Are we just dismissing 2021 because it wasn't a "massive explosion in price"? So we're now only going to sit up when price goes... what, x10? $300k BTC in 2024?

And oh, price determines Bitcoin fate? Someone forgot to send me the memo, I've been using Bitcoin at $68k and at $400. How unfashionable of me and all the people I know using Bitcoin!
1523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Not your keys, Not your coins" is not enough on: July 03, 2023, 02:28:07 PM
Agree in principal, but I actually might advise the regular user, if choosing to liquidate, to go for a CEX -- depending on where they're from and which CEX we're talking about. US or UK? Go for Coinbase, for example, and benefit from some state protections if things go wrong with the exchange.

And most regular people might also need to account for tax and insurance on their post-crypto wealth. A CEX might make that life easier.

It's hard enough to get people to safeguard their coins with sole custody. Getting them to then use P2P with low liquidity and multiple steps for errors without protection is a next step farther down the line.

As a lot of users already mention, we're trying to understand that people want ease and assurance. Bisq, etc. tend to scare people away (if suggested too soon).

You have 10 points already from 4 rounds so you only need 3 more win and a draw to finish above top 10 mathematically.

No doubt you've been playing weak opponents ( No offense but banter must be served), you need to test your team against mine...   Grin

Ah, so since I still have to meet you, then I only need to worry about 2 more wins and a draw Wink

Nicely done on the F1 question, we tied for 6 points as the most in Div 1 (I note Cro2 combo also manage 6 each), I have sweaty palm syndrome the last 4 rounds, wondering when my luck will run out.

Jinetics111 is powering through though, he has 7 points this round!

It takes some time for the payout script to run and then the cache needs to update again to show your winnings. I think you looked at that after it was marked as paid out but before your payout was reflected.

And so it did, indeed. Thank you for taking the time to explain that. I'd checked probably in the same hour and cache needed updating -- it now shows the winnings -- proving that the estimate was actually correct.

Not much to shout about, but the Golden Ticket was all that I was after so I'm golden Wink

Nice call on the podium finish for Perez, coinlocket$! And I think CLS63 getting the winner wrong but making up for it with that fantastic podium bonus is well worth the 2 extra points for yellow cap.

I slipped down a ranking, 2 points off the leader yet again so I'm just hanging on here, thought I was actually being smart mixing it up with Hammie and Alonso on podium, and Ocon not in top 10 took precious points off me. Not a single position bonus this round too.

Thank you and I hope you don't manage to spoil my streak.  Grin  I'm trying to be active around here as much as possible. Because the league is going on really excitingly and it is nice share some ideas about it. Maybe I'm on a solid winning streak but the points are still very close in top places. It looks like it won't be easy for anyone to finish the season in the lead.

It's a 14-man league, and an average of 21 points will put you in the top half of the table, which is exactly everyone's goal. You already have 12 points after just 4 rounds, and with 10 more to go, you only need three more wins to hit the point average for the season, which is a really bad ass move. I've won one of my last three games, and I'm currently looking for a "YES" for the F1 game to earn my second win of the season before playing you next week.

Although the odds are stacked against me, this is a must-win situation for me.

Didn't calculate and on the move now so can't really look back but I think I finished a point above relegation last season, or one extra position above it anyway. That is my main goal, to get the points to safety, then play a bit more relaxed.

Think I started similarly before too, though. Got a few good wins then took risks and failed in the last few games. So maybe best to just stick to being "regular" for majority of picks. Seems to be working out so far.

Not good that past opponents are bottom teams anyway, so I had "easy" fixtures at first. No offence ha ha

That's a massive bet for 0 return lol. But if the odds are advertised at 1.01, you normally would get 50,000 satoshis extra in return. I can understand the bet to get the lambo ticket and the risk was very low, but I still would never bet anymore on these low odds but that's another discussion  Wink.

I knew the risk. The sats I have on this site are what I'd call "free money". Just sitting there for fun and to try get that GT just putting in a ticket or so every draw.

That's not why I made that post. My point is, the estimate is a wee bit misleading Wink

@buwaytress if my assumption is correct then you wagered at the very end and that’s where Freebitco differs from other gambling sites i.e. their time weight multiplier is kinda complicated because once I had wagered a small amount and the calculator showed me a higher amount  but after winning the amount was very less and that’s when I understood it’s a totally different concept. Furthermore I’m not complaining because it’s yet a fun way to gamble and the more early start you have the better and for next time try wagering early for higher returns.

