gone, but I was wondering it there was any significance to that date (1/17/2016).

What Operating System were/are you using to store your XMR. If you usr products from Richmond US you should consider changing that to an UNIX'isch for that porpuse since we all know that WIN is the same like FB in terms of privacy and security of your data.

Thank you. I was using Windows 7 at the time. I'm out of the mining game for now. I will stick to investing via buying (sold most if, not all) of my hardware for medical bills . Funny this is I use Ubuntu (many flavors), CentOS and Fedora on my home machines. I'm not counting on getting the coins back, lesson learned. I screwed up somewhere along the line. I do hope he/she is caught however, I don't want to see anyone else have this happen to them. Crypto can be tough. Thank you all once more.

Do you guys ever have delayed sends from the Monero Windows GUI wallet?  I sent 4 transactions in 20 minute period (2 large and 2 small) and the 2 small ones were sent quickly and the other 2 disappeared for 2 hrs and then were shown in my transaction history with a time 2 hrs past the other small ones.

Be sure to use 16 digit passwords, and don't use the same ones for any other accounts than BTCtalk. You may even consider using Apple products and VPN/TOR for added security - although the captchas are not fun LOL

The 2 smaller ones were probably included in a block earlier, hence the perceived delay. This, for instance, could've been caused by those transactions having a more attractive fee per kB ratio. Alternatively, it could've been simply random.

If you enter your transaction hashes into https://xmrchain.net/ you can see in which block they were included.

• First step to not losing coins: don't use the same computer to both store a crypto wallet and use for web browsing, email, skype, java, etc. Buy a dedicated piece of hardware for $500 or less, turn off unnecessary services, enable firewall and don't use it for anything besides running a wallet/node.
• Second step, consider offline storage for significant amounts. Paper or electronic doesn't really matter as long as you have a well thought out plan in case you lose (access to) your primary storage device.
• Third step, consider your OS.

Yes, Windows and Apple have more exploits than Linux/*BSD but if you haven't thought out #1 and #2 above then it's sort of irrelevant. Safe computing practices will almost always protect your assets while relying on an OS to protect unsafe computing practices will not.
