1562  Economy / Speculation / Re: Taking a loan to buy bitcoin on: January 16, 2015, 06:33:03 AM
everyone knows its extremely volatile new age technology  and will rise again ,the only question is when ......

1563  Economy / Speculation / Re: volatility of bitcoin vs. fiat on: January 16, 2015, 05:56:46 AM
And now the price of Bitcoin is less than 200 USD. Why?

Market psychology.

Try to explain please.

too many trolls spreading FUD on every thread
if you were to beleive them and btc is  really doomed and never will be worth more than zero etc
why do they hang out here all day ?

complete scam artists hoping to convince people to sell low so they can affords to buy in .................lolz
1564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The sad truth about Bitcoin on: January 15, 2015, 10:36:23 AM
i think i am in the mid range class of btc
i am not a whale but i have a decent amount ,certaintly more than crumbs
1565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - MintpalJustice.com - Report Missing Funds on: January 15, 2015, 10:30:00 AM
Looks like not much progress happened, hopefully the court will do something soon.

has any court in the history of the world ever recovered crypto for 'victims?'

mintpal had a terms of service that said they were not responsible for losses.

Losses on investments, not theft.

all they have to do  is claim they were  "hacked" and that will probably be the end of it
loses are loses
seems like almost every week someone scams millions of dollars of btc and practically nothing ever comes of it
the law needs a long time to catch up with innovation .........most judges would have a clue what a bitcoin is

If they stole the money themselves or they were hacked, they would still have to pay back to their users all the same, right?

If I loan money to someone and he gets robbed he still has to pay back, right?

Intentional theft obviously means more jail time than losing the money because of incompetence, but it shouldn't effect whether they have to refund or not.

if there was a hack i presume ryan doesnt have the 5 ,000+ btc to pay back etc and has no way to get them
so what can a judge really do to him apart from a token sentence for negligence ?

if there was a way for the judge to prove he still has them he could order them returned but thats almost  impossible

if my boss gave me a million dollars to bring to the bank and i get robbed on the way there by two guys with guns am i still  responsible ?

you cant get blood out of a stone no matter what so i think this is another gox style waste of time although id like to see him punished and everyone refunded
i think the chances of it are around zero
1566  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: January 14, 2015, 09:29:52 PM
with the volatility those btc could be worth 2-3 million usd  in a few yrs

thats the differnce Smiley

Yeah could. But cashing out, go to the casino and bet all on red has a higher chance of winning (49.9%)

49.9 % ? what game is that ? roulette wheel has 1/2  white stripes too so i think its not as close to 50% after the house edge

i think btc could raise by 5000%

#wait and see Smiley
1567  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: January 14, 2015, 09:17:21 PM
Just to recap the facts... the home value was ~$400,000 and the OP traded it for 648 BTC

At the current pricing the OP now has ~$117,000 in BTC

but property is stable ,if we kept the house he would have minimal predictible gains
with the volatility those btc could be worth 2-3 million usd  in a few yrs

thats the differnce Smiley
1568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The sad truth about Bitcoin on: January 14, 2015, 08:38:06 PM
it went from being worthless to 30 odd usd rapidly
and then plunged back to 2 usd
and eventually rose to 1200
im not worried ,its relaitively new technology ,it will take awhile to catch on
1569  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: January 14, 2015, 06:48:28 PM
I sure hope he didn't lose everthing... Bitcoin was a bit higher in the past... Cry

If he sold the house around 800$ and the price is now 300$ he lost 5/8th of its value but he said he would not have been able to sell the house if it wasn't for bitcoins (which I doubt is true)

He sold the house on the 7th March 2014, when exchange price dropped from 660$ to 620$. Right now it's about 180$, this must have hurt (if he still holds coins and cares about price).

hodl them until next year or longer  Wink
1570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Moolah Scam on Mintpal - MintpalJustice.com - Report Missing Funds on: January 14, 2015, 06:46:05 PM
I gladly had not much funds in mintpal, i think around half a btc in total in coins for sale
I guess its gone forever but i will donate a small amount to catch this criminal

It might be a good idea to wait before donating though, to be sure if MintpalJustice is truly serious about this project and if they have a chance to get the funds back.

I am skeptical over this situation as a whole.  Seems like there is at least 10,000 people involved, and there is ONE place to donate towards a legal cause involving ONE person, and Alex Green.  Not trying to say it's not legit, but with this many people out money I don't see how these accounts are not involved in the legal proceedings...Moolahs twitter account that keeps promising that people have been paid out when 0 reports of anyone actually receiving the $.... The whole thing is a shady scenario and I don't buy any of it.  Could be wrong, and don't mean to deflame anyone who has work/time/money invested into the recovery process, but there seems to be 0 verification anything is happening on any side.  A whole bunch of finger pointing..... Transparency is just not there through any of this and I know this stuff takes time, but time is passing, and nothing is being released to the public to the people who lost $, so it looks to me like donations are going to recovery of funds back to Mintpal, which doesn't even ensure anyone else is to be repaid...

Any clarification out there for a skeptical like me?

the money is gone. it was spent on booze, drugs, travel, and hookers...lots and lots of hookers...

recovering money that has been spent on hookers is tough.

all he has to say is he was "hacked" from a few million dollars of coins  and if there is a reasonable doubt
he will not be convicted of any theft

until exchanges are insured  and people are held accountable i wont be using them

karpeles "lost" around 800,000 btc as well as shittonnes of cash and nothing much  is happening to him
1571  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitStamp - hacked and down on: January 14, 2015, 04:39:53 PM
so do you think bitstamp will recover from this at all or no? we dont have anymore exchanges left besides btc-e and that site is horrible.

bitfinex, localbitcoins...

