Sweet! I followed the directions finding me address hash and sure enough my shares are listed there. Now what? Don't tell me we still have to jump through all of those lawyer hoops!
Nope, you're special. When he laid out those procedures, he really meant everyone but you.

The problem is that gigavps does not trust this list because it came from nefario. I guess the list is only good for people who have no knowledge about how many shares they had. But then again Gigavps says he can't trust nefario, so how can he know that people will find the correct number of shares? Let's say the list shows to few or none of your shares You will have to do the lawyer stuff claiming the amount you say is correct. Gigavps can't know if you are lying or the list is false because he does not trust nefario. So what's the point? And let's say Gigavps finds out that you did claim to much. Well good luck opening a civil law suit against people from various non USA countries.

I still don't get it. I went looked at the GLBSE data and found the hash of my address. The amount of shares matches exactly what I expected, but I have to send in a bunch of personal information because I might be fake account created by Nefario? That's a long con considering how long ago I created my bitcointalk account. If I can match the email address and the wallet ID isn't that good?
What do you guys think, is any of this worth it for less than 30 shares? What's the threshold?

After finding that I had a double refund from GLBSE, I've tried contacting Nefario to get this thing sorted. At first, I just added him to the last PM I sent gigavps, but he's not receiving those (is it a restriction on scammers?). I then sent email, as I had some concern about whether I would be properly credited if I sent the second refund to 1BgPRMk4uaJrohM1T9Cn4Hd9pHaEL6FH5j. It's been two days, and still no response from Nefario.

So excess coins returned back, but no reply from him yet.

Hmmm I don't think I sounded aggressive. Maybe I wasn't clear enough about how I used "long con", I still don't get why I have to prove my identity to giga. From what I understand he thinks that the whole list might be a con from nefario. That doesn't make sense considering I, a forum member for well over a year (small compared to you, yes but still) am probably not a fake forum account created by nefario unless nefario pulled a long con. I found my address, it has the right share amount, I know my email address and wallet ID match. I still don't understand why that's not enough.

To all Gigaminers:
First, thanks to everyone who has submitted a claim. We will be reviewing then and verifying them against the list provided by GLBSE to start making payments. To make it easier to submit a claim, I will be creating a PDF file that you can print, fill out, sign and notarize. Multiple people have asked for this and I will certainly provide it.
When is this PDF going to be coming out... Naelr

Sorry, not calling giga a long con at all. Calling myself as in the Nefario fake forum account a long con. English is failing me.

I still think you take completely advantage of the current situation, other bond issuers handle this issue way more professional !
I just heard from a German friend, that is is forbidden to copy their I.D. Why would just anybody trust you and give you all this confidential data...
I am tired of your excuses ! At the moment you are just not more than a little scammer !

It's not so much about a con. Nefario is incapable of planning to pull off a long con anyway. :-) Regarding "aggressive", I was responding to your characterization of gigavps's activity as a "long con". Since that's a criminal accusation, it's aggressive. I get the feeling that you didn't intend it that way and that I misread your tone. I do apologize for that. Here is the situation as I understand it, and why I end up responding to posts (when I should just walk away, but xkcd 386 and all...). 1) Nefario ran an illegal securities exchange for some period of time. 2) No one who participated in the exchange (issuers or traders) knew it was illegal, and they operated in good faith. 13) Nefario discovered that he was running an illegal securities exchange. Pants were filled with poop, glbse was shut down, people were scratching their heads wondering "wtf?" 4) Nefario sent part of payment/info/etc. out to people and generally worked on changing the popular meaning of "Nefarious" to "acting in the dumbest way possible." 5) These actions made some people realize that they were stuck with an unknown number of obligations to bond/share/whatever holders that were established illegally. We all react to things in different ways. GigaVPS is either running a long con by getting everyone to identify themselves so he can do something clever with that information in exchange for the promise (and probable delivery) of payment, or trying to get his particular operation back into good legal standing. Unfortunately, the second one means that he has to be able to tell the authorities who his investors are. Lawyers are involved and his probably gave him the "best practices" for establishing the identity of his investors. He has also been working on simplifying the process as he receives feedback from the investors and as he educates his attorney about the charlie foxtrot that comes from doing business with bitcoin. At the end of the day, however, it's not just your word over the Internet that matters. He needs to have a "disinterested" third party attest that you have demonstrated your word in person. Affadavit, notarization, apostille, etc. is just a means to that end. As for short-cutting the process just to be rid of this hassle, longevity doesn't mean much on the forum. In fact, it seems the longer someone is here, the less trustworthy they are. I take your meaning, though. Unfortunately, the informal web of trust has been a primary attack vector on bitcoin since it has had "real value". It would be almost as easy for me to tell GigaVPS that I was the owner of a few hundred bonds and ask for my accrued coupon payments, but didn't see my info in the list. Thanks for replying and giving me a chance to apologize for calling you aggressive. 1I know, but proving the opposite would be too difficult. :-) I'm still in shock. Reeses can actually sit still long enough to explain himself in such a manner one wouldn't need the Unabridged Complete History of Bitcoin and Everything Else as a handy reference to maybe decode it, is that what we're supposed to believe?! I call for a scammer tag. Where is the reeal reeses and what have you done with it!

2) No one who participated in the exchange (issuers or traders) knew it was illegal, and they operated in good faith.1
B/S. And therefore all your deductions are B/S too. Everybody knew from day one that GLBSE was absolutely illegal, not regulated and therefore worth just as much Nefario's trustworthiness. In fact Nefario was always bragging that he was beyond the law "because Bitcoin" (there is even a videoclip of him telling just that a few days before the closing). Now issuers who trusted Nefario should be ready to pay the consequences or their (maybe wrong) choice to trust Nefario, or at least be consistent with their choice. As serious businessman they should own any consequence of their choices, not because they do not put their personal interest above anything else, but because they should know that their reputation is their most precious and irreplaceable asset. Vice versa, changing the rules after taking the money is the most criminal act in all this.

Did giga explain why he needed all this stuff from us? I still don't get why our email address + wallet id + forum presence isn't enough. I'd be happy to fine telling him my real name, but my tax id and photo ID? Why assume we even have them or am in the US? Giga told me in another thread once that he only worked "in bitcoins". For us to start getting random bit coin payments (I want my dividends!) why does that affect anything in the legal arena, its just data. Isn't this the whole point of bitcoin?

From the IRS site:
File Form 1099-MISC for each person to whom you have paid during the year: At least $10 in royalties or broker payments in lieu of dividends or tax-exempt interest; At least $600 in rents, services (including parts and materials), prizes and awards, other income payments, medical and health care payments, crop insurance proceeds, cash payments for fish (or other aquatic life) you purchase from anyone engaged in the trade or business of catching fish, or, generally, the cash paid from a notional principal contract to an individual, partnership, or estate; Any fishing boat proceeds; or Gross proceeds of $600 or more paid to an attorney.
My giga dividends are much less than $600... so.... even if it did apply, it doesn't apply......

Wait a second. Why just the issuers? How did the shareholders get out of this? Doesn't seem like very honest arguing.

Best practice? In short it goes like this: Give me all your personal data or I won't give you the money I took from you illegally. I didn't know it was illegal at that point so it's ok for me to keep it if you don't comply to my terms.
