So, the next day that Kano.is pool finds 6 blocks (and 2 of them are found with S9s), does that mean that the "nefarious" miners failed to do their job? Or their miners are off the pool... I don't care what people quote in regards to 'luck' and statistics. It's simple to notice when you have normal to good luck for very long time, then when large PH accounts via rentals arrive, the luck goes to hell. They go away and we're back to normal to good luck again. It's been repeated numerous times since we've been over 25PH. Heck we had IMO better and more stable expected daily blocks at that level than since it's been over. In a way I'd rather we've be back at that hash rate. I'm still riding this bad luck as we're at 4-5blocks behind since the last 2 high-block days from the 16th, but not sure how long I can stay optimistic. Yes and if you were block withholding you wouldnt do it straight to the pool. You would hide it from them by going thru nicehash.. And also you would not exp the bad luck as nicehash pays per share.. OUCH maybe a temp ban of all rentals.. I mean they can use other sites to rent against. Most that rent here are only gambling by trying their luck at making back more then spent on rental. SOO to eliminate that possiblity just get rid of it.. then the block WH would have to point straight to pool .> Which would then be obvious as kano should be keeping close eye on accounts about right now Best regards d57heinz EDIT i would be real curious if ck has any stats on his pool.. esp the bdr or luck of his pool That pool is mostly rentals thrown at it.. be an interesting stat im sure

Well, we just got a BLOCK! Not a pretty color, but a block none the less. Man, our luck % from 5 blocks through 100 sure has taken a hit!

I am not sure if I am running plainly ignorant here...
I thought someone with modest networking knowledge can monitor traffic with the miner on their router. The things I don't know about is for mining software (i.e. cgminer) at a minimum level how many servers does it require to interact with?
For example, if my miner is mining at kano.is, is kano pool's ip the only destination i should expect to see? I may be oversimplifying the case because miner has 3 pools for backup so it should periodically test 3 connections.
If someone can shed some lights on this then maybe i can start spying my S9 a bit, if it would even help sway away the concerns that S9's are evil.

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer. Always be on the look out, because you never know when you'll be stalked by hit-men that eat nothing but cream cheese....

would be interesting to see if there is some correlation between renting and bad luck here. So far, no hard evidence; besides, many here apparently dabble with renting to top off their hashing (not me).

With an average of ~4 blocks per day (over the last 180 days), how come folks look for external reasons for 2 block days but call the 6 block days "good luck" and go on about their merry way?
Haha! Everybody loves the 6 block days but the 2 block days brings out the tin foil hat folks! *image removed* well in this domain(cryptoland) its not safe whatsoever to just assume all is ok. Its great to always be on your toes.. It must be nice that you have no concerns but those that question arent necessarily trolls wearing tinfoil hats. Not intelligent of you to stereotype in this way. To think for yourself is to question authority. Looking at organofcorti and the long term stats it seems china is slowing creeping on top.. Looks like that 80% mining share is starting to pay off.. Also with the pools shrinking in size it wouldn't take much hash and cost to pull a with holding attack on the few remaining public pools.> The network hashrate did just drop about 6 % network wide.. maybe that isnt all just block halving and power bills coming. Could be a select few attacking the pools.. slush just lost 6 ph/s and look at their long term stats on pool(lets see if they start hitting some blocks now that its gone.... I think there is more to this. and is something that shouldnt be so easily thrown into your barrel of tin hat theories.. Most of those are what leads to truth anyway. I welcome them personally.. All theories and thoughts should be welcome as you never know which one will spark an idea or could lead to breakthru. As bitcoin becomes more scarce id imagine this will only lead to more attacks.. Could be soon we all have to look at this long term and start going solo.. May be forced to solo nodes mining. I have no doubt kano will figure this out if there is a problem or not.> This is the risk we must also factor in roi. The possibilty the pool is attacked.. This really is turning into a every man for themselves scenario. I dont like it one bit. When money gets involved best judgement is thrown into the wind it seems. I will just set it and forget it for a while. I was taking a gamble by renting .. i knew the risk. Good luck all and may we see greener pastures soon:) Best Regards d57heinz My apologies for the appearance of stereotyping...that was not my intention at all. I have a lot of respect for all of the miners here on Kano. Thanks for showing me how my poking fun could have offended folks.

Here come my thunderstorms - a few hours late - but raging. Looks like they're gonna be here off and on all night. I guess my miners have the night off. (Electric meter smiles happily!) Lets find some BLOCKSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Wowzers...I go away for a bit and come back to some rather interesting conversation. I think I'm gonna pretty much abstain on such a subject, given my retired profession. Hope the weather doesn't smash ya, wm. Mine on...

I'll be do doing a ckpool restart in about an hour at 02:30 UTC
This will just be a reconnect in everyone's miners. Rentals may or may not survive depending on how they deal with a reconnect. (as per my usual comment about this: it's a standard part of stratum in miners to reconnect)