Bitstamp seems fine since 19 000 was only a small portion of their holdings.

hard to say theyre fine when they just lost 5.2 million dollars due to most likely due to  lazy security
its not gox but its not chicken feed either
1572  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: January 14, 2015, 04:25:58 PM
honestly ... do you all actually think that the thousands of years of kings and swords and blood and gold and conquest and kings and more gold and swords and castles and religions and wars and conquest and gold and swords and wars and countries and kings and wars and wars and wars and slaves and gold and more wars and ships and slaves and cotton and countries and revolutions and kings and gold and wars and planes and bombs and wars and that allllll of the handful of the worlds wealthy elites who have passed down their wealth through the generations since the dawn of civilization are going to let it all go let all of their money and all of their power go and allow a handful of asshats with laptops who installed an interesting piece of software take their place and supplant their singular position as the rulers of earth ? honestly ?

i dont think btc will ever replace currency ,but there is enough room for both to exist side by side
bitcoin willl be used when you need to send a million dollars somewhere for free or for international market trading
like the new open bazaar thats being developed

digital money is necessary for modern world and will only become more so .......im glad i own some

its got a bright future
20 years ago nobody thought they needed an email address either
i bet most people have one by now though ..............
1573  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am pretty confident we are the new wealthy elite, gentlemen. on: January 11, 2015, 05:42:01 PM
New wealthy elite?  Shocked ahahaha

Talk when/if Bitcoin is ever at 10.000k and i am still holding 200coin then i have a few bob but far from a wealthy elite lol

Wealthy elite own billions we are mere middle class wanna b's

if you only have 200 you will not likely be "elite" in this world
200k though you would be sitting pretty Smiley
1574  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp is open - now with multisig on: January 11, 2015, 05:40:01 PM

looks like the volume went well back over finex in the last 24 hours, should imagine many people panicked and bought BTC to withdraw, expecting them to lose volume next few weeks.

i was watching the ticker during some of the high volume periods, and it looked a lot like huobi. no fee trades, then we start seeing hundreds bought and sold right at the spread within seconds/minutes of each other. and then the price hardly moves until other exchanges move. no fees = can't trust the volume.

if the exchange wanted to make it look like a high volume of trading was going on they could move funds around  to new  wallets they own anyway and nobody but them would know their not legitimate trades

(thats if they wanted to fake their trading volume )
1575  Economy / Speculation / Re: 100.000$ investment on: January 10, 2015, 08:26:27 AM
the reality is that 100k is not much for a lot of people

i think he could easily triple it or more if he can afford to wait a couple of years (maybe a lot sooner though as weve all seen how fast it can rise when it does rise  )
if its money you have lying around in some bank making  i would certaintly go for it
if you need to borrow money or expect a fast return on it i would not advise it

all depends on your financial circumstances and timeframe
1576  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitstamp will easily recover from this hack on: January 09, 2015, 11:00:21 PM
OP was right, seems to be going smoothly now. I hope

seems like they can continue ,the only question is whether thyre doing it in fractional reserve style or they
have an excess of coins of cover everyone if necessary ..........
1577  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp most likely will buy back the bitcoins they lost on: January 09, 2015, 10:32:27 PM
The thing is, Stamp has to say it will reopen shortly, whatever the situation. If they have actually lost far more and will go bust, they still need to say they will reopen. If they are actually squirreling money off to Brazil, they still need to say they will reopen. If everything is fine and they are about to reopen, they still need to say they will reopen. There is no situation where they would say otherwise.
Right.

The same reasoning applies after they reopened. We don't know if they have enough capital of their own to cover the $5M loss.

without any proof nobody knows any  details of this hack
how many coins were stolen ?
how many are left in storage etc  ?
were they bailed out by VC partner or was there enough in stamps bank to cover it ?
how can we trust a new system after a couple of days of testing that it wont be exploited like the old system was?
i can understand them not wanting to reveal how exactly how  the hack worked although it would be nice to know to make sure
they have fixed it properly etc and if it was something like a weak password or whatever thats kinda inexcusible for an exchange holding hundreds of millions
of usd

1578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp is open - now with multisig on: January 09, 2015, 09:59:27 PM
the bitstamp team showed the world that there is no goxxing around no more.

they deserve credit for handling the mess like pro's.

hasta lässt victoria siempre- bitcoin !

 Cool

gox alledgedly lost/stole   around 750,000 btc as well as tens of millions of dollars
its a big differnce when the hack is only 18,700 btc  and btcs are relatively cheap now in usd terms
1579  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp is open - now with multisig on: January 09, 2015, 09:37:27 PM
Multi-sig is great for individual customers and protecting their individual coins on the exchange, but how does one protect against theft of their protected coins from theft on the exchange (causing them to shut down and take your money)?

how could they take your money without having your key as well ?
it maybe in their posession but they couldnt spend it without your key and you couldnt spend it without theirs
as far as thats how i understand they have implemented it but maybe there is another way ?
1580  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's your action once Bitstamp reopens? on: January 09, 2015, 09:14:32 PM
price went up 20usd in the last 5min lol
