1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Human minable coin on: May 18, 2016, 01:50:30 AM
Human mining is an interesting concept. Where are wallet/miner/exchange/etc. etc. links? There isn't anything in the OP outside of coin specifications? Hard to get on board with so little organization or pazazz.

All here: facilecoin.org

Thank you!!

I can't seem to find any link to an exchange. Does this mean facilecoin is not yet being traded?
1042  Economy / Economics / Re: How many % of your portfolio is in bitcoin ? on: May 18, 2016, 01:49:06 AM
I'm just a few years behind you, OP- heading into college this fall.

Looking at solely currency, I've got about $1,300 give or take in fiat, .3 BTC in my wallet, another .2~ tied up in ICOs, and around .1-.2 in miscellaneous altcoins. Would love to have more of my (small) networth in crypto, but my general guidelines are to keep real world and virtual separated. When I work online I get paid in cryptos, and any money irl comes in fiat.
1043  Economy / Economics / Re: Factors That Make One Cryptocurrency Worth More Than Another on: May 18, 2016, 01:45:56 AM
Honestly, the only major factors that will make/break a coin is real world usage and distribution. Any coin that is distributed fairly and has actual uses will see a solid foundation and an actual marketcap. Of course, there are many coins that lack this but still hold relative value due to community support and speculative appreciation (looking at the memecoins right now). However, the ones that don't have any real use outside of trading rarely take off and sustain value. They either never pick up steam or they are a flavor of the month coin and fall out of favor pretty quickly.
1044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Happened to Augur? on: May 18, 2016, 01:43:11 AM
It is live and functioning on the test net. They are mostly polishing and getting better UI in place in prep for a launch later this year.

Honestly, a lot of these customer facing DApps need the massive Mist browser update coming in Metropolis to be meaningful.

Sorry- I'm not the most technical person around these parts. I think I understand what you are saying, but I'm not exactly sure. To clarify in laymen's terms: it's currently being tested and should be released later this year, but the Reputation tokens (I think that's what they are called) and actual betting cannot currently be used/executed?

1046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ether on way to over 1Billion market cap again on: May 18, 2016, 01:36:12 AM
There is no way this will be sustained for more than a few days. Tons of Promising ICOs are taking place soon. LISK in a week of course, WAVES a little further down the road. A lot of the Ether traders who are just going for the profit margins are going to at least diversify into some of these new, similar coins.
1047  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on Steam on: May 18, 2016, 01:33:43 AM
Maybe one month ago. Steam accepted Bitcoin for payment..

Has it been a month already? I could have sworn it was only a week or two ago.

Either way, Steam now fully accepts Bitcoin. Bovada recently started accepting Bitcoin, too. Probably doesn't mean for those who aren't interested in online gambling, but for those who are, Bovada is huge. Largest poker site in US and third largest worldwide.
1048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What Happened to Augur? on: May 18, 2016, 01:27:34 AM
There was huge hype of Augur this past year (moreso on /r/bitcoin), but it's died down as of recently. Last I heard, it was supposed to be up and running right about now. Anyone know what the current state is? I was intrigued by the concept (but did not invest) and would like to gamble on it some day.

For those who don't know, Augur is essentially a decentralized prediction market.

I'm trying to create an account on steemit and seem to be unable to do so. Initially, I tried signing up through reddit, and it returned error: verified facebook account required. I then went back and signed up through my facebook account, and got the same error message. I assume this is something on your guys' end, but please let me know if there is a workaround so I can make an account, because I love the concept behind this project.
Yes, this was a bug on our end. It's fixed already, please try to create an account again, this is the link https://steemit.com/create_account
Don't hesitate to send me PM if something doesn't work.

Cool. Just got an account set up and made. How exactly do I navigate the site? Having trouble finding some more niche or regular bloggers to follow or whatnot. The frontpage is nice but would like some genuine blogging/conversation.

Good question. Maybe a page showing various leaderboards such as most upvoted posters, categories, etc. or something would be interesting. For now you just have to find them by finding an interesting post and then clicking on the poster's name.

I think that would be a really cool addition.

Last question: How do withdrawals work? Is that what the 'power down' option is for? I tried messing around with it and it returned an error. I don't plan on withdrawing but it's hard to trust the legitimacy of the operation without a viable way to withdraw my steem.

