at nicehash there is a lot about extranonce.
what is that extranonce? are old miners without this extranonce patch outdated? and therefore have lower chance to solve a block?

It's a modification they made for their coin hopping service. It has nothing to do with bitcoin mining and having your cgminer bastardised with the patch or not has no effect here.

Was that your donation? If so, thanks! So far everyone who found a block has donated 0.5BTC which has become a nice practice since the 0.5% fees barely do more than recoup the costs of running the server if only one block is found per month Smiley

It was him; if you follow it back on blockchain.info it leads to 1JUurq3m... (the generation address for the 3 blocks) in two steps. The 'not yet' is in reference to finding another block.

EDIT Damn, really need to type faster

Why don't you use a standard .25 BTC fee instead of the %? Personally, I could care less if the fee was .5 BTC.

The percentage captures a portion of the transaction fees too.

Higher fees would make sense if I were going for bigger profits. The reality is I'll never make very much running this pool, and the low fee represents the fact that it's a no frills pool and technology demonstration (though the demo is clearly over, everything works well now). If people feel obliged to donate it actually seems to bring the better out of this community which hasn't been particularly friendly in a long time.  Admittedly when people find themselves sitting on 25BTC, 0.5 as a donation doesn't seem so bad, but that's after the fact. When you don't have the BTC in the first place, 0.5 BTC seems like a lot whereas 0.5% does not.

You have 2 block finds but the confirmations are aggravatingly slow?  Sounds to me like a nice problem to have  Wink

Oh well, easy come easy go.

If that many miners was maintained on the solo pool I'd have to upgrade my server plan. As it is there's barely enough ram for bitcoind which is a ram hog and leaks memory over time and I need to restart it regularly. It got killed by an out-of-memory condition today, but luckily I have the backup bitcoind on another server for just such an occasion, though it is a little higher latency until the server's own bitcoind gets restarted.

Further to this discussion, if you are planning on dumping a lot of hashrate on this pool in the future, I should plan at the very least a server restart to pull in the latest ckpool changes which decrease memory usage further to minimise the risk of running out of memory again. This sort of upgrade would only have seconds of downtime at worst. If more hashrate is planned longer term, I'll pay the extra for more server ram but that will require more warning and time to do the upgrade so please inform me if this is planned as the cost is substantial as well.
