SG node will be getting a RAM upgrade within the next hour.

I've redirected SG to JP since that's the closest, so if you connect between now and when the upgrade is finished, you'll end up on JP.

We'll also send a reconnect to everyone on SG to JP just before it's shutdown for the upgrade.

Upgrade should only take a few minutes, then everything will be switched back.

I'll post again once it's all done.

CPU? Who does SHA256 mining on a CPU? even a super duper CPU would likely not even match a GPU what more an ASIC based SHA256 miner.

This maybe a dumb question but I would like to understand, how would CPU mining be of any impact to PPLNS pool?

A singe CPU miner uses the same outgoing resources as a single 1PH proxy ... or any other smaller or larger single connection to the pool.
The only difference is the incoming shares.

Normally all connections to the pool return around 18 shares a minute.
A low hashing (less than about 55GHs) connection will return less.
But the point being that it requires the same outgoing resources as any other connection on the pool.
Thus it is a complete waste.

The twit over at the tiny eligius pool pointed out exactly why this is an issue when he was bragging here.
They allow botnets. They have something like 250,000 connections to their pool. So their pool has to handle sending out work to 250,000 miners every time they change work. More than 200,000 of those would be from botnets.

Here we change work every 30 seconds so that we are adding in new transactions soon after they are available.
You can see on the web page how many connections we have for over 40PH ... a bit over 9000 - sometimes up to 10,000.
Not 200,000 or 100,000 or even 50,000. Usually under 10,000

A couple of times I've had people come to IRC and say they have bot nets, one even provided an image showing he had 143,000 bots.
I told them they weren't wanted, and kicked them out of the channel and banned them

I guess that should make clear what I think of CPU mining (or GPU mining)

Aha I see. Great explanation - now it's clear.

We don't want anything to make the pool less efficient so all the bots and non-ASICS should not be allowed in Kano pool.

The --compac-freq option in Database's command line indicates that he's mining with the Sidehack Compac stick. He's not CPU mining, although clearly a Compac's single ASIC is not capable of very much hash.

He'd probably be better off solo mining with his stick, which is what I do with mine.

But I think I've seen other people posting on this thread that they point their sticks here, even though they probably only accumulate dust (especially now after the halving). In order to be fair to everyone, is there a posted minimum hash rate that will be accepted by the pool?

Just got up...I'd seen the original post before I crashed, got sort of a kick out of it. Clearly doesn't have a clue, and IMHO is focused on mining for not so good reasons. When I first got into btc years ago, I of course cpu mined, then gpu. It just doesn't make sense anymore either in terms of what it does to a decently managed pool, or to your electric bill (I've got a Radeon card that will do 800MH, but it draws 400W...no longer reasonable at all...it's sitting on a shelf).

EDIT: Well...it's sitting on the shelf until I can find a workable driver for 16.04LTS, and then it'll go into Caprica (my workstation) to assuage my feelings of inadequacy whilst running fractals just for kicks...

I wonder if it would be worth reviving my "USB mining farm" for a whopping 10GH.    Yes, I know the electricity cost would far exceed any revenue, but there was something comforting about those flickering green lights.

OT, but you gotta love those little green lights! I resurrected mine a couple months ago just for fun at a whopping 5ghs. Pointed them to the solopool to lotto mine. So far my best share was 225735042

I was amazed too! I wish I would have gotten one that good back when these were new. It would have been more than good enough for a block. I almost shut them off, thinking that was probably the best they would ever produce. But hey, where's the fun in that gear sitting in a closet! Plus, it's not like it really costs much to run. I spend more when I buy gas for the week, than these are gonna cost to run for a year.

I just noticed that my last payout for account "traxor" was for block 420509 found on 7/13 and paid on 7/14...

However all of my payouts for account "Mythicoin" (Machines at my sister's house) have been paid as recently as the ones paid today...

Anyone else with this problem?

I checked my account -- and no one hacked it and changed my wallet address.

I'm NOT claiming that it is Moe -- because I don't know -- it might be the same guy that stole coins from him -- I'm just saying it was around the same time frame...

lol my man I'm not stealing. I'm sure if you ask kano its just a simple glitch on his end.
with regards to me "claiming to steal bitcoins". the address it got stolen from was my main payout address on kano thus it was not a claim but a fact.

I have no need to steal from others however i will take a look and check to see if i received all necessary payments from the pool.
That wallet i asked people to send to was basically like 0.0001 and only needed one person as i was having issues signing a transaction.
however if you take a look at that account you will see that i figured it out and sent it with a message.
