So, can someone tell me, if I send a message to someone knowing only their user name, do they only know my user name, or do they also get my phone number and real name? Is there a way to edit my user name? No they will only know your username, although it gives you the option to share contact info. Also, what is the difference between Secret Chat and just sending a message? Does the bitcoin wallet generate a new address every time I receive some? Is there a way to manually generate a new address? Not sure about this, maybe someone else knows? Finally, is there any documentation for the app? both How to Use and How it Works type info? There is no FAQ yet, which should be available on the website, i guess when the app is ready and some bugs fixed it should be done. Cool thanks. Would love to get a message from someone and maybe play send some gems back and forth. My username is Pilot if anyone is interested. I already sent you a message. Erm... never got it. Just double checked. I also sent you message, and it shows that you were online last time on 29/4/2015,

I have sent 10 Gems to my friend through this app about 2 days ago, still my friend has yet to receive it, and guess there is no way to check it as it transfers off block chain as far as I concerned?
It will be nice to see Sent/Received history within app, and also to have function which easier way to send contacts Gems.

For the second time, I tried GetGems on my android phone and a friend's OnePlus One.
After about a week, I see 100+mb of data usage on each device, despite very little time spent using the app. Also, the OPO showed high battery usage. So unfortunately it's got to be uninstalled again...
Then I looked on my Nexus 7 2013, and the app has used 285mb in the past month, and 247mb of that is background usage. Again, I've barely used the app on my Nexus.
It's hard to believe the data use is from emoji/gifs/media. And I don't want to restrict the app in any way from it's default settings. Maybe some of the data use is from the app updates?
Anyone else out there with this issue?

There is a new update on google play, it fixes this issue.Edit: I think it's the new update, I am in the test group and we received an update today but it might not be updated on google play yet but it does fix the high data usage.

maybe it's because of the constant BTC blockchain syncing?

Please send me an email me at daniel@getgems.org or message my GetGems username peled1986 and I will add you to the beta testers group. The new version we are going to release solves the data usage issue. maybe it's because of the constant BTC blockchain syncing?
This isn't the reason.

Tap on contacts and type the username in search box, when you found that person you just tap on it and it opens the chat window, once you have send a message that person will be added to the users in chats.

Thank you! Maybe a future version could say "global search" or something. I recently discussed this issue with a new GetGems user, and they insisted that I must know their sms number to add them!

It is still not so stable I guess , your online status is last seen as 29/4 ,that's weird ,
And I can't even send gemz using this app, 10 gems I sent to my friend is lost I think.

Is background refresh required for GetGems to work on iOS? I turn that off on 99% of my apps.

Background refresh keeps the bitcoin SPV client in sync with the network so when a user opens the app its already in sync making the user experience more smooth.

Ok, perhaps I am not very smart... but I reinstalled the app.
What is my username? Is it my "Name" at the top of the app.
Or is it "username" where it says username under gemwallet?
Does my name show to people that just message my user name, or is that kept hidden unless I share contact info?
When I go to settings and click Edit I can change my name but not my username?
I can also find user @pilot 1 whatever that means? So, that must not be me.
Someone ELI5.
