I just tried setting it up on a test system, using GUIMiner.

host : solo6.ckpool.org
Port : 3333
Username : A Wallet address
password : *Blank*

I get the error :

solo6.ckpool.org:3333 08/03/2015 23:43:30, [Errno 11001] getaddrinfo failed.

Any ideas?

First, do you have ipv6 set up on your machine? Second: does guiminer even support ipv6? I'm not even sure why anyone tries to do anything with it any more since it's been unmaintained for years now. Why not actually use real mining software... it works fine with cgminer.

Test your ipv6 connectivity here:

I'm using GUIMiner because it's simple and works with everyone else.
I wasn't aware it was outdated as I only use it for testing and I've only been into mining for a bit over a week.

I'll check out cgminer.

Do you have mining hardware or are you using a GPU?

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

Just for testing this I'm using my PC, so GPU.

I got it working though, using MultiMiner instead. Getting a bit under 800Mh/s. but using 200+Watts extra from my PS for the Video Card.

Question before I fire up an S3 for this:

When I mine solo on this pool, and shut the miner on and off , so it's not running 24/7, when it gets turned back on, does it start a new block from scratch, or continue where she left off?

There is no notion of progress/starting from scratch in finding a block.  Each hash your hardware finds has an equal chance of meeting or exceeding the current difficulty.

Potential DDoS attack immanent according to Bitmain, this surely is a bonus for the solo pools, Bitmain goes down less AntPool blocks 😊

Mining doesn't work that way, if other pool is down that doesnt't mean that you will find more blocks.
Difficulty doesn't change, therefore your chance to find a block also stays the same.

Total hash rate of the pool is completely irrelevant... you are solo mining.  The only hash rate that matters is your own.

Jonny's Pool - Mine with us and help us grow!  Support a pool that supports Bitcoin, not a hardware manufacturer's pockets!  No SPV cheats.  No empty blocks.

If you're a part of ckpool, you're solo mining.
