A problem with other people being idiots is that their stupidness affects the non-idiots, too.
True, however at least there is a way to spot them: No mask=idiot. Run like fucking hell.

Would be nice, if at least, systems were put in place so that regular people could get decent personal protective equipment such as n95 masks, but it is crazy that we are several months into this matter and still have not figured out how to make and adequately distribute n95 masks to regular people or even test kits to professional facilities get some priorities straight..

Instead, we neither need personal protective equipment, apparently, nor do we need to have testing available and carried out.

Agreed. I've been wearing my P100 NBC gear when going out, unlike cloth masks it actually will provide solid protection against a moron with a cough. However I have a limited supply of cartridges as I truly figured I would be dealing with nukes which have a shorter half life for the bad stuff. Running for a year is going to be complicated and no there are no spares to be found.

On the positive side I'm still on my first set of filters so they are lasting longer than I thought. Good.

I cannot believe the complete levels of incompetence seen in this event. I swear to fucking God, if gremlins existed we would all be dead in a day:

"Remember: Don't expose it to water...."
"Fuck you, I know my rights (throws gremlin into the nearest ocean)"

Much like no science fiction movie through the 80's really thought of an internet, no disaster movie ever had people begging to be the first to go (well, Lovecraft....)

Yeah, it's fun to watch the pictures of hundreds of people in large pools, frolicking around. Or jam packed on the beach, only a few wearing masks. Last time it was just a few thousand people coming back from Europe. Now we have a lot more infected all ready to roll through the countryside...

Stack your coins, live smart, and ride it out. Hopefully this will thin the herd of idiots in the world, this would not be a bad thing.

I cannot believe that someone concocted a legal loophole allowing assholes to pay $2.13/hr already (instead of measly federal $7.25).

When your pay is based on the charity of others as opposed to the work you do, it's not pay.
1104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 24, 2020, 11:39:01 PM
It's true, but $2400+828=$3228/mo in TX for furloughed restaurant workers surely beats maybe $160 (for 80hr at $2 per hr)+ maybe $1-1.2K in tips.
I agree with coming back, though, especially since restaurants have them in a bind: you can't NOT come back when they ask you, plus they got a sweetener of maybe $100-200/wk of COVID-pay (that comes from PPP). I know all this 'cause someone I know well works part time at a restaurant.

Damn, that would mean either offering higher wages or enslaving workers. Wonder which way this country will go.

I'm going for the bitcoin. I think she has "you just blew a bitcoin on my tits" on her chest. Don't want to see that for 2 months.

"brain interface....please download everything in the Internet archives from 2010 to 2030 related to Bitcoin"

Thank God I will likely be dead.

Indeed. Can you imagine all of Roach's crap downloaded into your brain in an instant?

Hm. Tough poll: Does pizza girl bring you free pizza for 2 months?

Do you get a new pizza girl every day? Does she go home when asked?

These are important considerations.

This is... beyond hilarious!

Perhaps we can raise some money for our bro? Like donations for ex-bitcoiners who were forced to sell?  Cool

We could have a "fallen bros" donation fund.

Like insurance for hat wearers.

What could go wrong?

Only if the money is spent on:

a) Hookers
b) Blow
c) Lambos

For the fallen comrade.

Honestly, if you need transactions to clear really quickly I'd suggest using litecoin at this point.

Yes, it's a shitcoin, but if you've got a hooker in your room, she's done her job, and you want her gone (that's why you pay hookers: To leave) a 2.5 minute confirmation time is of high value. Right now standing around for 30 minutes doing idle chitshat is not worth any amount in fees :-)

1115  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2020, 02:16:31 PM
Why would having more miners make any difference in fees. Any miner will mine the highest value transactions, that's just like saying wheels will fall into potholes.

*shakes head*
uh... supply and demand?

? The only supply and demand involved is demand for space in each block. The supply of space is fixed, at 1MB. It doesn't matter if there is one miner or one billion, or what the hash rate of the network is. The only thing that sets fees is how much people are willing to pay to get into a block. When demand is low, fees are low, and visa-versa.

Right. Also the more miners, the greater the difficulty and the less profit per miner anyway. It's a pure queen's race and the perfect example of a perfect marketplace. Has no bearing on fees beyond a 2 week difficulty adjustment period.

Ibian does not seem to "get it". There is no magic wand to wave over bitcoin to get what you want or "deserve". That's part of the reason why I like it: The rules are pretty solid.

I'm so sorry for your losses, that must be terrible.
Thank you. One friend did blow his brains out while sick, so I don't know if that counts or not.

Quote
A woman at the dinner party had a slight cough, she later lost her sense of smell and that's when she understood she got covid-19. Both my brother and his wife got infected, this was on a Thursday, when I visited them on Sunday and had lunch with them my brother was coughing and that must have been when I got it, because about five days later I started getting symptoms.
He doesn't live with me but I visit him and his wife regularly for dinner.
His wife is in a worst state, in bed with a high fever and cough, my brother is felling pretty ok, not totally cured, but good enough to work from home. (he's a forwarding agent at Postnord, formerly the royal (Swedish) mail).
Once again, thank you for the data. Sounds very contagious, I'll keep this in the back of my mind.

1118  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 18, 2020, 12:51:00 AM
A real life story in Houston (secondhand, but reliable): a guy (in his mid thirties) was paranoid re CV and was sitting at home for two months straight (bought lots of groceries beforehand), ordered a keyboard on the Amazon, keyboard did not work to his satisfaction, he went to UPS to return it, forgot to wear mask, returned the item to the store clerk (who was also not wearing the mask). Boom, he became sick in four days and it was a really bad CV to the point that he was updating his will.
Moral of the story: despite being careful, you never know if this thing is gonna get you or not. Almost like a lottery in reverse.
Sounds right. Technically speaking every time you interact with the world you roll a saving throw against disease. And while with a good P100 mask and gloves you only need to roll a 1 or better on a D100, If you roll too many times eventually it will come up snake eyes....

My main reason I say "fuck you" to the government's assertion that everything is "safe".

Doesn't sound like the Flu...

Good to hear you're alive. Any ideas on how you might have gotten it?

Yes, my idiot brother went to a dinner party, one of the guests was infected, he then passed it on to me.
Thanks, that's a very good bit of data, was he next to the sick person, were they coughing, and did he cough on you? Does he live with you?

Sorry for all the questions, but you're the second person I know who got this and lived (several didn't).

Thanks again!

Thank you Hairy, thank you heslo.

I have had almost no appetite, but this morning I woke up around six o clock (after going to sleep at about 3 in the afternoon, yes that's how much I sleep) and was hungry as a bear after winter, and had a craving for a hamburger.
So, Bic mac and co, coffee with lots of milk, and apple pie. The biggest meal i have had for weeks.
