1061  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Friendly wagers in Bitcointalk on: September 14, 2023, 01:12:30 PM
The thing you indicated in the subject is actually a thing that has been on the forum for a long time. Generally the members joining pools are making "side bets" between themselves. We have made side bets with many members this season. We didn't feel the need of using escrow as we trusted each other. I even created a spreadsheet to be able to follow these. For the ones who would like to take a look at:

spreadsheet

I guess side bets is quite some fun and even though I saw people making their own bets here from time to time, I've never seen a dedicated thread for it.

Actually after creating the spreadsheet Harkorede recommended me to open a new topic for "side bets". I also found it reasonable however I forgot to open the topic. I'm going to open a topic related to side bets tonight. I will make an announcement here as well after opening the topic. I hope that the topic would be beneficial for everyone.

Luckily, trust has been established already that’s why it’s easy to wager with its individual bets and pay after once lose. However, for those who are still new and want to do wagering in bitcointalk, then don’t be too trusting at first. Know your peer well and maybe establish a bond first before you decide to wager with each other. And do not jump into huge bets, who knows your wagering partner can be transparent at first but later on show his true colors and won’t be replying on you anymore. So wager with caution, and as much as possible, do it with your close colleague in bitcointalk.

Using escrow is the best for this kind of situations

I guess it about time to have the thread after all, I'm sure it's going to another be another big thread over time, and for those suggesting escrow that's not bad thing, having an escrow over an eight months side bet of 2mBTC seem rather not worth it if you ask me, if you just don't trust someone there's no point of side bets, and side bets are just often to spice up the competition level generally amongst the Gambling Discussion, I'm sure they some of them would take 100 mBTC - 1 BTC, and would still trust each well enough to not need an escrow, I remember an infamous 0.1 BTC bet between two top members of this forum over the last United States Presidential election.

I think that giving tips on the answers is a personal decision. Some of us like to write those tips here before the deadline, while others don't. I understand both and it's not something anyone should question. Thus is not betting, it's competition. With betting providing tips doesn't hurt anyone while in a competition someone's tip can really make a difference. I remember few weeks ago when casperBGD shared a tip (I can't remember what it was about) and that helped me get one point because I used VAR in that question. It's great for me that he shared that tip, but it wasn't great for my opponent because he lost a point (he didn't see the tip).

Sharing a tip is fine by me as well, but all I'm saying is that the questions being asked are just about bringing exposure to a lot other sports, Trofo sharing websites to find valuable information about tennis is a tip, and a lot of us discussing the lot possibility of certain football matches and the likes are tips especially when we there these series of questions that had to do with teams line up it was about Man United, and they had a couple of injured players before the international, I'm sure that should be a popular discussion on this thread.

Football is easiest sport to make any research on, but I didn't do that for the Messi question initially too, because I didn't watch the against Ecuador but I saw the highlight of the game and Messi score very late into suggested to me that he was definitely available for the.

The last question that involved Messi scoring against an opponent in the MLS, I chose no, and that cost me, meanwhile my reason for going for no then was because Inter Miami were 4+ Odds underdog If I recall correctly.

Or just like some weeks back when a Tennis player had withdrew from a tournament some hour even before the weekly questions was available, the new was shared here and that's literally supposed to be a void question because technically the player didn't participate in tournament, in that case. Despite following this thread heavily, I did missed that question, and the CRO had to come up with a had decision because they weren't aware either.

So for context sake; sharing a tip is contrast to giving an already available answer to question, If anyone always have their bits to say about each game week question as tip, I'm sure I am of those who does it a lot on this thread.

And PS: As of the time I used my VAR there was no further information whatsoever available to me, It really was just gutsy call, based on the opponent and a hunch that it was likely an opportunity to give some players playing time in the NT.

I'm pleased to announce our biggest-ever prize pot of $11,000 ($10,000 crypto + $1,000 in freebets) in sponsorship funds, courtesy of crypto casino and sportsbook Rollbit!

Great work buddy! You know I wouldn't pass on this one, I didn't even pass when it's a free pool neither did when all we had for the was just the entry, and the concept of two pool is really genius idea,

Don't worry! I owe your a bottle of Whiskey when I win the first position in both pools.

