Ok, so I have a question that I hope someone can help me out with.  As some of you may have noticed I have (my company) has recently been climbing the hashing ranks (blockmines).  I have been programming my machines one at a time and this is part of a much larger project that will span months and years and possibly take us into our own Kano pool once we become large enough.  So where we are sitting now is a fraction of where we will be.  I have a business partner who has entrusted me with showing him Kano from the very beginning so he has not seen any other pools.  I have mined several others, antpool, eligius, slush, ghash, and when you come back to the fundamentals of what I am looking for in a pool there is nothing that I have found that can compete with Kano.  It took me a long time to make the switch to Kano, but they represent everything that is right about bitcoin mining, the biggest one is they are not in China Smiley.  So now that I have gotten all that out of the way we are planning to build a rather large infrastructure with Kano at the center of it all.  The one thing that my buddy and I cannot figure out is the top whales like canaan, antpower, and there some others I cannot think of right now, but they jump in for a few hours and then bounce out.  What is that all about? Some stay longer like canaan but he will disappear and jump to another pool.  I hope he reads this because I want to know what it is they are doing and where they are going.  Is there an advantage to doing what they are doing.  I would like CK or Kanos opinion on this.  With their kind of hashing power they have the ability to impact everyone's rewards.  I am not interested in pool hopping and didn't think with a PPLNS payout it would make sense to do so, but apparently they do.  What am I missing??

Thanks
Jeremy

Not sure about antpower and the others, but it might have been a failover if they only stayed for a short amount of time. I know there are some (large) miners on ScamClubNetwork that failover to kano. Canaan was assumed to be testing the new Avalon7s during their period of 3 PH+.

Ditto...and, at least with Canaan, it's surely their burn-in of the first batch of A7s. I had a brief (and very positive) RMA interaction with Jon in which he shared that they were feeling very good about the fortitude of the unit, after having tested "thousands."

Otherwise...I'm not sure anyone can answer your question on pool hopping, as that phenomenon is what it is. Everyone has a different take on strategies...hopping isn't one I happen to believe in, but oh, well...  Undecided

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

Ok, Canaan makes sense now and this is why I put it on the forum.  As far as failover, I didn't think about that but that also makes sense.  Help me out on the reference to scamclubnetwork, who are they really?  I always like to read about the scams out there, like genesis mining.  I have made a video on how bad they are, yet people keep opening their wallets to them.

When I was sleeping last night ... I was dreaming about Canaan doing a promotion for all the Kano user.

Everyone mining here for the last 3 month would have been able to buy the new A721 for 50% off.

Then I wake up !   Grin Grin

Not Kano, but I would say it was probably found very quickly after the previous block was found on the network, so less transactions included in the block. Just my .02. Smiley

The block was found 20 seconds. After the previous block.

Since 10 minutes is normal time 600 to 20 = 30 to 1
30 x 43kb = about 1.3 mb

Since 1 mb is top size and 1/30 of it is 33.3kb.

So a 20 second block should be 33.3kb.

So Kano had a large block  with 43 kb once time is factored in

Of course, and if any block will be found in 5 min after the previous one, it would be at .65 MB? It can't be true.

I gave a simple version. Since actual transactions can be slower or faster then 1mb/600 sec.

I just did an average. It is more complicated .

But I could explain it better in a pm if you like.

Short answer is max transactions cap around 700000 per day

Actual trans actions are around 280000 per day.

Smallest transaction size is 225 need to check that
.

Also average rate can speed up or down.

Let me leave this iPad

Strike all of the above....

think of a block  like a subway train.

so  a train comes late   more people on the platform  (waiting transactions)     the train fills up.  lot more transactions.

so a new train comes early platform has not had a chance to fill up less transactions.

other factors are it is rush hour and the platform fills faster.  this can do a few things in the bitcoinworld.  you may need a big fee or have to wait for the next few trains.

another factor  big transaction vs little transaction.  or 600 pound men vs 70 pound girls.

suppose a lot of girl scouts get on a platform  that would be a small size transaction

this is  a girl scout size

but if the platform is full of and over eaters that tried out for

http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/my-600-lb-life/

this is a giant 600 pound man  transaction.

That all makes sense except I thought there is pretty much always a backlog of transactions?
As I'm writing this there are 3000+ unconfirmed transactions totaling well over 3mb.
That is enough for more than 3 blocks sitting there.

So unless the several blocks before that one came really fast too, there should have been enough transaction to fill the block.

Maybe I'm missing something.  Undecided

Kano, would you tell us, why do this block has so few thx? 43.5 kB only.
As Phil said above regarding short block change times.
i.e. less new transactions available only 12 seconds after the previous network block used some/most/all of the available transactions up.
This one was actually only 12 seconds.
Code:
[2016-11-12 08:45:04.333] Block hash changed to 0000000000000000016fe906f4a3f77e97ecf986d2316c53c647fbddde654b8c
[2016-11-12 08:45:16.188] BLOCK ACCEPTED!

However, as I have said a few times before Smiley, since it was the first work from the pool after the block change, there are also no free transactions in it so it is usually smaller in that case.
This wont be the case once I update the bitcoinds within the next week though, since -ck has made it faster again.
