hey guys. I've been trying to download the blockchain for a few days now following the guide on http://monero.cc/getting-started/ and I'm stuck on block 56058 (38 days behind) no matter if i download the blockchain manually or let it sync itself, and I'm running out of ideas. Is there an upgrade I'm missing and the guide is outdated? Thanks

Is this new(?) SSL attack published by Google last night relevant for Monero and other crypto currencies?

https://www.openssl.org/~bodo/ssl-poodle.pdf

I think you're missing the point.
SSL in this case has nothing to do with current price.

Right, but I wasn't referring to current prices. My question is a general one.

Nope, not relevant for crypto coins. SSL is used in HTTPS or SSH protocol.

OK :-) But then it is of (high?) importance for crypto exchanges, right?

For sure it can be, but I think there are people who cares about it (security) and that they are already fixing it.

Good news from Polo:

"SSLv3 has been disabled on all of our front end servers."

You probably aren't stuck. The message you see is reporting peers that are stuck. What does the diff command report?

Are you running the latest version of the daemon?

I have over 350 XMR that have been stolen from me by mintpal and specifically these moopay people.  Please tell me that there is some sort of resolution coming to this and that our devs have been in touch with them to get this straightened out.  Huh  Cry

MP has been pretending they've been trying to be in touch with the devs whereas they havent. I'd avise you to read Smooth' posts. He mentions this. Its a big mess. Good luck.

Thanks to you and everyone for the responses.  We've obviously gotten a lot more information about what's going on with mintpal.
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be seeing my coins.
I understand that it's not the XMR people, etc.  What can you do?  It stinks. I've been "goxxed"

If mintpal was short of funds for whatever reasons, there is an easy solution to mitigate it:

1) Declare you will refund people in BTC, don't leave them any choice.
2) Dump all customers' XMR on another exchange, sell into bids until very low and strongly affect the price downward
3) Start to refund people based on new price - which is now much lower than originally and than the average one of your dump.

Refunding BTC makes sense, way easier if one person sells all the altcoins first, then sending out Bitcoins to customers. Compare that with the nightmare of getting each and every wallet up to sync.

According to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=824211.0 we are talking about

Quote
# USERS REPORTING: 97 out of 70,000

TOTAL MISSING (IN BTC)      412.89   BTC

MISSING BY COIN:

BTC   167.28
DRK   4,501
XMR   8,681

Oh! Current sells are not like that. Anyone loosing nerves out there? So you dont get cut by Mintpal, but by the weak hands out there. Small difference but the blame game wont stop.

At least Gox made up some lame excuses.  This is more like a Weexchange type "whoops we accidentally all your shitty scamclonefailcoins" scenario.

You'd think the ATM and Piefunding fiascos would have clued in the people who should have known better.

This is a prime example of why I despise ManBearPig-fearing PC-policed moderation-happy Reddit groupthink in general, and the airhead Doge community specifically.

Look at their pathetic excuses for censoring and even banning those who didn't buy into the Moolah scam..."bluh they weren't tactful bluhbluh they were being mean TROLLS bluhbluhbluh!"   Roll Eyes

How do you like your "FUD-free positive happy Shibe party atmosphere" now?

Aww, did your crappy Moolah.io store selling stupid meme stickers disappear, taking all your Doge with it and leaving you unable to sent tips to your circlejerk buddies?

I hope those trying to herd the colorful XMR community into moderated threads/forums learn the value of vehement, resolute dissent from this.

All 3 transaction have simply disappeared, written off and lost coins. https://minergate.com/blockchain/mro/blocks
How can this be? I always translated coins in such a way and never had any problems.
What do I do now? How to return the coins?

Run latest daemon with latest blockchain, let it sync.
Delete (but keep .bin.keys file) wallet.bin and run simplewallet --wallet-file wallet.bin.

When you log in you arrive in a special withdrawal page : In this page I can see all my balances right, including XMR, which is somewhat a good presage. You can specify retrieval adress for each coin, including XMR, then save.
They says that each withdrawal is manually approved and for some coin such that XMR, il will take a longer time due to some daemon problems.

Overall, I believe I will recover my coins, but I am rather an optimistic guy and I had only small amounts of coins. Wait & see.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but where are new builds for better checkpointing, announced two missives ago?
Not that it would be crucially necessary, but some "lifesign" before further tests with per KB fees etc. would be neat. Smiley

You can compile and run it right now off github - we're having some issues with static builds (required for binary releases), and have gotten KitWare involved (the company who created CMake), so resolving it is in progress.

Meanwhile, darkcoin keeps getting free buzz on coindesk:
http://www.coindesk.com/all-things-alt-block-chain-notaries-darkcoin/

Monero's privacy and therefore fungibility are MUCH stronger than Bitcoin's.
This makes Monero a better candidate to deserve the term "digital cash".

Ok, that sounds like a good reason. Hope that compiling issues will be totally sorted out in the future.
