Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

It is manipulation or incompetent bugs in their system. I question if ANY of them at Gox even know this is happening right now or if they are all just sleeping while their 24/7 exchange goes to hell.

ONE person sold 2000k form 115 down to 110. Then magically 10 minutes of lag had appeared within 5 minutes. It never stopped rising from there despite next to no real activity for most of that rise. The trading that has been happening is pretty typical and usually not laggy.

They need to find out who dumped this 2000 BTC causing the price to drop from 150 to 110,it's obvious it was done by the person doing the DDOS.

They should freeze the account and investigate thoroughly.

How is it holding so well? Also is bitcoinity updating for anyone?
Because people know the current price isn't too unreasonable, its above the long term trendline but not by a huge amount. At 266 it was HUGE, and people were ready to panic/sell for profit, or because they bought high. Right now things are different.

Whoever gave them the permits in Japan should investigate.

If the big fish are smart they now slowly place tiny walls at 100 and let the remaining bulls gobble it up.

There's a reasonable explanation for this lag, MtGox have ordered their new servers from the folks at butterfly labs, there is a slight delay now, but the units should be shipping soonTM. Have no fear.

edit: anyway, why worry? satoshi has a plan for all of us ... lol

Placing an order : Trade engine cooldown (lag too high), order placing suspended until 2013-04-13 20:40:00 UTC

Cooldown is now the Trendy word at gox

How Ripple Rips you: "The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"

I'm okay with this! It is the only reasonable thing to do at the moment as long as it is temporary and not 12 hours long. Until they fix their system, what else can they do?

Good point. Some time ago there was a flash crash on Wall Street where prices jumped 20% or something several times during 45 minutes ( that was before the circuit breaker was installed). Investigation shoved that certain abnormal trading bot behaviour had caused the trading to glitch. From the trading log files, the stock selloff that started chaos was identified, but the trader was not. Wall Street refused to disclose the identity of the account. It was clearly an order spam attack run by some trading bots.

The US Dollar was not at risk of losing it's trust because of it. But But Bitcoin is. Guess what CNBC's Bitcoin story tomorrow will be?
