if this coin is such a scam, why are so many people buying it still?

http://youarenotsosmart.com/2011/03/25/the-sunk-cost-fallacy/

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/auroracoin/

^ That coin there in march reached a $500 million  market cap. Trading volume far more than BitBay. Current market cap today less than $60k
That's by no means the only coin with so many buys and good volume that faded to nothing, there are dozens like it.

Asking "If X was a scam why would Y amount of people buy it?"  is terrible logic to be basing investment decisions on; historically wisdom of the crowds doesn't seem to apply to bitcointalk alt section

Even not counting the dozens of alt-scams over a million BTC easily has been hacked or stolen in the past few years, All of which a bunch of people decided at one time were great investments, and decided hand their private keys over to instead of keeping in their wallets, There are plenty not listed, but  a subset of those documented scams, hacks and thefts you can find here- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=576337

I got flu sick 2 days ago and came back to catch up. Only took 10 hours of reading.

Its been said before but.. DAMN...

So glad that "libeay32.dll" didn't turn out to be a big fiasco. </sarcasm>

Watching and waiting.  and still believing in David - he's the reason most of us probably invested. And belief in a free marketplace.

Oh, and can someone please re-fill the popcorn cart..

It's really sad what happened to this coin.
Greed is powerful over weak minds.
Karma will come around.

Gee thanks. What we really need is you telling everybody they'll get karma and idiots in this thread are going to expect free karma coin.

Sad that I have to post this HERE... of all places... but it got deleted from the other thread:

Uhh yeah, this still stinks.

I still am a huge bull on the success of a broad-spectrum decentralized marketplace as being the best application for crypto-currency in general.  But blind trust can only go so far - and that ship has sailed.  Wink  You say you'll buy back coins, you say you'll restore value - but if there's one thing that's clear from the logs that just David posted (don't really trust anything from Bob under any circumstances)... it's that you (the current team) weren't willing to risk anything yourselves from the beginning.  You hedged your bets (and then some actually)... at the expense of the investors themselves.

To put any more faith in the team - regardless of their optimism and apparent goodwill, should require (at a minimum):

100% transparency for all current parties
All held BTC, all held BAY, and all distributed BAY/BTC. We know Bob & co walked with ~691BTC, and dumped some/all of their BAY - but what about Lin/Steven/David?  Distribution is critical, and the numbers are very fishy, but we have no proof that Lin isn't still involved, and (to me at least) if he 'cooked the books' for the ICO, upfront... that's every bit as bad if not worse than what Bob & Co. did.  It's certainly worse than what David and Steven did - and I'm far from absolving them of blame (but they do seem to be more on the side of 'stupid' rather than 'crooked' in all this).

100% transparency of communication
The cat's already out of the bag... so let's have the un-edited logs from all parties in one pastebin.  Since at least Steven and David are still involved (and I presume Lin is as well)... should be simple enough to have 2/3 party confirmation on their validity.  Not that I think it will help the price any... but better to go to 1 sat now - and get all the time-bombs out at once - than get further down this rabbit-hole only to find another 3 waiting to trash everything again!  (Naturally the timeline for this is NOW... if it can't be done in the next hour, then it's likely to be every bit as doctored as Bob's are.

Proof of backing - preferably 3rd party escrow/trust
Since the value of the coins themselves is currently garbage, and a big chuck of the BTC was either stolen/extorted (call it whatever you want, it's gone) - how much of the funds remain, and under what circumstances can they be used?  The investors' BTC was exchanged for 'hope-tokens' on the belief that our BTC was being used to fund development of the coin, establish hedging, marketing costs, and later on perhaps pegging.  So where are you getting the requisite funds to do that now?!?  I'm sure I speak for most (even those rabidly supportive still) when I say that it would probably not be the best thing to still have you guys in charge of the 'money side' of this operation... I could see a homeless man convincing you he was the CEO of Citibank at this point possibly.  Cheesy

There's a hundred more likely questions - and to be honest, I'm out and not likely to be investing so much as a dime in this again - even after the markets are here.  Not to say I won't use those markets if the actually do occur - but I'm definitely not holding my breath or doubling down on a team that made this many critical mistakes in judgement before even getting to the starting line.

Are Bobsurplus/Gekko & Co. a bunch of criminals?  Certainly.  Is Lin guilty of fraud, money laundering, and theft if he used so much as a single 'phantom-satoshi' let alone multiple BTC to falsify volume/sales and accumulate free BAY? Completely.  However, there is such a thing as guilt by association - and even if there was absolutely nothing else criminal on the David/Steven side... that's enough for me to write off my losses and walk.

