You can buy XMR directly with USD in Poloniex

RAM usage is continuing to get worse as well. I have 7.67/8GB in use now and rising as it's syncing.

I think it just uses most you have. Some said it use most of their 3 gb RAM. Probably also most of 16 gb RAM. It is true that is not so convenient to run bitmonerod. You just do when you really have to. Lets hoe soon will get better.

I'm already in full Monero and I'm stuck with these low prices. I wish I had more Bitcoins to buy Monero. It's clear it's a buy time.

And 30~29 clearly was a time to go short. Just daytrader economics do not work out here, mentioning that "self fullfilling prophecy" again. If everybody sells to rebuy lower, they will surprisingly discover the lowest bottom beeing 0.0000001 BTC

Two sane advises:
  • Only "invest" play money into cryptos
  • If situation turns out to become uncanny, just sweat it out. Twiddle thumbs, poke your nose, sit and watch.
Honestly, on the long term the simple approaches do work out. At least something to take from former Bitcoin history.

I'm hoping that someone can help me with a transaction I sent, but that appears to have disappeared. This is my first ever transaction with monero, so perhaps I have done something stupid.

So, I sent some XMR to an exchange (poloniex) using the command

Code:
transfer 0 47sghzufGhJJDQEbScMCwVBimTuq6L5JiRixD8VeGbpjCTA12noXmi4ZyBZLc99e66NtnKff34fHsGRoyZk3ES1s1V4QVcB 20.06 c64549c6664a13a100a325d75cd61d74fdd9a11924973e844b0d0c4df8d4a675

and I got the response

Code:
Money successfully sent, transaction <7b25c9881c5fc89b68c6ae253402073fdf6b72891c26e4685f609574e4796fb1>

After almost three hours, it hasn't shown up at the exchange, and if I use the command

Code:
payments 7b25c9881c5fc89b68c6ae253402073fdf6b72891c26e4685f609574e4796fb1

I get the response that there are no payments with that ID.

Yes, I refreshed the wallet, and the amount was debited from the balance of my wallet. I am using v.0.8.8.1.

Thanks for the help

Hi, it looks like you did everything just fine, however I'm not seeing that transaction on the blockchain. Were/are you running the bitmonerod daemon in the background , and is it in sync?

if it had actually worked properly, this link should work:

I am using v.0.8.8.1.

That is too old. You need to upgrade to current version from the OP.

Then wait 24 hours to see if the transaction eventually goes through.

If not, then backup your wallet and then delete the wallet.bin file (not .keys file) and restart the wallet. The coins will be returned to your balance.

So I'm concerned about keeping my XMR in Poloniex after these SEC letters.  I'd really rather not deal with the wallet software.  Is there a safer option than Poloniex besides the wallet?

Either a wallet or another exchange, or you can make a deal with a trusted member here to hold it for you.

If you are planning to just hold long term, using simplewallet.exe really is not that difficult at all.

What about Cryptsy?  I hear they're actually SEC-compliant.  Are they going to add XMR?

You can buy XMR directly with USD in Poloniex

I do not think that is accurate. The following might eventually simplify things, if you bought XUSD for USD directly on coinomat.com: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=775733.0

Edit: Anyway, I am seeing some sketchiness regarding coinomat.com, though I'm not saying they're not legit: http://cryptomining-blog.com/1938-coinomat-crypto-currency-exchange-adds-withdraws-to-credit-card/

Cryptsy has said they are going to add XMR but has not given a specific schedule.

I'm so tired...
Guys can you please post that missive so that I can go to bed?...  Cheesy

I'm glad I went to sleep a bit. I'd be barely human by now.

Monero's privacy and therefore fungibility are MUCH stronger than Bitcoin's.
This makes Monero a better candidate to deserve the term "digital cash".

I'm trying to learn how to use simplewallet. I ran simplewallet and created a wallet. Do I also have to run bitmonero.exe or can I just send XMR from and exchange to the address that my simple wallet created without running bitmonero.exe? If I do this, is there any way to verify the coins got there?

You can send from the exchange to that address. You don't have to have bitmonero.exe running. You could even use simplewallet.exe to generate an address on an offline computer and still transfer moneroj to it.

To verify that that coins got there, though, you will need to run bitmonero.exe to sync the blockchain (which will take a while), and then you can type "balance" without quotes while running simplewallet.exe to check it.
