Darkcoin changed to DASH
Maybe GetGems and the naming of the GEMS inside the app can both change to Gemz?

GEM is already taken by another bitcoin company btw - https://gem.co/.

I would vote for Gemz Messenger if indeed the tokens inside the app also change to Gemz, if not then GetGems is the best choice, but the most important is putting a solid working app and releasing the airdrop and AE.

I also pretty much agree on the name too. But also as you say the important thing is the app, Whatsapp is actually a terrible name, people accept apps name is the function is good not the other way around.

I hope the airdrop is coming soon, Getgems needs some momentum again. I'm most excited about the app working and seeing how the right kind of marketing can rapidly boost the user count. Telegram got traction cause the makers already had a high profile. We will need to work to get the app in front of eyes.

GetGems is an unusual brand name, in that it implies action and uses a verb in its title--I can't recall a brand that does that. In order for a brand to be successful, it has to be easy to pronounce and easy to remember, among other things. It doesn't necessarily have to imply what it is, but I suppose the logic is that people searching for Telegram will see "GetGems" and wonder what it is. I don't know how many people will download it based off of that. Whatever the case, it seems to be working... as long as people can remember it and search for it, then that's what matters. The product sells itself.

Maybe GetGems will suffice in the short-term, with a possible transition to GemsChat in the longterm when the airdrop and the referral Gems are no longer available.

With regard to marketing, it doesn't make sense to market/promote GetGems until the airdrop and the Gems referral system are working 100%, so they would are probably waiting until then.

The thing is, even if people type telegram and fall on getgems they might only download it out of curiosity but nothing more.

I hope the app will be marketed correctly on social networks because the only reason i am using whatsapp is because alot of my friends are using it already so I would go with the same logic with getgems. If its marketed correctly and i see friends of mine starting to use it too I would be using it myself. right now i am sure most of us just have the app sitting on their mobile phone since there is already tons of other apps out there.

Also I was thinking of a feature which I am not sure will be implanted but would really be amazing. Group video chat with getgems? Is this in the plans?

I use it 24 7 and have gotten at least 10 people using it.  I haven't even tried marketing outside my sphere of friends.  Marketing won't be a problem since each user gets paid to advertise.  Most of us are waiting till some bugs are ironed out before going pedal to the metal.

talking about marketing, just an idea but you know when people use bitcoins to buy stuff and there's usually discount?

so when advertisers put ads on the app and if the ads is about some promotion, what advertisers can do is to help promote the GETGEMS app at their stores. so that people can use the GETGEMS app to make purchases using BTC or GEMZ. GETGEMS help advertisers, advertisers help GETGEMS. And Advertisers help clueless customers who are new to bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Customers wouldn't know what to do exactly in order to use bitcoin or GEMZ so that they can get the discount.

the only missing step is converting Cash-on-hand into bitcoin or GEMZ on the spot inside the store, in front of the cashier. one way is the Bitcoin ATM. But is there something more efficient? like i pass a $50 note to the cashier and the cashier has some sort of system or app to buy BTC/GEMZ on the fly and then deduct the amount for the purchase and send the remaining to the customers' GETGEMS app?

Because it doesn't make sense. The PIN code was put in place for security, a noob with 10 Gems and a noob with 10K Gems is still a noob. What about sending Gems? So does that mean that if a PIN is not used and the phone is lost then the persons Gems will be easy to steal? Instead of removing the PIN wouldn't it be better to have a better description about how to use the PIN? Debit and Credit Cards use PINs and people seem to be doing fine with that.

I would like to suggest to look into Nanoeconomics.

This is an interesting emerging economic model that will be greatly influenced by cryptocurrencies, especially the ones with rewards for customers such as GEMZ.

Chosing pin during registration causes to lose users as Daniel said and i agree with that, also it makes registrating even faster, some people don't like this making pin step during registration from my experience, if you don't want people to steel your Gems then you can enable PIN in settings. My friend forgot her pin and now she can't do much, she wished the pin wasn't neccessary cus she has a small amount, so giving the option to put pin off and on is much better.

On a side note if you have used NFC with your debit card you see that entering PIN isn't needed, it allows up to 25 euro to use NFC i think, so for small amount of funds in the app people should be able to disable PIN imo.

Your friend can uninstall, install and generate a new wallet for the Gems. The bits are lost however.

I still think it's a bad idea to have security has an option, but hey if "Daniel said"

Not about who said it but i agree with the point, her bits wouldnt be lost if she had the option to disable pin, she doesnt like it. Forcing pin is imo unneccessary. I myself would enable pin anyway cus i have a significant amount in the app, but i understand if someone doesn't want to press pin everytime.

And what about the talk of using email recovery for your wallet? If a pin is still going to be used there is always a chance that it will be forgotten, there will have to be an option for recovery if not people will get mad and uninstall the app.

Just an opinion but I never saw the pin as a biggie but it's true anything that adds to the registration process definitely causes some kind of friction. When downloading an app or game just on mild curiosity I often abort if they start asking too much of me in terms of info. The less the better IMO.

BUT the pin was actually not so complicated it's the having to give a phone number that puts some off and also the pass phrase as well I imagine....I guess you got to have decent security. I wonder if email registration is enough security for an app like Getgems? Its what people have become familiar with these days.

E-mail recovery would be helpfull indeed, although i asked this and it seems with bitcoin because of regulatory and security issues the passphrase and PIN code is generated locally on the device.  responsibility to keep it safe is on the user.

Askin phone number is most common way to register, mainstream is very familliar with this, you could ask for fb login but not sure if it's better than mobile number.

Another option might be giving the user the option to register with phone number, fb and snapchat.