Sad day guys... in reality the damage you all have helped perpetrate against cryptocurrency in general by your actions, is more disgusting than the petty crimes involved in this directly.   Cry

You cannot be this stupid, really, can you?

Steven engineered the whole thing. Along with Lin, in on the "deal" from the get go. Steven (and Lin) then contacted Bob and he came on board. Subsequently, Steven got Zimbeck, for shit load of money and Zimbeck found out about Bob/Gekko involvement about two minutes after he got his first money (make a note of this, ok? 350 BTC -he has admitted only to 191...- plus 100 million BAYs). When he found out Bob was involved, not only he enthusiastically approved of the pump but was as lured and supportive as anyone in the group --more so in fact, read the fucking logs-.

So it is fully clear to everyone (since you cannot be reached): There are no innocents here. Crooks all. The worst imaginable kind of crooks if you have to make distinctions. From Steven the mobster, to Lin the crook, to Zimbeck the Turd and of course including Bob and Gekko, the worst pair of lowlives on the face of the earth. They all belong in jail, but with the key thrown out to the fucking deep sea. Get it now?

And make no mistake about it: BAY, under whatever denomination, Halo and anything that anyone of these crooks will ever touch, is doomed. You, the blind, greedy, hypocrites, equally low lives as the aforementioned -sans the opportunity to steal-, will not salvage a single penny here. Or anywhere you choose to follow these crooks individually, on pairs or as a group.

This shit is done, stick a fork in it. And I am not just referring to BAY.

PS this was directed to digicidal in particular, but obviously to a much wider group too.

I agree with you... I crafted that post to be intentionally 'softer' on the David/Steven side to see if it would actually remain in the new, new, new Bitbay thread.  It lasted less than 2 minutes actually - and it's in your thread with a 'special gift to you'.  Tongue  (Also... fuck off and die, LOL)  Grin

I create ICO

I buy my own coins - 60% of it

I pump after ICO

I use woolong technique and advertise the shit out of it

I slowly dump once price has reached 500-1000%

I take my profit and walk away leaving coin to survive on its own

This has been the new fashion to scam people and I  can tell you this NEVER end well for everyone who are running it. One or two people get the profit while rest of them are left screaming. Either way I don't know who is right and who is wrong here and nor do I care anymore as long as project is moving forward from here.

Can it be fixed? Sure it can. Are they doing anything to fix it? I have no fcking way to find out or prove it so I'll just sit back and relax and see what comes next. If my 20 BTC turns into .0001. Let it be. I'm in no way exiting the market after taking 90% loss. BTW this is my last investment in crypto and I'm done with it. Stocks were unregulatd at one time and same kind of shit were being pulled on daily basis. Only issue is that if people look at crypto as stocks and quick rich schemes then that's all it'll ever become and more importantly it'll be dead in few years once people have had enough of it and scammers will have no way to milk money out of it.

In last 2 months I've found out about 8 fcking scams in crypto. That's just beyond pathetic and anyone who thinks that we'll ever become NEXT NEW TECHNOLOGY is just delusional.

If you ever want to make money in crypto CREATE YOUR OWN COIN. Buy 60% of ICO and then dump it on everyones head. I cannot get myself to do it because I have conscience and it never feel right to scam people but that's the only way to become RICH overnight. There is no other way you can do it. period.

This is a badly tainted scandal. Do you really think it can be recovered and brought around to be an honest coin?

Yes. It's tainted, it's fcked up & it's rotting BUT it's not something that can't be fixed. If it gets fixed from here..one year from now people won't even remember what happened today.

Will it be fixed? I have no fcking way to tell unless I'm one of the guy who started it.

[2014-11-15 7:51:14 AM] Steven Dai: put 1283BTC into this  and hold 0.442 billion Bitbay
[2014-11-15 7:52:38 AM] Steven Dai: so we buy 1283BTC+500BTC=1783BTC Bay..we get about 2765BTC-1783BTC=982BTC.
[2014-11-15 7:53:24 AM] Gekko: (handshake)
[2014-11-15 7:53:47 AM] Steven Dai: me and lin advance 25BTC to David.  so we get 982-25=957BTC for us
[2014-11-15 7:53:55 AM] linhan.ee: well done
[2014-11-15 7:54:04 AM] Gekko: good work guys

