In the wake of http://www.blockstream.com/ essentially making sidechains an inevitability - what is the point of holding XMR now? Wont all of the privacy Monero offers be available within the bitcoin blockchain?

how?

As I understand sidechains, you can essentially utilize all of the functionality of an alt while remaining on the bitcoin blockchain. This therefore removes the need for any alt, including Monero.

i see. it is done by hand-waving.

it is a familiar technique, which accomplishes much - but it does not accomplish what you suggest.

Expecting a serious response to a serious question, but I get trolled. If you are looking to instill confidence in Monero this is not the way to go about it.

The benefit of Monero is that all the users are apart of the anonymity set, not just the people on the side chain.

For the side chain to work best, many people would have to keep funds in the side chain for a period of time, the shorter, and the worse the overall anonymity of all users will be.

apart or a part, english be funny

If you don't know where you're going any road will get you there

Big dump, and then big pump!

These very big sells (> 10 BTC), is it some miner dude selling all his coins in packages? Doesn't seem reasonable to sell all these coins at once... a slow going sell procedure usually comes with a higher average price. Weird situation.. who's that dude?

Maybe whales trying to push the price down to buy cheap coins?

Big sell walls like those are often used to get people to panic sell. In which case some sort of pump is to be expected in the future.

Monero may not be a pump and dump coin, but there is certainly a lot of dumping going on, and the price is starting to suffer.

It's going down with bitcoin unfortunately. I think people might be worried about the sidechains as well.

Oddly though, a lot of other alts are up.

I think we are seeing a realignment of demand for Monero. Most people who already want it at this point have it, so there is limited new demand to absorb the mined coins, until a new equilibrium is reached at a lower price.

Expanding the economy and brining in new users is what is needed. We now at least have one building and role playing game (Crypto Kingdom) that has gotten off to a great start. We need more of this.

Crypto Kingdom sounds ridiculous. What is needed is integration with darknet and privacy-related services, as others are saying.  It's strange how little focus there has been on privacy issues for an anonymous coin.

Monero's marketcap is 2.7 million euros, and that is not exactly much. For example I command a larger wealth.

Price is down, true. So it is time to look at the fundamentals. As I see it, the people in the center positions in Monero development and economy (me included) have not lost heart during the price fall. The fall has punished all coins equally, Monero is not a special case, nor an exception.

Why Monero is still the best and only altcoin bet that I have invested in, is because of the following:

- "The legitimate CN coin" despite what trolls say.
- Very large developer base, including the 7 core developers.
- The MEW providing support for economic and service infrastructure side.
- The open question about emission rate change, which has caused uncertainty, will be voted in MEW with result in 2 weeks.
- Crypto Kingdom has XMR as ingame currency and is already valued at 260,000 XMR.
- There will be a "Blockchain.info" type webwallet very soon.

Despite that I see the future as very bright, especially related to other altcoins, Monero will continue to suffer if the general market continues its turmoil. I view the current prices as an opportunity regardless, and have resumed buying.

One reason is that since it got on exchanges, coin was cheaper only once. And there was never not even one trade made for less then 3 times cheaper as it is now.

What i wrote should not be main reason to buy coin. But what i wrote shows it is perfect time to do it.

Big dump, and then big pump!

These very big sells (> 10 BTC), is it some miner dude selling all his coins in packages? Doesn't seem reasonable to sell all these coins at once... a slow going sell procedure usually comes with a higher average price. Weird situation.. who's that dude?

No.  It's speculative dumping of one form or another.  Plenty of people have very short time-horizons and little tolerance for low prices.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Give a man a Poisson distribution and he eats at random times independent of one another, at a constant known rate.
