I know developing is slow, but if we do not horry, some other coin with similar or better features with GUI-wallet may replace monero.

There is currently no GUI wallet for Monero, but they are in development and look quite nice on top of that. Monero is a great cryptonote coin and I'm not currently worried about another altcoin replacing it. The fact that there is no user friendly wallet to use should make you realize how early to the game we are, accumulate while you can.


By the way: I'm for hire. If you have a smallish job I'm looking for work in increments of 25-50 Monero

I'm also willing to sell stuff for Monero (I know right now there is essentially little to no direct market for it). So let me know what you guys want for Monero and I'll see what I can do

Why not just run simplewallet, create an address, store the seed and wallet file and throw it all away until we get a GUI?

Without blockchain database GUI wallet does not make much sense. Good job done on database implementation. We all just have to be patient. I am waiting for GUI too, but I am very happy that core devs were busy fixing security and implementing essentials instead.

I am just going to leave this conversation here (note: tacotime is a core dev). Sammy007 makes valid arguments as well.

You can't expect the raise of public usage unless you show people the official GUI. I don't know why is it so late, more than 6 months passed.

We're working on making the software more functional for payment processors and web wallets rather than concentrating on a GUI for the wallet that is attached to the daemon. The vast majority of Bitcoin users do not use full nodes anymore. In fact, only about 700 full nodes even exist on the Bitcoin network anymore.

Does this apply to making lightweight wallets as well? In that case I agree with your points, but still it would be nice to release the GUI asap, since it´s a great aspect of marketing.

Yes. We're trying to get the framework in place to do SPV-style clients like Electrum, so Windows users won't have to sync the blockchain, etc.

i think lightweight wallets are key for future adoption, so i happy happy the dev team sets its focus there.
i feel that many people interested in anon coin right now get sucked into dark since they have massive PR.

@pönde: did you really try ? how can we help you? making paper wallet for xmr is very very easy.

I agree that DRK's marketing is a lot better than ours, but we should wait with heavy marketing till all key features are completed (GUI,DB). Advertising XMR in it's current state will only generate a contradictory effect than what we desire.

@ponde: Maybe you should ask for help on the irc channel. Joining it is fairly easy, go to http://webchat.freenode.net/, set your name, set the channel to monero and connect. If you are in the channel, just state your question(s) and someone will help you for sure.

I'm now running a monero node using less than 512MB of RAM.

Can anyone tell what's the size of the resulting database file?
