I like the fact that it uses mounting holes. Come on BFL just offer naked boards for $40 less. No PSU, no heatsink, no case, no fans. I can find a way to cool em.

This is a Gold PSU and I am still using about 20 to maybe 30 watts more than I was with the power bricks. Go figure. The PSU is a very reliable power source though. those cheap power bricks will probably not last long. Nice not having 10 of them plugged in anymore too.

I recognize that usb hub Even though it works well, I think that I would get the 12 port hub if I had to do it over. With the 12 port hub, the lights for each connected single are unambiguous, with the 24 port hub it can be tough the distinguish when both red and green LEDs are properly lit.

I wonder if the 5V 3.3V and negative rails are just burning power. I see you have a USB hub maybe run it off your 5V line if you haven't already it may cause less wasted power. I am assuming that the voltage rails use some power just sitting there. There could be other issues. I wish I could come up with something the 3.3V would be good for. I was hoping to do the same kind of thing when I get a couple. I am sad to hear efficiency seems to suffer.

You might be able to fix that by using the PSU to power the host system, and the host could be some kind of cheap mini-itx board. But I see 8 Singles, which should equate to about 560 watts DC. If the PSU is a 600 watt model, I wouldn't expect it to be within 90% efficiency at so close to maximum load. However I'm not sure what its rating is. Do you have the make and model?

What PSU is it? Its powering 10 singles. 860 watts for the singles and the PSU. The hub and the laptop are on another circuit. They are using about 20 watts. CoolMax ZPG 1200 I bought this one because I have 4 more on the way and wanted it to power them all. With the 10 singles with the power bricks and the laptop and the hub I was pulling 850 watts total. Then theres the $200 PSU I bought and all the connectors. I'd say it is not a good financial investment but it did clear up a lot of space.

I was referring to the aftermarket PSU he hooked up, not the included adapters. The PSU he has should be more efficient than the adapters, but does not appear to be. The adapters are approximately 84% efficient.

I'd send it back if I weren't so pleased with it powering all the singles from one cord. I used 18 awg wire. Thats the same as the PSU itself uses. I'm considering cutting the cords to no longer than necessary. I can tell by how flexible the are that they are probably losing a watt or 2 each themselves. They aren't exactly warm but not what you'd expect either. Each connector came with a 6 foot wire already attached. Seemed handy but it could be where I'm losing some of the efficiency.
