Even if someone comes around as a fucking retarded asshole, he/she/it is acting this way just because he/she/it is struggling with life in some way, like all of us do/did and will always do so again.

This resonated deeply within me.

Very insightful.

Thank you for the perspective. As obvious as it is in retrospect, I have not considered the sentiment as you have stated.

I also have to thank you, for making the original post that made me remember, associate and reply to, making it possible to share it with our virtual family here on bitcointalk's WO thread.

My kids were teaching me this, not too long ago. Not that they have told me, but i saw it in my behavior in front of them on days standing out from the rest.
OK, fuck it, i'll tell you the whole story:
I realized they were "not behaving well", or "unusually disrespectful" at the least, on days when there were huge bearish bitcoin market moves. In reality, i was upset, even if just a little, they were sensing the slightest restlessness inside me, which made them feel to stand outside of my awareness, feeling left alone by me, by getting less, but more stressing attention. Then they did their best to "move themselves into focus" again, which made me react in an angry manner. One day it just hit me, thinking "they are like that sometimes, but most time it doesn't bother me that much". Some thoughts later, i remembered a quote, similar to the one you quoted from my post above, but after that, it was just sticking in my mind. It was like watching my mind to attach the meaning of the quote to "bad behaviour", when i react too much to it, let it draw my negative attention to it. I also experienced these situations a couple of times in the days and weeks after this event, mainly some with shitty covid19/political background details hitting the news.
Now, some months later, i can see the struggling person in the opponent(s) of most social conflicts, even if only visualized before my inner eyes, and react differently to it.
IRL, it doesn't work every time, though, which i think is to be blamed to my lil memory problems or too heavy distraction.
On the other hand, we wouldn't be humans if we would be or act flawless  Cheesy

EDIT: I hope the story makes sense, i omitted many details, but there's that project i am "working" on now...
Alcohol turned out to be a pretty good solvent for THC, i'm still experimenting with preparing the good stuff at different temperatures, with different concentrations, eiher gin or vodka as carrier. Today i tested vaporizer remains, which is almost as potential as thc-oil, soaked three days in japanese gin. I definitely have to add a good multitude of pure gin because i made a gin-tonic with 4cl (double shot), and i didn't even have a full quarter of the drink, nor might i have the balls to empty it, in face of fighting a full, busy day tomorrow, starting in about eight hours.  Grin
I had no idea what i will be going through, just for a freaky christmas present idea for some long time friends. Made me think i've already become too old for this  Wink

It is a part of the game…. But it’s the part I hate most … dips that aren’t worth to been bought…. Only being annoying

I'm just baffled each time how "short time holders" are reducing their yields.

But however, almost everybody is looking for a dip to get in, so here we are again  Cool

Well, this afternoon was a bit surreal.

Caught up with our estate planner to update our wills, and we have become "the bitcoin couple" at the firm working with us.

Last we checked in, our attorney had a rough idea of what my stash was worth, and it was impressive to him then - a few years ago - and after revealing the current value of our holdings, he was just absolutely dumbfounded. Could not believe that I held the stash we do (minus what I've peeled off for the ranch / retirement) and the wealth we've come into by sheer HODLING.

Began to recognize at that point we suddenly "ranked" at the firm as one of their top tier clients.

Their firms current, biggest whale is worth about $500M. Expecting him to reach billionaire status within a few years on one of his enterprises.

Fucking crazy world we live in.

Thanks Satoshi.

Thanks for putting up with all my shit, Rick!

Life's a one way ticket.
Enjoy the ride!  Grin

EDIT: I remember you getting a little upset about Rick being a diva sometimes (or you being too much of an asshole).
Well, probably exclusive to mankind, and also most substantial of, as well as influential on our behavior and life experience, what drives both of you, ALL of us:

EMOTIONS

Value them. Value the good ones, value the bad ones. Accept all of them, in everyone. Each of them have their qualities and purposes.
Imagine a life without emotions! Like being dead but still breathing...  Shocked
And remember: Even if someone comes around as a fucking retarded asshole, he/she/it is acting this way just because he/she/it is struggling with life in some way, like all of us do/did and will always do so again.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Discovered a nasal spray containing carrageen, a stuff effectively decreasing viral replication rate in nasal/throat tissue.
Trials in healthcare staff departments of hospitals were showing about 80% decrease in severity and duration of viral infections if applied early, and about the same effect on infection rate when applied prophylactic, four times a day.
Virologists say they can imagine "broad usage" among populations.
It also delivers some degree of protection/ease regarding some allergies.