I should have send my fees already, but I'm currently having troubles with my BTC (Made a deposit to SB with a around 10 sat/byte and it took over 5 days with no confirmation, having already exhausted my balance over that period bumping the fee would have seen it cancel because I needed to another deposit, so I sent to Binance instead trying with higher having reached out to SB customer service before the move, however Binance is already here with some BS, should be sorted before the week ends still though, I'm just livid about being stuck in between, coupled with some other RL stress).

What offer have you for me regarding a Side ? 2 mBTC for each pool, I finish above you in each pool the pools are independent of each other and are two separate side bets, what say you ?

@Harkorede You were aware of the Messi News and decided to use the VAR by PM; why didn't you notify us via the thread? I mean, you have nothing to lose. What a snake  Grin

I think the essence of the VAR is personal, and it beats the purpose already, if everyone's throwing every possible answers here, I actually don't like the fact people drop answers to some question before round begins, It's understandable when it's just speculations but dropping real time answers beat the purpose of the competition especially knowing some players from the Clubhouse chat might not hang around this thread that often.

And on the Lionel Messi question I really didn't know if he was going to miss the game, the most I anticipated was a limited number of minutes and that was enough reason for me to change my answer, and If I had drop my intuition here and my opponent also followed suit on with my decision, I'd currently be trailing him.

The coach never said Messi wasn't going to play, all he said was Messi is available that if he wasn't available or ready to play he wouldn't have travelled with the squad for the Bolivia match, and that Messi being subbed of in the last game was a precaution and nothing more, my interpretation of his words is what lead to my decision, Bolivia was never an important or a tough team that the Argentines would need Messi's presence on the pitch for, so him not playing 90 minutes in the previous game, to was him saying he just needed much rest after the heavy fixtures of recent weeks in the MLS, and I just presumed travelling with the team for the Bolivia match was to fulfil is obligation as the team's captain and would likely sit that one out.

How Leo Messi was trending toward getting some rest
Messi, the 36-year-old soccer great, did not practice with his Argentina teammates Monday, according to the Associated Press.

Considering Messi’s recent stretch of games — playing 12 consecutive matches for MLS' Inter Miami before flying overseas — fatigue was the reason he asked to be pulled just before the 89th minute during the Argentina qualifying match.

“Leo was tired the other day and asked to be substituted,” Scaloni said. “But it’s not needed that we speak to him before matches. We see as it goes.”

His playing fate was decided hours before Tuesday’s match at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz, Bolivia, as Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni alluded to in a press conference Sunday.

"Leo is going to travel, today he trained separately, but he is fit," he confirmed.

"There are two days left, and we will make a decision on whether or not he will play the day before or on Tuesday.

"Messi and Cuti Romero are fit, and we'll see if he plays from the start or from the bench or even if he doesn't play.

"He trained separately as a precaution and the other day he was tired and asked to be substituted, but he will be in Bolivia".

........

For his part, Scaloni said that there will not be many changes with respect to the line-up that won 1-0 against Ecuador on Thursday night.

"The team will be similar to that of the other day, the same block as always, although there may be some variations," he said.

I probably wouldn't have made any extra research at all, as I didn't even know there was any potential doubt about his availability, but the post that spark my interest is quoted below and I felt I might have missed something because I thought the questions all seemed way too simple and need no stressful diggings.

I submitted already but might have to use VAR later because it's not clear about one question (secret, secret!) how the game will feature and it impacts answer, so fingers crossed I onnly have 1 VAR left Smiley
1065  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⭐⚽⭐ Sportsbet's Bitcointalk Sports Fanatics League (BSFL) – 7000+$ rewards ⭐⚽⭐ on: September 12, 2023, 08:29:58 PM
Sent mine ! Best of luck to both of us @Harkorede. I hope I win this round, I need another 3 points to secure a position that is safe from relegation  Roll Eyes but I guess I made some wild picks there

This is another game I'm looking forward to, Harko! You know what you do best! Remember your nickname " The Terminator"? You have my support.  Grin

Oh gosh it seems he is the real deal terminator. Ukraine losing right now and Messi not in the lineup means that Im potentially going to lose 2 points now. Im actually pretty confident with Austria winning so thats probably going to be most likely 2-1 in favour of Harkorede today but Im hoping to win though as Im badly wanna avoid the relegation zone  Roll Eyes

I used my VAR on the Messi question, I saw the Scaloni press conference, and I knew it that Messi was going to get pass from that game, he's being playing a lot of minutes lately for Inter Miami and the substitution against Ecuador was a major precaution, I learnt he travelled with the team for the Bolivia match but I knew he was going to be risked for such game, I just need Argentina to get the job done.