"Power down" converts your Steem Power to liquid Steem. It takes place over 104 weekly payments. However, if you got free Steem Power, you can't withdraw that until you reach 10x.

Withdraws work like any other web wallet, but you can only withdraw liquid Steam or Steem Sollars (the latter doesn't exist yet but will  be paid out starting July 4), not Steem Power. You could send it to your own wallet, an exchange, etc.

You can theoretically use use your password/private keys from the web site to do all this stuff via the CLI wallet and bypass the web site (you can even make blog posts from the CLI wallet, though it is somewhat painful; voting isn't too bad). I guess at some point there may be a GUI wallet, other web wallets, etc.

When you say '104 weekly payments' does that mean your Steem Power will take two years to fully withdraw? I have a hard time believing there is any practical reason to lock up earnings for such an insane amount of time...

1051  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ⋞ANN⋟⋞TRAP⋟ TRAPCOIN | Crypto Currency Backed By Minecraft Economy on: May 18, 2016, 12:53:17 AM
What kind of specifications are we going to be looking at for the Minecraft server? Towny, enhanced survival, hardcore anarchy, pure vanilla, etc.? If you're looking for the Minecraft server to be an integral part of the crypto, it is imperative that it is a server that would coincide with a real world economy well. i.e. a minigame hub or prison server wouldn't make much sense to base a crypto economy off of. Vanilla survival is fine but the game is easy enough to where you don't need to do much trading -> little to no velocity for coins held on the server.

The specs for the server are as follows. It will be a drug server where users gain currency from going out far from spawn and building drug farms. They will then be able to sell their crops to the server for in-game currency(TrapCoin). With their money they will be able to purchase MANY things from ranks, commands, ETC. The server allows full pvp and raiding, so I've added a plugin that gives you 5% of a players balance if you kill them. The economy will be 100% player run. NOTHING will be spawned from the server. I'm not even including a starter kit. Every player will start with nothing. There will only be player shops. No server shops will exist except for the ones at which you sell your drugs. Now that I'm on the topic of shops, players will be able to rent out shop space to open up their own shops. They will also be able to rent out plots for building. I'm also incorporating a casino as well as a lottery. I've added many things for users to spend their money on and I'll be adding more. I've been playing minecraft since I was 14, I'm 20 now, just about 21 now. I've seen MANY MANY servers in my time of playing and I know what makes and breaks an economy. The beauty of it all is on other servers, users can purchase donor ranks and commands through FIAT currency. This will not be the case with Trap Life. Everything will be purchasable with your in-game balance. Some of the stuff (the /fly command for example) I have priced very high hence giving players something to save for. The equivalent of $1 in-game will be .0001 TRAP. I know it's not very high but that's the point. With the current price of TRAP, a player could go onto yobit and purchase 100 Pounds easily and have $1,000,000 in-game. It gives the coin more value in the server than outside. The more TRAP that ends up in the server the higher the price will go outside the server. You have to remember, there's just over 2.4 million coins in circulation, making TRAP pretty rare in comparison to others that have over 100 million. I've also purchased a xenforo license, I'm really hoping to get a strong community going. Honestly I could keep going on about the project but you're just gonna have to wait and see. It's currently 2:30am where I live, when I'm not working/looking after my kid I'm working on the server. I'm getting a little stressed because I want to get this server out to the public. However, I can't release it until it's prefect, I just can't. In the next little bit, I will be looking for beta testers, so if you're interested, stay tuned. I hope I answered your question. Smiley

So there is a GARGANTUAN problem with a crypto economy on a drug server. The way that drug servers work is that people grow crops (drugs) that they sell back to spawn in order to rank up in the game. You said that the economy will be player to player, but a large, large majority of transactions will be the server selling Trapcoin (in game currency) to the players in exchange for these drugs. Where will this Trapcoin be coming from? If it is being generated at will, there will be a massive hyperinflation of the currency, because making money on a drug server becomes exponentially easier over time (the more time you put into the game, the more money you can earn and the more your profits are increasing).

Now, if the economy truly is player to player, and there is no server shop to buy/sell from, you run into the problem that players aren't going to exchange trapcoin with one another. Farming crops is insanely easy, nobody is going to purchase any drugs from one another when they can easily hoard them.

