1681  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk Ebay Policy...and other third party sites... on: February 03, 2014, 03:44:50 PM
Wanted to check in with message board brass on this before posting links.  I have several listings on Ebay that I would like to offer up to the BTC community, but not sure if posting Ebay links is frowned upon at Bitcointalk?  Or linking to other sites that have items listed for sale in general?  Would posting a link to my listings violate any policies, or are we good to post as needed?  I'll have several items of value and interest that I'd like to make available going forward as well.

Reason for wanting to link rather than starting new sale listings in the marketplace goods section is that listings are already fully-baked and well presented elsewhere...better to link than attempt to duplicate.  Thank you for your assistance and guidance.

I guess it is okay to do so.
Just don't spam your links by making dozen of posts every boards.
1682  Other / Meta / Re: Refunded Everyone on: February 03, 2014, 03:37:36 PM

I did that in the past, i scammed 2 btcs, but someone was selling btcs for usd and i bought two of them for 220 usd, but scammed him, techically i stealed 220 usd not 2 btcs.. so in this case the correct would be to return the 220 usd not the btcs right?

Is it really good to share this story?
I hope the one being scammed is not here reading your post lol.  Wink

1683  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Waiting for more than 4 months for my money (from MtGox) - what next? on: February 03, 2014, 03:34:16 PM
There is a thread "MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering]", in which you can find loads of people having the same problem as you. You may find more info there.

I have no idea in the authority in Japan, and couldn't help you for that part. Sad
1684  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Localbitcoins - buyer asked to release coins immediately ? on: February 03, 2014, 03:32:28 PM

What are your views?  Am I being over cautious here???

Don't release it until you can see the money in your account.
Even if the buyer is having a good record, he could turn to the dark side anytime. Tongue
1685  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is MtGox dying? on: February 03, 2014, 03:23:40 PM

How can we invest in a "project" with no details proposed by a newly registered forum account with only 1 post?
1687  Economy / Speculation / Re: Each time i sold i lost on: February 03, 2014, 02:59:56 PM
Every time i sold ( trying to rebuy cheaper ) because most of the topics where talking about capitulation, China ban, Russia ban, etc, etc, etc, finished loosing.

Don't listen to those FUDs and don't panic sell your bitcoin Wink
There is no ban in China and Russia.  Smiley
1688  Economy / Speculation / Re: January 31st, the Downfall of Bitcoin on: February 03, 2014, 02:58:55 PM
The Chinese "forgot" to shutdown the banking network funding bitcoins in China, according to confirmed sources.

 Wink
Indeed, Chinese people can now buy bitcoin easily with bank wire again. Cheesy
1689  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin will always be speculative because the price is "found" not mandated on: February 03, 2014, 02:48:30 PM
with deep enough markets though it should still be pretty stable.

Find me something where the price is "mandated" - everything fluctuates, including fiat currencies, and therefore all products priced in those currencies. Fixed price is an illusion.

CNY (RMB) price is mandated  Wink
USD/HKD and MOP/HKD rates can only fluctuate within a very short region due to the "linked exchange rate system".  Smiley
1690  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin exchange BTC China starts accepting deposits again on: February 03, 2014, 02:40:37 PM

Good luck Smiley

But seriously, you shouldn't put all your money into just one investment...

1692  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are BTC prices not moving ? on: February 03, 2014, 02:29:11 PM
Seems to quiet for me, I'd rather have it rising or falling.

So you'd rather lose money than it remain stable and quiet?

Of late BTC prices seem to have just been stuck ... why is it not moving up or down like earlier ?

Isn't a steady price what we want? A wildly fluctuating price is counter-productive to BTC as a currency. However, I'm sure the price will change on the back of some good/bad news. Patience is all that's needed here.

Well yea we want some stability but not for sooo long .. im sure everybody remembers the daily fluctuations we used to have ... now it just feels like ages have past (relatively in the crypto world) without much of a movement in prices.

Why do we not want stability? If you want to use it as a currency then this is great.
Exactly. If we want more people to start using bitcoin as a mean of exchange instead of just speculative investment the value has to be somewhat stable. Of course when more people start using it it should push the price up, which makes this a little paradoxical situation. I'd like to see a steady rise in the value driven by more people and companies _using_ bitcoin. That way the rise would have some kind of foundation.

Maybe paradoxical, but a slow and steady growth would be better as opposed to wild fluctuations. This is the thing that scares off merchants.

Very much agree. We don't really want the price to go up/down 20% everyday.
1693  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A breakdown of how to release a crypto currency on: February 03, 2014, 02:21:22 PM
How to make a new coin? Easy.

1. Pay 0.05btc to coingen
2. There is no step 2.  Wink

But, seriously, we have already got lots and lots of clone coins, and we don't really need more.
1694  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Blockchain takes seconds to download? on: February 03, 2014, 02:14:05 PM
If you are using a thin wallet (Electrum or Multibit), you only need to download the block headers (~22MB) instead of all the block data (~16GB).
1695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: BitcoinQt shows different balance than blockchain.info on: February 03, 2014, 02:10:23 PM
Hello everybody,

As the title says, bitocoinQt shows another account balance than blockchain.info..I thought I understood how bitcoins work, but
this really screws with my head.

I know from the transactions I made, that my balance should be above 14BTC, and that what bitcoinQt tells me. If I sum up all the transactions,
which are shown by bitcoinQt, I get a balance of  14.6380, but if I sum up all transactions from blockchain.info I get a balance of  12.2629.

How is that possible?
A few days ago I made a transaction of 0.2 BTC according to blockchain.info, another 2.3BTC got transferred together with those 0.2.
BitcoinQt shows, that only  0.2BTC were transferred from my account.
Can anybody tell me whats going on??

blockchain.info link:

Thanks in advance!

1696  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PC hacked, QT robbed, MtGox account hacked on the same time- how? on: February 03, 2014, 02:07:50 PM
Almost seems like some sort of RDP or VNC type remote access...Could you ask Mt.Gox support if they can trace IP address matching that particular withdrawal transaction? I just wonder if IP address will match public IP of your friend's router or it's an external IP.

You've obviously not tried Gox support recently ... they don't even spend time doing normal stuff they should do, like processing withdrawals.

USD withdrawal delays are considered normal in mtgox lol  Wink
1697  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet Question!.... Important, have I done anything wrong? on: February 03, 2014, 02:02:16 PM
I created 4 wallets in Electrum.
Now I am sending the money from the market maker to my own wallets to be more secure.
I have written down the seeds, addresses and will store in a vault.

For backup, you only need to write down the seeds (12 words).
All the private keys, public keys and addresses can be restored with just the seeds.

Of course, if you want to send bitcoin to your wallets, you can write down your addresses as well.

However..... I started to send some Bitcoins to my wallets and...... After some Bitcoins all the addresses seem to change in the wallet. Am I doing something wrong? I have sent 1 Bitcoin so far. I sent back and forth. But the receiving addressses in the Electrum Wallet changed and the first receiving address no longer appear.

Can I securely keep on sending the first receiving address Bitcoins - or will it go into the dark hole of something?

I noted the first address of the wallets and send all of the wallets to these first addresses - but addresses seem to change.

Now - what to do? I will send some more 18 Bitcoins and can not risk. What do you advise me to do?

I printed down the first addresses of the initial status of all the wallets - can I send to first address of them although they no longer appear?

Abdussamad is right.

You can use the same address again and again, and will not pose any security issue.
But, once you spend the bitcoin on an address, I would suggest you to not use that address again, as the public key (not to be confused with private key) will be known to the world.

If you want to try mining with your CPU, you should try some CPU-only coins.