I get it. I think I put my bet in with 6+ days to go. Even with the estimate and the time/weight multiplier (which was positive), I expected a large margin of error in the calculation. But zero sats from an estimated 5,000 sats is not even 0.02% of the estimate -- that, really, is all I'm pointing out Wink

I'm not complaining, consider this goodwill feedback.

^ Watford was the first ever kit I got, before they got Staked, back all those years ago meeting the super guys in Doha. Those guys are always more than nice... you get promised one thing, you get two, or ten things.

Not kidding I got quite a bit of commentary on the Arsenal jacket I received (and already slightly overworn). Saints kit and Arsenal away kit later on also getting a lot of wear from my kid. He's so lucky...

Ey man i recently see this.

Well im not only share with Messi Argentina we also share the same city. The last weekend he was here for his birthday and for the farewell game of Maxi Rodriguez.

The best moment its clearly the whole world cup. And in term of club football i think it was when he score 92 goals in a calendar year.

Maxi's farewell? I missed that. World Cup was awesome, Messi or not, I loved most of the games (even the one they lost, except that I didn't bet on Saudi, so I still feel like an idiot as I usually go for broke on first few underdogs).

But what about THE moment? There must be one memory of a few seconds or even half a second (like Robbo's slap on his head haha) that says everything you remember and love about him Wink
1531  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin pumping when the economy is heading into a recession? on: July 01, 2023, 03:03:03 PM
Not even the institutional guys know where the economy is actually heading. There was a large likelihood of recession in '22 Q4, and in Q1 '23, and there hasn't been a technical recession. I wouldn't be so quick to say that we're reading into a recession even though it's the speculative notion. Best way to describe the economy now is uncertainty. Perhaps a lot of the institutional guys don't know where to put their funds and pooling their resources into crypto to ride out a recession in case one does actually happen but that's as speculative as the recession talk.

Who knows?

The institutional guys rely on advisors, just like everyone else. In fact, those who listen to the best advice, from as diverse and as many advisors they can afford, and then hedge all over with different advise, generally do the best.

Institutionals who think they can rely on their genius (aka luck) generally end up gambling, and losing.

See FTX and the cohort of 2022 Chapter 11s (and equivalents).

Now I don't really bet much on Freebitcoin, but I did want to get a Lambo ticket just before one of the price bets expired. So I dumped 500k sats on the FUN price option. I saw that odds were extremely low at 1.01 but I also saw that there were actually quite a number of other bets on all other options, so I thought, nah you know what, I want that Lambo ticket.

Bet settled today and not even 1 sat profit haha.

I know, I know, commissions and all that but the system "estimate" probably needs to be a lot more accurate than showing 1.01 if it's not even 1.00001, don't you think? Just my heartfelt feedback Wink

Right, so basketball was something I didn't really know how to pick, but I made Canada my semifinal pick deliberately. I knew they would finish 3rd in their group, but their score average was quite high in Group A. Aaaand I thought they would be better players than Turkey, the opponent I thought they'd get in QF. Switched off the score when Turkey got a 12-0 lead ha so my hope there is over. So much for trying to get smart.

Good for me, my opponent will only get 2 correct max (USA and either France/Serbia who play each other later). I already have one from Spain, so we will at worse, draw this question, giving me the victory this round.

Phew!

Oh wow we should have make a bet for all off them dangg  Grin thank you I picked Yes and My opponent picked no I believe  Smiley The Strogest is a nice name for a team actually.  I like Pumas, Grasshoppers and Limon as a team names aswell  Grin

My team when I played amateur league in my capital was actually called Grasshoppers, but I understood at the time, this was a sort of relic from our founder's original local team in Switzerland. Back then I was not really too exposed about football outside but we also had funny names for amateur teams -- usually once it goes semipro then it adopts a city/town name because of funding.

