We can just upgrade the protocol slightly which only make the existing ASIC cannot work anymore if we find something bad is being done by the ASIC minners
You guys discuss this as if it were trivial. It isn't. Do some research or something. We already did it once at least twice. If the change itself is trivial but only stop the exiting ASIC with an ergent need to save the Bitcoin network then it should be able to implement fast. Nnnnoooo... the hashing algorithm (SHA256) has never been changed since the inception of Bitcoin. Not once. What has changed are some protocol updates such as P2SH, but those have nothing to do with the core functionality of mining, which is SHA256 hashing. And such changes in the future would not render ASICs useless, since the bits that change are all related to the control software, not the hardware.

Fck, the hacker attempted to login to my email that i used for bitcoinica . Google caught it in time and locked my account.
The IP is from Guam.
Your mail doesn't have 2 factor authentication via google authenticator? I don't think most people use that, unfortunately. I would like to use it, but is there any way to get around the phone number requirement? I don't need Google to have that.

I think the free market is the most over-rated concept in economics. It only works if it has 100% rational players. It doesn't take into account Behavioral Economic Principles.
A glimmer of light!

@rjk: I'll ask you the same question. You're saying a random 6 characters of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols is NOT secure from being guessed in a maximum of 7 tries?
Nope. As has been demonstrated in the past, bitcoin-related services have been hacked repeatedly, resulting in the compromise of user passwords. Even with hash+salt, a 6 character password really isn't that hard to retrieve. The reason I am making something of it is because I am certain that the policy of a generated password with no way for the user to change it is going to result in usability issues, namely that of people not bothering to use the system because they have to write down or remember yet another password. And then you might make a change allowing them to edit their passwords, while allowing 6 chars to be the minimum, and that would be bad practice. Sure, your method is reasonably secure, but it isn't user friendly. EDIT: Also, http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/WishItWas-TwoFactor-.aspx

FWIW, my BFL FPGA's have already paid themselves off, so I won't have to worry about any ASIC payback period whatsoever - no matter how much or how little the payback is, it's still free money.
Lolwhat? Actually, I take that back. They've ALMOST paid themselves off. They will be paid off within a month. Bought 10, sold 6 to pay for 9, and the 10th is still being paid off through mining. So you sold 6 for 50% more price, than new ones? Yeah, apparently people pay that much for them, when they don't have to wait for shipping delays.

will you loose any coins?
can you explain your question? When I update it, will I still have my coins afterword? Why would anyone put out an update to anything that caused directly or indirectly a loss of data or coins for any reason? That's absurd.

Security experts agree a password at least 6 characters long with a mixture of upper and lowercase letters numbers and symbols is very secure.
No. Nno. nononononononooooooooo. NO! Let me guess. You are using MD5 to store passwords, yes? Because some site said it was secure?

Friday will be an announcement regarding the ASICs, not that they will be available. Best case scenario that I'm hoping for is that they release performance information and start accepting pre-orders.
Sure, this is the most likely scenario. Although I had a small glimmer of hope because they made various statements to the effect that SC production was entirely separate from Single/MR production, and wouldn't suffer from similar delays, and etc etc etc. Personally, I'm doubting it, but hey! maybe they can still turn over a new leaf.

Just check the records you are legally compelled to keep safe for 5+ years then you can prove without doubt that she is lying.
You did keep an off-site backup didn't you? Or a paper trail you can reconstruct your records from?
If not you just put yourself in a position where you can't defend yourself from any fake claim.
Well, even if the database is gone, it's fairly trivial to get a list of wires from the bank, a list of transactions from mtgox, and so forth. It's unlikely that there is no record of it, even if she deposited an hour before the hack.

-Hopefully- we might find out on Friday. Wonder if we actually will or not.

So- given the obvious attempt to defraud here...
who says we start a petition to have Maira branded as a SCAMMER until she ponies up the donations she promised to everyone if Zhou Tong send here the 28 cents?
I'd be up for it. It just proves the scummy actions of these 2, only looking to get ahead financially at the cost of all other persons and things.

Does mtgox checkout require 6 confirms? I was expecting it to work like bitpay where it completes as soon as the unconfirmed transaction is seen on the network.
If you sent from your gox wallet, it should be instant, but if you send from a bitcoin address I would assume that they wait for 6 confirms. There isn't any way to adjust it in the gox prefs.

This is great to hear. Off to home depot after work. Box fans for 15 bucks!
lol, it must be great to have cheap power. Don't those things use like 200 watts each? I have no clue.....but that seems really high..... Could be that I'm victim of faulty info. Should be able to check the label though. 1.14A for 2x on low means 68 watts or so each, so that sounds a lot better.

I notice that when I start MPBM (w/ 6 x6500s), performance is in the 2300-2400Mhash range (as reported by my pool).
It's most likely that the pool is being overly optimistic at the beginning.