[2014-11-15 7:58:34 AM] Gekko: of course
[2014-11-15 7:59:38 AM] Gekko: now when market opens we will push the price to at least a triple floor.
[2014-11-15 7:59:41 AM] Steven Dai: so finally the number is: 171BTC+316BTC values BitBay  and  100BTC+200BTC values DEV funds control by our five

[2014-11-15 8:34:51 AM] Steven Dai: ok nice
[2014-11-15 8:37:10 AM] Gekko: So when Lin is ready, have him post the address to David.
[2014-11-15 8:37:15 AM] Gekko: Then everything is 100%
[2014-11-15 8:38:32 AM] Steven Dai: you mean the Total Bitcoin address?
[2014-11-15 8:38:48 AM] Gekko: I mean, the exchange bitbay address

[2014-11-15 8:39:03 AM] Steven Dai: oh i see
[2014-11-15 8:39:13 AM] Steven Dai: just the BitBay address right?
[2014-11-15 8:39:15 AM] Gekko: David has all the BitBay, Lin has the exchange wallet. We just need the coins in the exchange wallet
[2014-11-15 8:39:18 AM] Gekko: yes
[2014-11-15 8:39:24 AM] Steven Dai: oh i see

[2014-11-15 8:39:40 AM] Steven Dai: lin is offline now
[2014-11-15 8:39:49 AM] Steven Dai: i think he will be back soon
[2014-11-15 8:40:02 AM] Gekko: Can you call him? It's important that the coins are ready before 6am our time
[2014-11-15 8:40:18 AM] Steven Dai: so people can withdrawal coin是?
[2014-11-15 8:40:20 AM] Steven Dai: coins?
[2014-11-15 8:42:18 AM] Gekko: yes indeed
[2014-11-15 8:45:17 AM] Gekko: getting coins out of the exchange helps against dumping and also for POS in peoples wallets
[2014-11-15 8:45:29 AM] Gekko: POS is what maintains the blockchain
[2014-11-15 8:45:54 AM] Steven Dai: yes
[2014-11-15 8:49:21 AM] David Zimbeck: when lin gives me an address i will send

[2014-11-15 9:07:00 AM] Steven Dai: hi gekko
[2014-11-15 9:07:15 AM] Steven Dai: do you have a plan when market open?
[2014-11-15 9:07:22 AM] Steven Dai: we need to fake the volume on bter
[2014-11-15 9:07:28 AM] Steven Dai: and also later on Bittrex
[2014-11-15 9:07:40 AM] Steven Dai: will we release the source code later?
[2014-11-15 9:07:47 AM] Gekko: I have a good bot for Bittrex, and I can take care of that market
[2014-11-15 9:07:53 AM] Gekko: but I don't have a bot for Bter
[2014-11-15 9:08:14 AM] Gekko: we can release the core wallet source sure. I will check with Flubber when the time for that is right
[2014-11-15 9:08:54 AM] Steven Dai: yes..
[2014-11-15 9:09:10 AM] Steven Dai: do we have a plan when market open GMT 22:00?
[2014-11-15 9:09:36 AM] Gekko: yes, we will build solid support
[2014-11-15 9:09:44 AM] Gekko: we hold a major % in the currency
[2014-11-15 9:09:50 AM] Gekko: we will take steps to push the price up
[2014-11-15 9:10:08 AM] Gekko: We won't "pump" it too crazy high. We just want to put it at a good price that it deserves
[2014-11-15 9:10:10 AM] Steven Dai: how many we control this?
[2014-11-15 9:10:27 AM] Gekko: well im not the market mover, that's bob
[2014-11-15 9:10:35 AM] Steven Dai: yes..if we ever can push this over 400 satoshi..
[2014-11-15 9:10:38 AM] Gekko: but, I know we will work together to push it good
[2014-11-15 9:10:41 AM] Steven Dai: then that will helps
[2014-11-15 9:10:46 AM] Gekko: I was thinking 300 - 400
[2014-11-15 9:10:58 AM] Gekko: then 400 - 500
[2014-11-15 9:11:05 AM] Gekko: and have a good floor at 400 at least
[2014-11-15 9:11:20 AM] Gekko: possibly higher if the market works with us
[2014-11-15 9:11:30 AM] Gekko: we need to release technology to really push it
[2014-11-15 9:11:53 AM] Gekko: but we can do some good price pushing
[2014-11-15 9:12:32 AM] Steven Dai: nice
[2014-11-15 9:14:02 AM] Steven Dai: we do not want people complain the price..so better we do not broke ico price
[2014-11-15 9:15:36 AM] David Zimbeck: yeah obviousl
[2014-11-15 9:15:40 AM] David Zimbeck: but Steven
[2014-11-15 9:15:45 AM] David Zimbeck: we can break it too
[2014-11-15 9:15:56 AM] David Zimbeck: because soon we will have the peg and the price will move
[2014-11-15 9:16:07 AM] David Zimbeck: but obviously it is better we never break Smiley
[2014-11-15 9:16:19 AM] David Zimbeck: because we dont want to be less popular
[2014-11-15 9:17:46 AM] Gekko: this is a great coin sir, and very cheap
[2014-11-15 9:18:11 AM] Steven Dai: yes just tell people we will rank top 10
[2014-11-15 9:18:12 AM] Steven Dai: lol
[2014-11-15 9:18:15 AM] Gekko: price deserves to rise. but without a cool release soon it may want to slowly move back down
[2014-11-15 9:18:24 AM] Steven Dai: i see
[2014-11-15 9:18:24 AM] Gekko: yes, and we will
[2014-11-15 9:18:46 AM] Steven Dai: will ask coinmarketcap add us when wallet and trading opens
[2014-11-15 9:18:59 AM] Steven Dai: so people will see us rank top 20 first
[2014-11-15 9:19:03 AM] Steven Dai: then top10
[2014-11-15 9:19:10 AM] Gekko: yes yes
[2014-11-15 9:19:16 AM] Steven Dai: then top5//