It's much a fine margin between Ukraine and Italy, Ukraine is still pretty much a tight rope here, I hope Italy just don't concede any more goal, at least, I don't mind get parity from that fixture, meanwhile Austria with 3 quick goals in 2nd half have put you in the advantage right now, it shows how quickly everything can switch up in these matches huh  Shocked

It's quite confusing to me because if they were really aiming to get the gold then the roster they have sent should've been more capable and not just those star players who are still young and not so experienced. On the bright side, these young players are now more experienced because of the exposure they got during their run in the FIBA but then again, they are just a hyped roster that doesn't really stand out. Also, many have speculated that maybe Germany couldn't make it if Jokic played with the Serbia.

I don’t think USA team were looking forward to winning the FIBA tournament with the players they picked, although they were the heavy favorites, I believe the team was picked based on the national team’s future, the selected teams are arguably the face of the league for the new generation, and I find it understandable that there wasn’t enough chemistry between them, they’ve almost never played together before and Steve Kerr as the coach seems like a mistake imo, the players selected were based on popularity and not dynamism, there was zero defense in the team and the best defenders on the roster didn’t get much playing time or were out of sync with style of play. I believe they’ve gotten the experience needed which I believe was the reason for their selection in the first instance, and some players showed masterclass and that they can thrive under almost any system whatsoever.

1068  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: September 12, 2023, 10:31:12 AM
This is some rule I'm finding it very hard to come to terms with, what's the issue with a team resting their stars ?, probably for tougher for fixtures ahead or the so called work load management, you have some guys playing back to back, about 4 games in a week on the road sometimes, how do you expect these players to keep up for an entire season without fatigue setting in or becoming more prone to injury, I understand that this could be a move towards cubbing match fixing and making every penny some fans pay to come watch some big teams only for them to find out that it's their rotation team that's gracing the court. Despite the amount of rest these supposed stars get, you see how many games they miss being out injured, and playing the post season through one discomfort or the order, NBA might need to work on a more flexible schedule for this teams before prioritizing some supposedly resting rules for humans, not robot, nor aliens.

Yes, and we really don't know how started it, maybe it has been done way before Kawhi. It's just Doc Rivers was the first one to speak about it and that's why it highlighted Kawhi with it. But I do agree that did shouldn't be done in the first place by any coach or team. I mean there are fans who paid expensive tickets and it's a disappointing that when they come to see and watch the games, the superstars are nowhere to be found? Haven't they seen Kobe, in which he broke his fingers and trainer Gary Vitti pops it back in in live TV? Damn (RIP Mamba), where are those kind of players now? All of them with huge contracts are being pampered.

I understand but I don't think the players themselves derive any joy from not playing, I agree that for some of them, it might just be about every dollar bill they can lay their hands, but before you can get to be a player enough to get contract renewal or get signed by NBA team as free agent, there sure would have been one hell of a job you put in, and talent is just never enough the hard work is always required of them too. However, we need to understand travelling between states even by private jets every other day is tough task enough and the schedules are just too large and these players be getting tired too, fr and what's the essence of having a very large roster if some people aren't meant to get on some minutes right, we are taking about playing 82 games, with around slightly over 5 months before the playoffs, usually an average of more 3+ games weekly, every star will eventually burn out, but I guess not being involved in the games at when they're fit all the name of rest might be a little weird because that's what they're getting paid to do, I believe a high minute restriction in these cases wouldn't be so bad.

If you consider it properly, these players play through all kinds of pain during the post season which shows how much it means to them too, and a huge percentage of them gets one surgery or the other immediately the season is over, and that doesn't suggest any other fact than their commitment to the cause of the season.

Hello Kawhi Leonard.
Sources: NBA likely to pass tougher rules on resting stars
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/38380166/sources-nba-likely-pass-tougher-rules-resting-stars
Quote
The NBA is expected to pass more stringent rules and punishments to limit the resting of star players for nationally televised and in-season tournament games and instances of multiple All-Stars sitting out individual regular-season games, sources told ESPN on Monday.

