Notice this is testnet hardfork (not main net); a few places mentioned that.

Added to the update:

Planned hard fork in the main net: 10/24/2014 3:00 PM EST

This will be the earliest time depending on the test, and the miner and pools should be ready. I have contacts with two pools, both of them told me algo changing won't be a problem.

Edit: about the algo name, let's just keep it the same since we have used it every where; it represents for CPU minable algo.

I'd say this sentence is pretty clear:

Quote
[M7M hardfork in testnet]

Here we are going a hardfork to be happening on 10/17/2014 8:00 PM EST.

i.e. there will be a fork on the testnet.
yes but it isn't yet 10/17/2014 8:00 PM EST, however it is already possible to test the new algo on testnet.
Which means this date doesn't refer to the testnet hardfork but to the main net hardfork.

I suggest that someone with a big rig (this kind of counts me out) hit the testnet with the current version of the software (not the new version under test).  See if you can connect and what disruption you can cause.  Try resetting your system clock ahead or behind a couple of hours and see if the block chain forks or PoW block generation stops.  Hopefully this won't happen.  Some coins have had problems during hard forks.

Joe do you know when the hard fork (non testnet) will go live?

I support Magi the first anti-botnet mining network to give regular miners the fair chance of mining. Talk to #Magi on IRC: https://kiwiirc.com/client/irc.freenode.net/#magi or on BitcoinTalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.0

A quick info, if you're not intent to test the testnet hard fork, you won't need to do anything, also unnecessary to use the new wallet for the main net.

Nice pics you got there and you are spot-on with "Is not easy to mine" and "It's unique". I am taking a brief "mining holiday" and dedicating this machine to the testnet for the changeover. It is a lot of fun. I got over 300 XMG in just a few minutes Cheesy Cheesy I'm rich beyond the wildest dreams of avarice Cheesy Cheesy Looking forward to seeing what happens in about an hour's time.

I think that when the "live" changeover happens your current wallet address will be safe, but it is always a good idea to take a backup of your wallet.dat file frequently in any case. The fork has only happened on the testnet so far, but everything seems good atm. My hashrate has gone down from 20~21 Kh/s to around 8.6 Kh/s which is roughly what was expected. The wallet on testnet says it is staking and the expected time for reward is six minutes, but it has been saying that for over half an hour now. Monitoring ...