There are other issues with the set up (/fly on a pvp/anarchy server is insanely unbalanced) but the main problem is that I just don't see how you could make such an economy work. One way that COULD work would be for the server to have its own wallet, and every rank up or perk purchase sends all coins into that wallet. Server shop has fluid prices based off of the size of the wallet and prices will depreciate/appreciate as the server bankroll decreases/increases. However, people will be trying to hoard their crypto more than they will try to spend it, so it's a very real possibility that in such an economy, server shop prices would eventually depreciate to 0.

Let me end this by saying I, too, have been playing Minecraft for quite some times. I've been heavily involved in a multitude of servers, including playing an active role in one server from its inception, to its appreciation to the #1 most popular server (back in Beta 1.8 ) to its ultimate demise. I have also designed server economies. I love Minecraft, and what I love in particular is the economic aspect. I know exactly what does/doesn't work. If you need any advice or would like some help, feel free to let me know.

You need to make a mini-exchange for the server.
When people buy TRAP ingame, there must be a bot doing a buy on some exchange.
Player-player transactions dont need to involve the server at all.. Just to people exchanging adresses.

This would also drive the prices up, as its the opposite of dumping.
Shouldt be too hard to make a script doing exchange buys at order.

The problem isn't the method of exchange, the problem is the type of server that trapcoin is to be implemented on. As far as Minecraft servers go, an in game currency that represents some denomination of the crypto is an absolute must. Things happen fast in MC. It takes only a simple chat command to send any amount of money from one player to another.

The problem is that drug servers typically operate on command economies: players farm drugs and sell them to the server (which is typically an entity with infinite spending). Players accumulate money and then buy upgrades and rank ups from the server. This is fine for a server where the in game currency has no real life value. In this instance, however, it's hard for me to believe that OP could foster an environment that isn't unplayable or suicide for the crypto.
1052  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: losing 50 bitcoins gambling on: May 17, 2016, 10:28:31 PM
50 BTC is about the same as my college expenses for an entire year. I could not imagine putting a year of college on the line. Just a huge amount to risk. Obviously, there are people who are more affluent and can afford such bets. I, however, am not one such person.

Amazing how many people here think that one could never make a successful living off of gambling.

Lottery winners are worth millions.

There are many professional gamblers out there (most in the realm of poker and sports betting). Some are worth hundreds of millions.

Anyone who has invested in the stock market or a similar platform is essentially gambling.

Not sure if you want compare trading with gambling, but yes  - altcoin trading for "newbies" is like gambling - one is winning and is spreading this good news, but when 5 or 7 is losing is siting quiet.
Crypto trading is one from the most risking markets. True is, that you can win a lot, but in same moment you can lose everything.

Sometimes i think that gambling is more safe..

Outside of gambling as a 'casino term', the broader definition of gambling encompasses altcoin trading, stock market trading, speculative investment purchase (like houses), etc.

Gamble:

take risky action in the hope of a desired result

can BLRY go to 500sat in 2018 ? If yes, I would buy now !

If you are waiting until 2018 you are playing quite the long con, my friend. I think a lot of us are waiting to see if Hillary getting the presidential bid at the Democratic Convention in the Summer will have any bearing on the BLRY exchange rates.

JimmyJones, I'm sad to say this but I don't think Altpool.ninja will be coming back. The owner pdaily hasn't been on since May 4th. I've also been checking his domain everyday since it went down. I was mining there as well, I don't expect to see my coins again. Sad

UPDATE TIME

I've been working profusely to get the minecraft server up and running with whatever time I get. My schedule is pretty jam packed as I have a 9 month old boy and a job. However, progress is coming along nicely, you know what they say "Slow and steady wins the race". The Trap Life minecraft forum/beta registration will be live soon. So if you play minecraft, stay tuned!

A new version of the wallet has been released with some minor GUI updates. Check it out!

POW is almost done as well, according to speculation the price should start to go up more. So if you're debating on whether you should invest, now is probably the time to make up your mind. Smiley

Affiliate marketing, for an altcoin ICO??? I've never heard of that before, and sounds like a huge red flag. There is a fine line between honest affiliate marketing and scam, and without more knowledge of the program it's hard to tell where it lies. I haven't done much research into Rise, but the 'AFFILIATE MARKETING PROGRAM' in the title makes me want to steer clear..