The NBA's competition committee recommended a plan that the league's board of governors is expected to approve Wednesday. It would ultimately give the league office authority for greater oversight over discipline for missed games and an ability to fine teams over $1 million for each instance of violating resting rules, sources said.
If ever this is approved, no more load management. He must find a good reason if ever he wants to take a rest. The same with Kyrie Irving who shouted about the back-to-back games that he doesn't want to play.
Looks like the NBA is wearing its fangs to this type of behavior. The chances of the team management as the culprit for resting there are high and I'd agree that they should be the ones who should be fined if their players are behaving unnaturally even though they are able to play. It's given that they want to protect their assets but what about the fans who are expecting to see their stars on the day they are able to watch and yet they cannot be seen anywhere?
It's bad for business, NBA business. Cheesy

It's been a while since I sent my entries this early.  Cheesy

The last question gave me a hard time since almost every team expected to win doesn't have the best recent results and will be up against a team with a similar form.

I already learned not to trust a couple of them but I have a feeling a few of them are due to win and will surprise me by killing my prediction.  Tongue

I don't think I've also seen a week were the questions looks as easy as this, at least that's how it feels, because I can say specifically that the round of questions looks very easy from first glance, I guess that could be because there is no much of a probability and permutation this time around it's just guts and coin flip, but with as easy as it seems once the results starts coming in, you should expect a huge variation and there will hardly be so many draws for this week I can foresee, because there will be a lot of varying perspective and some leaning towards the sides of caution with the answers (like me), and which almost always never ends well ngl.

My opponent is already 3 goals up, and I'm done with this horrible season. Trofo, you were right, my odds of being dropped to Div 2 are extremely good. I'll be surprised if I'm not relegated at this point.

Don't worry mate. Promotion battle is quite fun plus, remember, no need to pay fee lol

We need a Southampton to represent the brand Division 2, Enjoy the ride mate, we'll cheering for you to get back up in time, at least myself and Buwaytress would have bragging rights on you over that period Tongue  Tongue

Be calm still, you're going nowhere, you're not get off that easy, the bants must continue and you'll need to be in the first division for it, just see your as the club you represent with Chelsea from last season, you really just need spend a whole on signing, and If recall correctly you fired manager this season already, which would the person in charge now Graham Potter right, when is the next board meeting because I'm expecting another coach to be without a job at the end of this game week.

Poland, Denmark, Serbia and Netherlands, 8-9 points is all I need to win this round or at least not getting between 5-7 points to earn a point, I must say that I really blew it myself because I knew what my answers really should have been.

Not looking good for those of us cheering Gauff today. Sabalenka turned it on and only points Gauff can get are unforced errors. First set has gone quickly, hopefully Gauff can make a fight of it in second. I feel like this match can be turned and that sabalenka will give out a lot of free points if it gets though.

We are back on level mate!

It will take more than a Sabalenka not playing her best tennis to bring down Coco Gauff in 2 straight sets! It's one set apiece we are headed for the 3rd now, Coco Gauff from her first grand slam, who says yes ?

At least those who went with one set have been put off the spreadsheet for now right, I don't think there are many who went for 2 sets.

EDIT:

1. Hell yeah! we are almost there, 3 love lead in the final set on a double break, a service hold now would put Gauff on 4 love lead, there is definitely no getting back from 4 love deficit for Sabalenka, if Coco manages to hold this serve!

2. She f**king did, it's 4 games to love, Just inches away now Gauff!

It’s just pathetic how Gareth Southgate have a lot of great talent at his disposal, but can’t put together a team worth the opponents tinkering or trying to raise their level to compete or get result off the 3 lions. Guehi and Harry Maguire paired as starting CB choice for Southgate what else could anyone expect, if that isn’t enough as a recipe for disaster.. My fear is that if the FA isn’t careful or find a capable manager soon enough, this great generation of talents, might just end up like the much hyped “Golden generation” of Belgium, which turned out to be nothing but a complete waste of generational talents.

Although I do agree that Southgate isn't much of a manager, he's actually got really good results with England.
They were good in the WC, have done great in the qualifiers so far, they were by far the better team away to Ukraine today and they conceded from Ukraine's only shot on target.

They had it far worse than Southgate in recent years and in my opinion he should be given more credit. The thing is that he's really not that likable and his career was basically nonexistent, so he gets a lot of hate whenever they don't win.