"ALGOVIR" is the product's name.

Update to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg58434717#msg58434717

So self-antigen-testing is not accepted as official test from the date of today. The government was organizing distribution of PCR gargling test kits from a well known grocery chain as well as from pharmacies. Three tests a week per registered citizen. Rollout started last week, today most stores have already run out of testing kits *applause*.
People started hoarding kits last week and only a fraction of them were actually used and taken to the collection points, where the should be picked up every weekday and sent to the contracted labs. Results should be sent via push message to the according app, which every applying user had to install on a smartphone.
A test result would be valid for 72 hours after actual testing, delivered within 20-24 hours, so effectively usable for going to work for two days after receiving the result.

Great stuff, isn't it?
But guess what...
IT FAILED  Sad

Why did such a great idea fail?
1. hoarding of testkits - some people needing results in the next 24 hours, no testkits available in most pickup locations.

2. Results took more than 48 hours to get delivered, sometimes even more. Over the weekend, 16k tests were carried out, 107k testing kits where sent to the lab.

Huh

Now how the hell could this happen?

First, the contractor lab was chosen by request of proposal (open bidding) by the government. They defined clear milestones, like "n tests carried out per day".
The "winner" of the bidding had to admit that they didn't meet some of the requirements, but had already planned to expand their labs to make it "in short time", because they didn't expect such a flood of submitted test kits.
But one may ask: Why only 16k tests over a whole weekend?

And the answer is *drumroll*:

A Covid19 cluster in the main lab.
Many employees were tested postitive last week and quarantined, so they couldn't handle a sufficient number of testing kits.

For example, my wife tested on saturday morning, to be allowed to work on monday morning, finally received the result monday afternoon (valid until tuesday morning).

Other news:

Lockdown (light) for unvaccinated citizens started as planned.
I had to drive my daughter to the horse riding lesson today, totally illegal, because children don't count as "needy people", so driving children from home to school or sports is not covered by the law (for the unvaccinated parent) yet. And this is not the first time they totally forgot about the little ones.
For example, children over age 12 have to be vaccinated to move freely and untested in the public, while they are allowed no earlier than at age 14 to decide for themselves if they want to get a shot or not.

Also, government announced to reduce full immunity status (green pass) for vaccinated individuals from 12 to 9 months.
In the decree, they only reduced to 9 months for people who had been jabbed with Johnson&Johnson's vaccine.
Fun fact: Individuals recovered from Covid19 get "fully immune" status for only 6 months, while government recommended booster shots no more than 6 months after "full vaccination", because antibody levels dropping significantly after 5-6 months. Vulnerable high-risk individuals should get the booster already 4 months after "full immunization".

Conclusion: This is a great plot for not to handle a pandemic. More epic horrors ahead, with already 40% of all ICU's in the country occupied, and hospital capacities taken by about 50% at the moment.

UP NEXT...

Hot topics currently being discussed in parliament:

1. Mandatory vaccination for healthcare workers
2. More mandatory vaccination for kindergarten staff, elderly care nurses, policemen...
3. Nighttime curfew for everybody

EDIT: An addition to the first paragraph: Antigen tests taken and evaluated by health professionals (doctors, nurses, therapists) and pharmacies are still valid for unvaccinated people being allowed to go to work, but unlike PCR tests only over the course of 24 hours.
I just digged through the law and the current decree and found various holes to slip through for social contact, and even some sort of freedom. While unvaxxed are not allowed to do anything like shopping, visit most recreational facilities or meet people from more than a single household, everyday life is possible unless you are dependent on entertainment and socializing in groups.

Thie is getting way beyond popcorn level.
Interesting times.

Thanks, good to know. Question: Did you guys do the Astra Zenica vaccine there, or Sinovax, or Sputnik? Curious to see how those stack against good ole Moderna 5G tech.