[2014-11-15 9:19:52 AM] Steven Dai: that will be huge
[2014-11-15 9:21:18 AM] Gekko: how much total % we have now?
[2014-11-15 9:24:09 AM] Steven Dai: 1283BTC by myself and 500BTC by bob...i hold 0.44billion and i think that group hold about 0.19 billion..so we control about 0.63 billion together

had a few days away... back to check on my new fav coin...

bitbay another great investment i made in the last weeks along with blocknet and scooping up some cheap xc which just went south even more.

to recap...

so bter is run by a scammer?
dz - is ok with it being a semi pump and dump scam? so long as he is not accountable being just the coder... whilst taking some nice profits mostly built upon the strength of him being public and coding halo? although would like to see some development take place eventually if possible.

the other people in the team are just outright thieves?

put an order in at 1 sat, need to cost average down a little i guess.

Not at all, i wasnt really sure what my options were once the project had already started. So, i had no choice but to advance. But when they started to not pay for a team and they sat on their asses with the funds, then yeah of course.

So do you think they tried to find me devs? I think not.

ok, so the BTC from Bob and Gekko is gone, that much is clear.  But there is still the BTC held by you, Steven, and Lin.  That is at least 2000 BTC and still more then enough to find and pay more devs.

And there you have the real truth. That these chinese mobsters and David are sitting on a shit ton of free coins but david claims he has been innocently asking for dev money for weeks. Now, what doesn't make sense about that situation, and his claims? and what makes you think any of these selfish pigs is going to uses any money going forward on this, if they have not so far?

uhhh because i can prove them? lol... do you really want to turn bitcointalk into 4chan? talking in bitcoin talk is like bathing in the sewers now.

Annnnnd... i never sold my Bitbay(that has already been shown). There was no way i was going to fund it with the bitbay and there is no way on earth im going to do that now.

By the way, thats a Bitmessage issue. It had nothing to do with Halo at all.

EDIT:
More specifically its an openssl thing. I think its overkill to make people download openssl in the installer and im understaffed so that is not a high priority issue since it effects less than 1% of the systems.

Just chiming in to say if my posts earlier were acknowledged you would have avoided this obvious scam. It comes down to the same thing over and over, that "developers" advertise wallet features without doing nothing to the protocol. We wrote about it here: https://blackwavelabs.com

If everyone starts understanding the distinctions it will be hard to keep pulling this scam over and over again.

Having Zimbeck and Bter attached to the deal would be just as valid as having Blackwavelabs attached to it. Equal trust. In hindsight I'll gladly admit I was wrong and naive. But up front the naysayers were on equal footing with the yaysayers.

And now the whole cat has been let out of the bag I really can't blame the extreme bulls for holding on and waiting for better days. That's still a possibility. It's just that those funds would've really, really helped in making that a reality faster.

So ... how much of the 0.19 bill that Bob controls has been dumped anyway ?

At a guess almost all of it since it started soon after the markets opened.  The rest (if any) is probably just waiting for the price to get propped up a little... then down again. Sad