My futsal team of my closest friends, we played for years, was "Borneo Headhunters". I use that name on my FPL =D
1534  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Your rate in betting base on odds alone? on: June 30, 2023, 12:36:31 PM
I think no one on earth has a reliable profit win rate for 1.5 odds (you need to win 2 out of 3 just to break even). Much better to go for closer to 2/1 odds on games you're very certain about, or using some kind of price boost. I don't normally go for them except on big games where I want to pad another more important match.

Sportsbet has a daily price boost that gets 1.8 to 2/1, that's where I'd bet my daily big bets. In fact, even without the price boosts, they tend to have better odds than Stake (which is where I'm assuming you bet).

Juice is so important, every little small percentage edge adds up, so it makes sense to shop around.
1535  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ Italian Serie A ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread 2022/2023 on: June 30, 2023, 09:28:56 AM
Just checking in here to see how we're all doing for new season. I'll probably need to check in La Liga too, to sort of drum up support and remind people to get some money ready for new pools, yeah?

Season starts a week after EPL -- it feels like we have to wait longer and longer now for season starts (in my mind it's always July) so maybe it's just my hold on calendar start but apparently this is actually an early start for Italy. Which explains why the new schedule isn't out yet.

It can't be Napoli again, too soon to talk about Juve's relegation and Lazio wild card?

1536  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: June 30, 2023, 07:33:47 AM
Papa Steve, uncles jeremypwr and hilarious, thank you all. Really special news to hear, and a whole lot to play for. As KTChampions says that 3 mbtc freebet can be serious money if played properly, it's all you need to win to get your entry fee back. $15,000+ pot. Who'd have thought this would grow so much, eh?

Now, if I could only look into the crystal ball and see if Luton Town will do well early on. 42 days till kickoff -- I'm ready to pay!

Man you guys, so quick. VAR. Love it. Don't worry if implementation is shit, experimentation tends to be high on the shit count Wink Though with your track record, I don't have any reason to think it will be.

The recap and update on Sportsbet. Love it even more (only read it today haha). I actually remembered to go on Clubhouse TV chat today but seems like there was no session -- maybe tomorrow?

About keeping updates and news secret? Now I even don't mind giving tips on the forum (like someone did with de Minaur) -- because I could also be naughty and give a bad tip. Hint, hint, watch out guys...

buwatress, you're not opening my messages because I don't have any boobs?

Ah, I already read them on my notification (I get PMs to my email also, the magic of tech!) so I didn't even open them on forum. I might have even avoided reading the email msg if you did have boobs... I got your sidebet money, don't worry it will be put to bad use.
1538  Economy / Speculation / Re: Microstrategy buys again! on: June 29, 2023, 07:57:20 PM
No surprise. After they (the board, whoever it was also in control of assets) didn't stop him from buying even more when he almost got margin called all those months ago, I fully expected him to continue in fashion.

I know it's not precisely on-topic, but I'm actually much more interested in how much Bitcoin the Norwegian sovereign fund added along the years. Been at least a couple of years since they made the news. Or did they sell at the 2021 peak?
1539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A bitcoin retirement plan with a disturbing length of years. on: June 29, 2023, 03:26:49 PM
When you've got a kid who's 18 and ready to shoot off to college/uni with all kinds of expenses racking up, along with inflation, coupled with parents reaching ripe golden age that also requires increasingly taxing medical expenses -- and you don't come from a welfare state (I'm guessing the way you phrase retirement without a mention of pension means you're not from one), then 16 years is not disturbing, it's probably the least you can do to be responsible.

Personally, I hope I have a long and healthy life to be DCA-ing in 2040 but 20% of salary should set him up for life.

What's disturbing for me is if it's all-in. I'm all for Bitcoin but I'd really recommend setting aside even 10% of his salary for a sizable insurance/pension plan while he's not too old to get one. Too risky to just dump everything into Bitcoin, really.
1540  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏁🏎️ Sportsbet.io🏁 FORMULA 1 2023 Season🏁🏎️Prediction Pool Discussion Thread on: June 29, 2023, 12:38:41 PM
Another easy day for RB, does that mean a 1-2 finish for them as well though? Really tempted to pick that finish but for now am putting Perez just off the podium in favour of Hammie. Have also been wrongly predicting Mercedes big wins so this time, I hope to get that right, one on podium and Russell to come close.

Am completely basing this off arbitrary understanding of the Austrian track and that Max does well there heh heh.
