I want to report in on my findings, running a pair of S3. One gets consistent 430GH over 1 day, 6 hours. Default clock speed The other one gets consistent 410 GH over 1 day, 6 hours. Default clock speed
I've rebooted the slower one several times, and all chips show OK status. They are on independent power supplies. Only one miner per 700W power supply.
Only upside is temperature is consistently below 40.
did you try to ssh into it and change to 212.5 (as philipma did)? (comment on 218.75 with # and uncomment 212.5) Good tip. I will try that. I also notice there is a lot of discarded shares. And 225 and 218.75 frequencies all have the same time out values. I wonder if setting lower time out values with higher frequencies will help reducing discarded shares. Anyone tried that yet?

I would say a scathing insult about using paperclips. But it is your gear and your money. I won't use paper clips. I won't use server psu's. same reason for either of the above. shock/short hazard. I sale my gear used and tested on ebay or to local miners. So I don't sell gear that has short/shock hazards. Oh the scathing insult is don't be "stupid cheap" or better known as : "pennywise pound foolish" and those paperclips would fit that bill. as would the server psu's in any home with kids or pets. How would server PSUs in any way be dangerous? If anything they are safer due to much higher build quality and higher quality components. the break out boards have exposed solder points crossing a neg to a positive is possible Easily fixed with any number of less than $3 off the shelf solutions, and you could make the same argument that someone could cross wires on a ATX supply. I dont have to worry about my cables being too thin for the load, or crappy components blowing under 100% load- these dells can do 110-120% load for months at a time without issues

3 S3's received on the 17th. Set them all up with 750w PSU's of various sort. First 24 hours all 3 OC'd to 250 mhz and getting about 500gh/s each. stoked! After about 28 hours, notice one "x" on the first S3. Rebooted, went away for about ten minutes them returned. Average hashrate dropped to 470ghs. Set it down to 237.5, all "o" and getting about 475 ghs average, little more on poolside. I'lll take it! A bit concerned that one has temps of 46 sometimes, during hotter times of the day. Is this too hot to maintain? Ihave these temperatures as normal in the part of the world am located with normal settings so no worries

People who say anything about not meeting ROI are ignorant. How can you comment on ROI when you have no idea what the cost of bitcoin will be next week, next month, etc.
You should measure your ROI in BTC, not $. I paid 1.5 BTC for these 2 S3's. I am doubting they will end up mining that much. The fiat value of BTC now or after 3 months of running these units matters little to me. I think once you are in the crypto world long enough or deep enough, you start thinking of the cost of everything in BTC. I am about to buy a house, only 30,000$, so a steal really. But my mind immediately did some quick math and I thought "shit, this thing is gonna cost me nearly 50 BTC. This will sting a bit".

I think there is a slight misunderstanding here: 1) Phil resells some fraction of his stuff, so he uses something that has a veneer of being CE, UL compliant because he will sell to noobs. Ther is no need to dump on his method. 2) The paper clip shorting plug solution is functionally ok. With a pair of wire cutters you can get 2 - 4 "shorting plugs". If you are worried about shorting something out, cut a 1" length of electrical tape and cover or if you want to go broadway, couldn't you urethane coat the exposed part. I'm a paperclip person because it's fast, reliable and cheap for me.

Is there an OC table?
I mean:
With X Frequency --> Y GH/s --> Z watts
and so on.
Just to know which frequency its the best.
And of course i know every S3 is a world, and some can OC better than others, lets see my S3 batch 2 units if they can OC fine or not, and i just have to run them default frequency

...or use an 18AWG insulated copper wire (prettier than a paper clip) that's probably already in your junk parts drawer (or get a thermostat wire with strands of 18AWG wires in it from your local hardware store that cost a few cents per foot). Cut about an inch long and shape into a "U" and strip the insulation at each end about a quarter inch. Use the PSU's switch to turn the miner on or off...it's free!

If you get the evga 1300 watt psu's they come with an adapter piece that switches the PSU on. Only PSU i've ever seen that included this and it looks like a well built power supply. I can't wait to hook them all up on tuesday!

Watts = Amps x Volts Therefore: A = WDC/12VDC

Actually, this feature was exclusive only to the EVGA SuperNOVA 1500 Classified (learned about it during the golden BFL days ). It's good that they are now including it in most if not all of their SuperNOVA line.

My next door neighbor did that and one of the neighborhood mutts came by and Peed on them! Wow, that sounds terrible. I'm in an apartment complex so I don't expect that to happen but once I had my Amazon package get labelled Delivered while the box was nowhere to be found. That would suck if it happens to these guys.
