For the history buffs, it is thought that Justinian plaque (most likely caused by plaque bacteria- Yersinia pestis) finished the Roman empire.

i thought the lead they used to line aqueducts and containers and such had some influence too. long term lead poisoning.

Trump is a billionaire, why would he go to Russia? It doesn't make sense in my opinion. And what about his family? All his kids would have to go to Russia to then. I am pretty sure he wants for his Kids to stay in USA, maybe become president them selfs one day. He owns so many different real estate places in USA, imagine abandoning them. It would all be seized by the government if he does illegal stuff and leaves the country. I don't think so.

many of his business ventures have gone bankrupt and there no gaurentee whatever businesses he owns now wont do the same before the loans are due. seems hes pretty good at losing money.

as for his kids, im sure setting up a trump dynasty to rule the usa has occurred to him. but his own skin may mean more.

Can’t get more Flemish as I am.....

OK. In that case, before launching those nukes, let's check the wind direction to avoid any fallout in the north.

that wind cant reach Mars so we need to get on musk to move things along.

well he did (supposedly) want to sell Puerto Rico as a write off after it got wacked by hurricane maria so that tracks in a weird trump kinda way.

i feel safer already
1676  Other / Politics & Society / if trump loses will he sell the USA out on: October 12, 2020, 10:18:26 AM
so heres trump with years worth of classified info in his head. and hes on the hook for 300+ million bucks in loans personally guaranteed by him to come due in the next several years. to someone(s) unknown.

so say he loses. that classified info likely worth far more than that. so he goes to his master, putin, sells it and lives a life of relative luxury in russia. or sells to the highest bidder(s) and just splits to a non extradition country.

plausible? he certainly seems to value his own skin more than the usa or its citizens. i figure he will sell us out in a new york minute.
1677  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2FA app on desktop on: October 11, 2020, 03:27:13 PM
Also, viruses cannot simply be infecting on a person's device without him doing unsafe and unsecured activities, both online and offline.

zeroday exploits and custom written virus/malware are a thing and can catch even the most seasoned and safety conscious IT people unaware.

Therefore, you can be "safe" if and only if you have genuine antivirus and programs installed on your device,

having AV doesnt gaurentee safely. custom written virus and  malware plus zerodays get by easily. it helps but it is a combination of awareness, knowledge and safe computing practices thats best. and even then you can get a virus.

the name of the game is layered security to reduce the risk. and for that education goes a long ways.

1678  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2FA app on desktop on: October 11, 2020, 12:29:43 PM
That is not necessarily safe, what if our PC is infected with a virus.

yubikeys are read only devices. they are immune to badusb (which can infect many general purpose usb based devices) and other such malware. so they are safe to use even if the computer its plugged into tries to compromise it.
1679  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 2FA app on desktop on: October 11, 2020, 12:25:33 PM
There are no known vulnerabilities to using it for 2FA from a device point of view. The whole point of a hardware wallet is that you can plug it in to the most malware infected and insecure computer in the world, and your private keys will remain safely stored on the device. There is certainly a risk if you are carrying your hardware wallet around with you to use as a 2FA key in a public place, however. With both Ledger and Trezor you advertise that you own crypto and potentially make yourself a target, and with Trezor devices, if you lose it or it is stolen the seed phrase can be extracted.

But still for those who doesn't have any hardware wallets, YubiKeys are much cheaper if a user just wanted 2FA.
Cheaper and simpler.

yubikeys are also easier to explain as to why you have one. could be for work, for logging into a bank etc as they are used that way too. nothing related to crypto in other words.

1680  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump has covid sooo: on: October 10, 2020, 02:41:43 PM
Obviously this is not going to happen and it seems be designed to aggravate Trump and perhaps to provoke him to say more stupid things. Not that it's really necessary - he's been sabotaging his own re-election for months.

[...]
It may put some Republicans in a bad position if they're facing their own re-election and are forced to either praise Trump or face his wrath.

this pretty much. its to add more fuel to trumps already steroid enriched rage based election campaign. forcing republicans to choose sides is a nice bonus.

methinks it will take decades for the GOP to recover from this, assuming biden wins and the democrats take back the senate too.