The very first broadly available was AZ, which was given mostly to the elderly, high risk groups and medical staff.
After the blood clot problems with AZ were discovered, mainly Moderna and Pfizer, along with Johnson, which was kind of a substitute for AZ, because nobody wanted it anymore and first of all, young folks preferred it because it was only a single jab.
For the boosters, they only use Pfizer and Moderna, while Moderna got some bad reputations, especially when used with younger people, so it's chosen less often lately.

Q1/Q2-2022 candidates are Valneva and some other vaccine based on sterilized virus/particles.

I thought that was Oberösterreich only

Nope. Until friday, yes. Incidences are going through the roof atm.
Saturday the minister of health announced the nation-wide LD for the unvaxxed, today it was fixed in parliament, effective 53 minutes after publishing it to the national "legal information system". People are allowed to go to work and buy food, visit pharmacies, gas stations, go out for a refreshment walk. but NO more shopping and going out or visiting friends/family for the unvaxxed.
Government is wetting their pants right now. They did nothing all summer, called out the "end of the pandemic", followed by the "end of the pandemic for the vaccinated".
40% of all covid patients in hospital are fully vaxxed, rumors say the number rose to 50% this week, while about 20% are currently fully vaxxed in ICU.

They did a lot of testing before, then they stopped testing of fully vaccinated people. Also, vaccinated folks that got close to an infected person were no more needed to self-quarantine and testing. So the infection counts exploded, they said PCR testing is mandatory for going to work, also in effect tomorrow, and the labs already refused to take newly submitted tests on saturday, because they don't have the capacity to process them. Next they want mandatory vaccination for people working in geriatric and medical field, while the hospitals are expecting up to 20% of their staff to quit.

Thie is getting way beyond popcorn level.
Interesting times.

I will continue reporting in the covid observer thread after today.

EDIT: uhm, forgot to mention that they dedicated a bunch of police officers, who should watch, check and prosecute peeps not obeying to the restrictions.

Upped my weed reserves a week in advance, when it was already fairly obvious that things will get shitty again.

Yes I survived 2013 with all my stash, that's actually when I got almost all of my stash.
But that doesn't make this bobbing up and down i the 60xxx range any less annoying.
I would be much happier if we bobbed around in the 80xxx range.

Congrats Smiley
Don't worry, i think we will bobble around somewhere between the even 10k levels regularly.
Next week probably $7x.xxx bobbling, followed by $8x.xxx
I got used to check the price often, but i am not bothered by movements (or non-movements) much before mid of December.

This time it's different (as with every cycle).
Also, if China resumes their vacation from the markets, things should go up very quickly.

I thought that was 60s hippie slang.

Hm, afaik "the flow" was a concept of the early 90's.
For example, "groovy" was more a popular 60's hippy slang term, imho.
But i might be wrong, i was born in the 70s and "go with the flow" was a revived phrase.

Just one thing in my mind...

Nobody talked/talk here about the release of 140K BTC from Mtgox (should be very soon) ?

I assume it doesn't change the long term view on BTC... But into this bull market cycle (still quite calm and not so explosive as many expected/expect till now) , I am curious to see how the market can react at least on a short time view. Some drop again? 52K? 42K?

On the other hand, we have all the positive fondamental from the BTC side : ETF, GAFA owning BTC (corporate or individuals), legal tenders started in Central-South America... And if we are honest, on 2015 or 2017 we even didn't think about these points. So should be VERY bullish now IMHO.

HODL.

140K coins is not even half of the supply of a year of the current halvening cycle.
About as many coins as are "supplied" by mining are leaving exchanges, sometomes even more, according to on-chain analysis, IIRC.
I put "supplied" under quotes, because miners are also accumulating for future sales, so these coins might get on the market in the future, or not.
Also, i consider the typical MtGox customer as a hodler, so i doubt that every single released coin will be dumped for filthy fiat.

Even if my opinion might have flaws:
We'll see. For me it will be an opportunity to throw spare fiat at low bitcoin prices.

