New source (0.8.8.1) is up with optimizations in the hashing. Hashrate should go up ~4x or so, but may have CPU architecture dependence. Windows binaries are up as well for both 64-bit and 32-bit.

Do you know if the optimizations are in bitmonerod or in simpleminer or both?  Just trying to figure out if this will help pool mining via simpleminer or solo with bitmonerod.

Fantastic work NoodleDoodle. Compiling and testing it now.

Running windows x64 executable (bitmonerod), hashrate increased by 4.5 times: 20.5 => 92 H/s
Platform is Intel i7 3820 Sandy Bridge-E, 4 cores with hyperthreading. I mine with 7 threads, CPU util reads 88% and I know from testing that mining with 8 threads does not add a lot to the hashrate, and so I leave that last thread free for other apps.

Thanks NoodleDoodle for getting this done so quickly, testing changes on three platforms while under pressure - good work.
A lot of miners will be relieved that there is no longer the risk of some unfair competition going on.

After much hair-pulling, throwing of laptops out of windows, confusion, fury and general wtf-erry, i think i've managed to configure the wallet and get my hands on a few monero. result. 

However, being something of a noob to monero and it's alien tech, I have no clue how to back up my shiz. There's no wallet.dat in %appdata%, which file(s) should I back up, and where are they?

I'd like to make a public service announcement. Before I do, though, I'd like to say, all pool owners involved have promised to fix their issues, and I am not being paid, nor am I affiliated with the pool I'm going to recommend.

PSA: Both moneropool.com and moneropool.org are insecure. I'm not going to release details until I've given them a reasonable period of time to correct the issues, however, I will say that moneropool.org seems to be a LOT worse than moneropool.com, and none of the three pools I know of use a seperate server for the actual mining (which is very important when that server holds other people's money.) The admin of moneropool.org acknowledged the extreme issue with his pool, and promised to fix it (as of right now, it's unfixed), but he seemed to blow off the idea of either putting httpd in a VM, or on another server entirely. The admin of moneropool.com acknowledged the slightly severe issue, as well as agreeing the httpd should be moved or served out of a VM.

I'm going to recommend (and switch to immediately) extremepool.org. While their httpd is still on the same server as the mining daemon, they have no severe security issues - in fact, their security is excellent, as they seem to have taken several steps to secure their server, far beyond the default configs - and I spoke to the admin, who appears quite knowledgable and experienced in securing a server.

EDIT: Two pool admins have promised me MRO donations, moneropool.com and extremepool.org. However, I wrote this before I knew the admin of extremepool.org was giving me anything, so I believe the statement in my second sentence remains true.

I'm now mining at extremepool.org too. I noticed also that I've not been paid for my shares at moneropool.org despite one or two blocks being found hours ago.

Back up the .keys file (the file name depends on your wallet's name but usually something like wallet.bin.keys). You can also back up wallet.bin if you want, but that's really just sync data.

Just an oversight. The uploaded binaries correspond to the latest source changes but the version number was decided after compiling them.

To be fair, that's not a 100% sure sign something bad happened. I heard they do payouts manually.

Oh yeah, I didn't mean to suggest that. I suspect I'll get the coins. I think they had auto payouts working in the last day or two, so it's just a wee nudge for the pool owner, that's all

The payout of http://monero.crypto-pool.fr/ is working. I've been testing on the test-net with Perl.
Perl was able to edit the code himself to automate payout.

Unfortunately, since we've been on the production-net, because the difficulty is too high we haven't found a block !

The whole development on CN coins is getting done for monero right now. The rest are irrelevant and will continue to be except if they bring something innovative. Boolberry might be promising but not for now.

Depends how you look at it. More people might start to use it when there is a GUI wallet, and/if Monero is added to Bittrex and other exchanges. So greater demand would in fact increase the price....maybe?!

If by 'new coins' you mean the number of MRO hitting the markets - the rate of production is the same no matter how many miners there are.