Perhaps, I guess I'm the only thinking too much of these players and talents that I believe England's got, maybe I'm just overrating them, but having the likes of Maddison, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Kane, TAA, Walker, and Rashford, more so the quality in the GK spot is also overwhelmingly competitive enough for England to be settling for the barest of result, they were good in the last Europe, but they weren't better in World Cup in my opinion finishing as Group winners in a group consisting of USA, Iran and Wales, then a round of 16 win over Senegal, however, their first real test imo was the one they failed against France. I really just think England have way too many talents to be settling for these kinds runs in major tournaments or maybe they're just actually all overrated as a lot folks claim.

Son is a bit of special story, he did not just score a lot of points like Sterling did a week before. He actually played as a striker which is a position much better suited for him then far on the left. Now somebody will say that he played on the left with Kane all the time, but that isn't the same position. With Kane in the team dropping deep, Son was quite central while wings in this new Spurs provide width and have very little goal threat. That position change if permanent could make Son indispensable to our clubs and if I had an easy way to get him into my team or a midfielder I don't longer want in my team I would transfer him in this week.

I for once felt Richarlison would be firing on all cylinders now, but he can't even get himself established at the main center striker, and Harry Kane might have left but the arrival of Maddison would make it rather tougher for either of Son or Richarlison whichever of them can't holding the No. 9 position properly because there's no one getting Maddison off that No. 10 role, and if both of them can't make rain goals anymore then perhaps Postecoglou might just pull his wild card up early, I mean with Veliz Alejo, could EPL have another Erling Haaland in sight ??

Weird round for me as well, can't get anything right. My only point is from good old Portugal, who usually has low-scoring games in the qualifiers.

I was able get this right too, it was an easy decision for me, knowing how much of a patch the Portuguese team is going through and Slovakia aren’t the opponent to concede large amount of goals too.

If there was any question I felt so undone by that would going with France to win in the Rugby World Cup opener against New Zealand but not going for the Under 47.5, and also not following my instinct on Ben Shelton to oust Frances Tiafoe, those two questions would have guaranteed my victory for this round, but now I need England to win without conceding any goal to have a very great chance to get 3 points, if not, it’s going to be a very delicate margin for the remaining few questions.

Salah+ Mitoma = £19m
Rashford+ Saka = £18.6m

Which combo is better?

Without checking their fixtures, it will be a very hard call to make for me, because It could easily Salah over Rashford for majority of the time, but so it is with how I would easily pick Saka over Mitoma in equal fixtures too, Saka is on penalties and is certain to be on field all day long as well, so both combo makes up for each other one way or the other, but if the fixtures are even, I might go for the cautiously moderate one of Rashford + Saka, then take that +0.4m advantage to go for an additional upgrade across the squad that could potentially make up for any short coming of the choice, if there happen to be one, or an upgrade that could get me the extra point if both combo were to be an even one.

I lost all of my bets well you can really never tell the outcome of the game and there are really monster teams outside of the NBA in what I see in these Fiba games or maybe because their chemistry was something we should not underestimate aswell and both teams if you examine their team they are link 2 teams that combined to be one so they have known each other and each other's playing pattern that is why their movement is so slick what I notice about Serbia and Germany team, surely if I have known this ahead maybe there can be a different outcome but surely I am surely witnessing these teams 1st hand

There are indeed monsters outside NBA and extremely great players as well, these players that are representing the aren't the best of the NBA rather, the best of the lower 30/35% ? right, I would not associated Canada and USA's loss to the fact that it's due to better players than those of NBA, because these losses can be said to have been facilitated by the NBA players from the opposing teams, I know basketball doesn't evolve around NBA alone and there are other fantastic and players out there in Europe and Asia or other parts of the world that will dominate in the NBA.

However, the USA or Canadian national basketball team is never a standard to hold or judge the NBA by, in my candid opinion.

Home crowd will support Coco for sure and she has good H2H record against Sabalenka.

This is one of the reason that I took over 3+ sets by betting on Gauff, I mean home crowd advantage could be a factor in here

For me it was putting all my cards, at least 4 or 5 of them against Sabalenka, I knew an American was pretty much going to make the finals, but my major move here was expecting at least each players should get at least a set each off Sabalenka from the QFs into the Finals and that seemed rather more probable.

However, Sabalenka I really can't say have just been lucky but her game have been A+, but against Maddison Keys she was very very close to getting eliminated, and that's something that could really help her mentally going into a final against a heavily home supported Coco Gauff.