Last not least: I'd honestly like to support my country, in means of giving back, because i am living off health insurance because of a memory condition that made me an underachiever in my well paid job which i did exceptionally well.

I find the juxtaposition of the idea of "underachiever' and "doing it well" to be confusing.

You mean that you were good at under achieving or you were good at your job or some other thing that I am not quite understanding?

Oh, yeah. That didn't make much sense there, so here's a clarification:
I meant i did my job (really) well, before i got sick, which made me an underachiever.
I was able to work about an hour on something i could not finish and it made me stressed out and feel exhausted for at least the rest of the day.

https://www.newsbtc.com/news/bitcoin/bitcoin-whale-wallet-with-150-million-activated-after-8-years/

And you guys scared one of these whales to move their coins.. Keep talking about "abandoned" coins and we might see some movement from old addresses.

C'mon! I think i remember that quite some amounts were moved before black friday in the past years. They didn't even mention how many BTC were transacted, to which addresses, etc.
Maybe it even was an old dog from this forum, who went to somewhere in the world to dig out a long time hidden seedword list he left there once.
I would be scared if multiple "in-only" addresses where BTC were accumulated within the last 4 years would send all of their coins to a single exchange, but roughly 2.200 BTC? That's a tiny fraction of the total of the MtGox case addresses.
I would be happy if it was one of the addresses CSW claimed to own, just to blame this fraud.

Never mind, i learned to embrace it, and with the right therapy i got to the point to actually enjoy life as such again, no... even better than before, at least in some parts i didn't learn to value it in my "old life".

Hey-Ho!

Crypto tax on the horizon in my country  Sad
The blueprint accounts 27,5% capital gains tax when selling BTC/crypto.
Swapping from crypto to crypto or stablecoin is not a taxable event, though.

This leaves me to use BTC/crypto to buy things (tax free).

The only thing that leaves me confused is that BTC is legal tender in El Salvador, and the blueprint of the law defines selling as "changing into a legal tender".
So maybe BTC is an exception to the rule and "taxically" untouchable?

Edit: on the other hand, income tax, which was to be paid for short-term gains (under a year, also for swapping), will be a thing of the past for crypto  Smiley

First Bitcoin does not belong to your country aka company so it can not be taxed.
Second a legal contract requires at least two willing parties. Coercion is not legal.
Third every human is, by free will, a sovereign nation and self-governing if he/she chooses to do so.

Note to self: Ask theymos to implement a feature to revoke (single) Merit from users that have been merited by the revoking user in the past.

I don't know where are you from, but if it's big amount (nice 7 digits or 8 ), just move to Portugal.

That would be nice (i mean the 7 digits), and i probably wouldn't even care, because i consider myself quite humble in regards of monetary richness.

I was just trying to remember where I read or heard about this (but my memory failed, and I'm not sure which jurisdiction/s this would apply to), but somewhere recently I came across the following notion:

Exchanging from one currency# to another is not a taxable event (otherwise trillions of dollars of currency exchanges would been taxed each day). Now that El Salvador has accepted Bitcoin as legal tender, an exchange from any fiat currency to Bitcoin is now simply a currency exchange event and therefore not a taxable event.

(#I remember something about the currency having to be recognised by the World Bank or IMF or something - which would automatically have to happen once a sovereign state accepts and uses it as legal tender)

I'm not sure how this would stand up with IRS, HMRC etc but it seems like a plausible defence of not paying taxes on what could be argued to be a currency exchange event - from BTC to fiat.

I wish I could remember where I first heard this idea discussed, but it seemed worth mentioning and perhaps worthy of some further investigation...

Which i sure will do and keep you guys updated on this, of course.
Aside of this, every Satoshi i bought before Feb. 28th 2021 is tax-free if sold for fiat, unless i sell before 1st of Mar. 2022. Then the "old" regulation applies (added to income tax). So let BTC moon until Feb 28th next year and i can get in with the majority of fiat and only pay with Bitcoin in the future.
* OutOfMemory dreams on...  Cool

Can you sell and buy back before the tax is implemented, so you realize the gains already?

Yes, as long as i only sell the portion of my stash that was bought no less than one year before the actual law will be put in effect (2022/03/01)
