Prices are good right now for accumulators, always useful to hold some XMR bags as it has a real world use albeit a dark one. People have guns at home for protection, it is worth having some monero as well, never know when it might come in useful.
Yeah, just like keeping cash on hand right?

This point is vastly underrated. The prepper community stockpiles guns and supplies completely ignorant that their preparations are useless against their most likely adversary: government. The lesson of the 20th century is that governments are highly effective genocide institutions with a death toll of approximately 203 million. Government death toll by century:- 18th century: ~18 million
- 19th century: ~ 45 million
- 20th century: ~ 203 million
The 21st century is off to a slower start, but I expect the trend to continue. The number of displaced persons just hit a record high at 68.5 million. Things haven't even gotten bad yet from a geopolitical perspective. We will see record numbers murdered by the government in this century. Preppers are watching doom porn and prepping for fictional scenarios. They are delusional to think their small arms stockpile will have any meaningful impact on their survival in the face of war or democide. My bugout bag consists of a hardware wallet with a year of living expenses. Bitcoin (and even more so Monero) are incredibly powerful tools for freedom. Far more than an AR-15 in your basement. Very interesting rise in price and volume (as well as hashpower ). Not in concert with much of anything else... Not really huge yet, but some of the highest volume on an upswing in months. Thoughts?

I was sitting there watching the last dump before the rise and had a bid in at .012251 IIRC and it dropped right to my bid and never touched it before shooting up. It was like going to a strip club. I think those that were waiting on Grin realize it is years away and are trying to quietly get back in.

I think those that were waiting on Grin realize it is years away and are trying to quietly get back in. Grin is amazingly cool. But there are SEVERAL issues that mean it is not a replacement for Monero or Bitcoin. 1. New tech, new implementation. Unproven. 2. Difficult UX (remember when Monero was only for "geeks"?) 3. Diametrically different emission to BTC. And even though XMR has the tail emission which is hated by 21MM purists, Grin's version is even more anathema for them. 4. Monero is still best in class privacy. Period. I think #4 is where Monero needs to continue to push development. Along with scaling improvements that is really what is important. Monero's privacy is the only real reason for it to exist at all in my humble opinion. To be honest I am wondering if MW is better as a sidechain on BTC/XMR than as a base layer... but I have not spent as much time analyzing that.

Difficult UX is putting it lightly. I would consider myself quite a geek and it's confusing even for me, there is very little valid documentation on how to use it. I also seem to have permanently lost some GRIN from unintentionally cancelling a transaction (?!).
Monero will have a MW sidechain soon - I think it will be more promising than Grin, at least currently. I do like that Grin is implemented in Rust, but it has too many technical issues currently.

- If you send a transaction but the process is interrupted before you finalize it, you need to do grin wallet cancel -t TXID and then (due to a bug which will probably eventually be fixed) grin wallet check
maybe this might help?

That is a good question and While I would think having Monero as a base layer will not allow (as much potential) leakage and keep the privacy safer I'm not sure if the trade off for bitcoins security of chain is a better option. So basically, Idunno either.

Hi guys. Been a while. Hodling strong. How is kovri progressing?

maybe this might help? It's already cancelled, at least on my end - it entered cancelled state after running grin wallet check.

Jeezus - I've been away for awhile too So what's the deal with Grin? They published a comparison to Zcash, but nothing head to head with Monero - https://github.com/mimblewimble/grin/wiki/Grin-and-MimbleWimble-vs-ZCashLooks like Grin has a long way to go before it can be considered competition for Monero imho. But that being said, I do think the Monero Dev Drama could be some cause for concern
