... I have mine slightly OC'd with static fans and if I went with the firmware upgrade I would lose the ability to do either of those things.
Scroll back a bit and I posted the link for the frequency page (will not solve your micromanaging issues for the fans, but you can set freq how ever high/low you want).

I did see that actually but does it work? I experimented with modifying the bmminer.conf file to try and get static fan speeds and in the newer firmware that file seems to be ignored for fan speeds, so if that web page is making modifications to the bmminer.conf file for freq control that may get ignored also.

I have 2 s9 batch 1 mining here on kano from jun 19 with v1 firmware. one of them find a block already here on kano on Oct 4th During the summer added 2 more s9 batch 1 to my kano mining farm , they still hunting for a block One of my another S9 batch 1 version 1 on another pool also find a block already in November . So i have 5 s9 batch 1 with v1 firmware , this 5 s9 find 2 block in the past 6 months . with 70 TH/s hashing speed , the estimated time to solo mining 1 block is around 220 days or 7.4 months with today difficulty.

In System > Overview you have a field that says: "BMminer Version" and it will either be 1.0.0 or 2.0.0. It's that same screen where you see that "failed to connect" error message early in the boot process.
I am running the Nov 29th firmware (which is the last one they released) on my newer S9 and it doesn't cycle the fan speeds up and down, it stays pretty steady (without letting it hit 100 degrees which is also good). But unfortunately there is no manual control.
I am contemplating putting the V1 S9's on antpool rather than upgrade them. I have never mined there before but maybe it would be the most karmically just solution.
I have mine slightly OC'd with static fans and if I went with the firmware upgrade I would lose the ability to do either of those things.
Thanks for the directions. It seems im running v1. But apart from one board which shows 1000hw errors, the other two show 200, 300errors respectively, its not bad. Obviously haven't found a block and most likely never will with it running at 4.3Th but the HW Error rate is currently at 0.0008%. Bestshare reported as 2,479,422,642 which I don't think is bad considering its only been running for just over 2 days since the last time it was cleaned out.

Block by agentcash !
Good job agentcash with your 4th Kano block! (an S9?) This is our 1st of the new day! S9v2 Yep the S9v1 sux something terrible - the stats are still getting worse. ANYONE using the v1 firmware - PLEASE update to v2. It's got to conspiracy theory levels how bad the luck is with S9v1 firmware. The last luck report I ran: S9v1: Block found: 79 Expected: 105.15 CDF[Erl]: 0.996590 Yeah that's basically saying that it's averaging 75% luck for 79 blocks ... that's like really BAD luck ... or BAD code. Whew, felt like I was long overdue for one. Thanks guys. Best Share on that miner: 480,759,511,561 I'll work on upgrading any v1's later today.

Be patient!!! the route i have gone with is i first load the normal update, it took more than usual to come back so i loaded the upgrade fix and then the regular update for v2 takes about 15-20 minutes to come back to life. i upgraded two for now will run for about 24 hours and if all is good i will load my other 3... good luck

I just upgraded my S9 from bmminer 1.0 to cgminer 4.9.2 My error rate is MUCH lower. One downside is now I can not see chip temperatures.

How did you do this? Do you know if the fan speed is being regulated by chip temps? If not, you may have created a setup for board failure. JFB

Well considering that one was made by a scammer who's code includes going to his site ... I'll say now - discuss it elsewhere.

I have no idea - and I wont promote software by scammers. He had a (very short) run of good luck here on the pool long ago and then followed that up with fake posts about how he had changed cgminer to make it something like 14% faster/luckier. His all time stats before I locked his account (long ago): 8 Blocks - 9.77543827 BDR - yep less than expected No big deal - but there was no: oh wow my miners are luckier coz I did magical fourier hacking to cgminer to make it hash faster - everyone use my faster cgminer that you have to pay me to use ... Yep that's a scam.

Upgraded my 2 S9s to v2. Was a little harrowing to watch the kernel log and try to figure out what was going on. Seemed to take forever with the first one. Second one went much faster and the amazing thing was it gained about 1TH. It had been showing a random smattering of bad asics under the old firmware and they all look good with the new. I went from about 10.8TH/s to 11.8TH/s so I am impressed.
Now we need to given some time and make sure it is stable.
Note: These were both older, non-autotune batches.

Just did mine ... Suck! The frequency can only be change once. Has anyone been successful changing the FREQ with batch file ? Example pscp.exe -scp \cgminer.conf root@192.168.1.17:/config/cgminer.conf

You opinion of "overheated" and the manufacture's seem to be 2 different things. ...The frequency can only be change once...
Does no one ever read more than 2 posts back in this thread You can change it every 15-25 minutes for as long as you like (or until you brick it from changing it 2,000,000,000,000 times)

Example pscp.exe -scp \cgminer.conf root@192.168.1.17:/config/cgminer.conf I haven't tried that with the new firmware but I used to do that with the old firmware for summertime heat. The method ComputerGenie is referring to which he posted earlier is to use the web page on the miner: http://192.168.1.247/cgi-bin/minerAdvanced.cgi which still exists even though they removed the link to it. Let me know if that actually works on an older miner that was upgraded to the newer firmware. EDIT: The script I was using to change freq was developed with the help of this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=956098.msg10462772#msg10462772
