1123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I will tip anyone who can help me. Thank you for making bitcoin trusted and safe on: February 10, 2014, 01:55:45 AM
Does this have to do with the recent Bitcoin Ban for Russia?

Probably not related....
I have seen quite a number of complaint posts about btc-e for the past month...

Since you are in USA, the best choice should be coinbase....
1125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not a noobie but this is my first post here. on: February 10, 2014, 01:49:23 AM
Cool  I have been lurking here for awhile and thought I would finally post.  My 4 boxes incorporate 12 cards.  6 X R9 280x cards, 4 X 7950s, one 7770 and one 7650.  My OS's include Linux (Debian and Xubuntu) and Windows 8, running GUIminer on W8 box and cgminer on the rest.  I'm having fun with this project and if I can pay equipment costs I will be happy.  Everything else is gravy not to mention the exposure it has given me to Linux.  I look forward to posting in the forums and contributing.  On a sidenote I made my first purchase at overstock.com and couldn't be happier with the experience.  GO BITCOIN!!

Welcome, ratedmmm Smiley

As all you got are GPUs, I hope you are mining scrypt coins and then selling them for bitcoin, instead of mining bitcoin directly... Smiley
1126  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it too late for poor people to start mining? Jan2014 on: February 10, 2014, 01:27:24 AM
Hi Sonny
Thanks for your reply.
I have been and had a look at the profit calculators and I don't understand what they are telling me. I inputed what I thought were the correct figures based on what my limited understanding allows and all I saw were profit figures in red with a - sign in front. To me that says this will never make a profit and you've done your dough ... is that correct ?

You are welcome.
Yup, you are right. It is very unlikely for you to get your investment back....

I don't understand, without any kind of warning whatsoever?

correct - no warning whatsoever

hmmm....another complaint post about btc-e banning accounts without reason...
This is really bad....
1129  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No "reply" button in threads? I can't reply...why is this? on: February 09, 2014, 10:43:25 PM
Do you have to post then sit at that same post for 4 hours?

Nope, read my post above yours. There is no newbie restrictions now.

And then I read the post stating coin give aways are forbidden.

Yup, all the altcoin giveaway thread is locked now.
After all, this is bitcointalk, not altcointalk.
1130  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Child's Wallet and whitelisting on: February 09, 2014, 10:40:59 PM
For the sake of completeness, I wanted to report how the install/whitelist went. Actually, it was easier than expected.

I use the built-in Parental Controls on the Mac, which allow whitelisting of domains/ip addresses. But although it works through any app, I figured out that it only blocks port 80 (and I assume port 443). So when I installed MultiBit and ran it under my son's restricted login, it just asked me to open up access to multibit.net and bitstamp.net (for the exchange rate listing). The peers automatically connected using port 8333 without any need for tinkering on my part.

My son was very excited when I sent him .00273 BTC after I set it up for him (I owed him about $2 for something and he wanted it paid in Bitcoin).

Thanks for the help everyone!

Thanks for reporting back.
Yay, we have a new bitcoiner Cheesy

1133  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: bitlaunder.com = SCAM! on: February 09, 2014, 10:35:51 PM
OMG now we launder BTC?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore!

why is it so hard to have a wallet on the pc at home one on phone and go to an internet cafe instal a btc wallet send the coins from phone to that wallet and then back to another address you own!

set up a small blog where you ask for donations

problem sloved!

It's not really "laundering," in the sense people think it is. Read my earlier posts. He really should have just called it a mixing service. And there are many wallets/sites that do mixing as it is.

I think I can do a better job than him

but there is still something that doesn't work in my head

for example i have 50000BTC that I mined and I want to make 55000BTC

I offer laundering service to people who need it for a free

After 2 months police is knocking on my door?WTF do I do?

Good question. I don't think that'd happen though. Not really sure.

I mean think about it like this. If you put your money on to an exchange and then withdraw it, it's effectively mixed, right? Are they also at risk then?

Not really! I would tend to say they are not mixed at all! If they ask for ID!

Well, you could use gambling sites instead of exchanges then.
Just deposit your btc to a gambling site, withdraw it, deposit to another gambling site, and withdraw it. Done.
Of course, you would be using proxy / tor to signup those sites.  Wink
1134  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitSonata - Beautiful visualization of the Bitcoin network on: February 09, 2014, 10:31:12 PM
I plan on doing a series of these, themed in different audio-visual experiences.  Here is the first:
www.BitSonata.com

The rain represents the hashrate (though they are not linked).
Thunder and lightning  represent transactions, and scale based on the size of the transaction.
A howling wind represents a new block on the network.

I hope you enjoy.  More to come.

It is pretty cool. Smiley

Does anyone else have any feedback on hash cloudy.  Is it legit?

Im guessing not, Due to lack of posts

no feedback, but it is full and not taking new customers, so maybe it's not too bad

Did a google search just now and found this.

1137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Clueless noob - What can I mine with my current setup? on: February 09, 2014, 10:14:29 PM
Borrowing the thread a little. Is Primecoin/Quarks/Some other CPU coin profitable to mine with that setup?

Probably, but I am not sure.

In case anyone is curious, you can find a list of CPU-only coins here.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=379601.0

According to that list, Primecoin is really CPU-only while Quark is "Limited GPU Mining"....

1139  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merging Wallets on: February 09, 2014, 09:49:02 PM
Bitcoin QT is the wallet I have setup for that wallet file.  How could I go about exporting them?

Click Help -> Debug Window -> Console
If you have password-protect your wallet, enter "walletpassphrase <passphrase> <timeout>".

To export private key of a address, enter "dumpprivkey <bitcoinaddress>"
To import a private key, enter "importprivkey <bitcoinprivkey>"

Please note that, anyone having your private keys will be able to spend your bitcoin, so you should NEVER post it.
1140  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why i can not post now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: February 09, 2014, 09:41:28 PM
I think that you gotta get over some number of posts to be able to post on other boards.

Not anymore, the newbie restrictions were lifted on Jan 20.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=423995.0
New users can now immediately start posting unless they are using suspicious IPs.
