Furthermore, let me remind you that Freebitcoin already has more than 50 million users, and it seems to me that now it's hard to find users who are fond of crypto gambling and still haven't heard about this site.

It's harder than it was in the past, but let's not forget that there are new people being born and growing up every day. So it's not like we'll ever achieve a state of everyone being familiar with it.

My personal experience with referrals is that was fairly easy to get new people to sign up, but most of them would not stick around for a long time.
But it's been a while since I was actively promoting freebitco.in, it could be easier now, when the site has much more features and incentives.
1782  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-03-01] Forbes - The Nigerian Election And Naira Crisis Are Fueling Bitcoin on: March 03, 2023, 10:19:14 PM
Because of this deterioration in the Nigerian naira and the high demand, especially by young people, to buy bitcoin, the price of bitcoin in Nigeria has risen to about 38,000$, as I read in some news several days ago.

From what I've read, that's not quite true. I think that was/is a result of converting BTC Naira price into USD at the "official", inflated rate.
Quick search: official rate: 1 USD = 461 NGN; and the "black market" rate: 1 USD = 755 NGN (source)

This makes sense, and essentially means it's not so much that BTC is appreciating in price, but Naira is worth much less than officially declared.

a better/fun visualisation

https://txstreet.com/v/btc

Thanks for sharing, that's a really amusing one. The never-ending low fee line looks pretty scary:

But the median fee is $0.82, so things are not so bad I guess.

Not only this sites is unreliable but also it is a malicious website designed to inflate bitcoin fees to unreasonable levels. It has always been reporting outrageously high fees.
Could be. I think it was the first, or one of the first, websites of this type, so I got it bookmarked. But I remember always paying lower than that without much delay.

Anyone can link me to a reliable site that shows the median, cheapest high priority fee (not just the median fee or sats/vByte), ideally in BTC and in USD? I can't see such option in the links posted above.
1784  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: March 03, 2023, 09:29:12 PM
But I believe that it's important for individuals to make a concerted effort to keep track of their gambling results because it can provide valuable insights into their overall profitability and help them make better decisions about their gambling activity.

The sad reality is that gambling itself is generally a bad decision, as the house always wins in the end. So, at least for the vast majority, the best "decisions about their gambling activity" would be just to stop playing.

And in my case, I think significant losses are more likely to get engraved in my memory than wins.

That's probably good for you. Hopefully, that will prevent you from incurring any future significant losses.
1785  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More Awareness needed, 100$ or Bitcoin??? on: March 03, 2023, 09:20:37 PM
But at least in my opinion the influencers or media indirectly introduce Bitcoin to the public through their content or news.

Oh, for sure. And what's more, this type of videos has a particularly great effect, as they have an element of shaming. People who don't know what the Bitcoin is, or how much is it worth, are made to look stupid and risk others making fun of them.
So if you're completely ignorant of Bitcoin and come across that video on social media, you're more likely than not just to look Bitcoin up and get to know the basics.
1786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool full? Long transaction times + fees x10! on: March 02, 2023, 10:45:04 PM
Take a look até http://mempool.space/ to get the fee rate you need to use, this is the best site available  for that.

Now you need 22 sat/vbyte for a confirmation,  which is not huge.

Not sure how reliable is this one: https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/
But it's currently showing the fastest and cheapest tx to be at 102 sats/byte, which, for median-size tx, converts to >$5, which is quite a lot.

ps. anyone can give a quick explanation on the Byte Vs vByte difference?
1787  Economy / Gambling / Re: Freebitcoin.in on: March 02, 2023, 10:23:46 PM
What's the point of starting this topic OP? Are you trying to run an unofficial freebitcoin thread?

If you have any questions on site's functionality and features - just ask in any of their two official ones:
Gambling: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320959.0
Micro earnings: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=319540.0

I'm sure they could help you there.
1788  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which countries do you think this year will adopt Bitcoin as a Legal tender? on: March 02, 2023, 10:16:13 PM
Small countries adopt Bitcoin as legal tender because they really have no other choice. Their economies are weak thanks to ever-increasing inflation rates. Bitcoin cannot be debased due to the way it was designed, so it proves to be the perfect solution for developing countries trying to battle the negative effects of inflation. We should expect countries within the Latin-American region to make the move soon. The more of them there are, the better for Bitcoin.

Not every small country has hyperinflation you know. Inflation rate in El Salvador is similar (or slightly lower) than in many European countries.
And no sane country will ever replace their national currency with Bitcoin (unless in some financial system collapse emergency scenario), they could only introduce it as an additional legal tender to attract tourists and investors. But you want to be able to control your national currency and you want it to have a small, healthy inflation rate.
1789  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC Chair Gensler confirms "everything other than Bitcoin is a security" on: March 02, 2023, 10:05:57 PM
How exactly is the SEC going to regulate the entire crypto market? Do you really believe that that is somehow possible? What about DeFi? How is SEC going to deal with that, or the cryptos which are already considered securities by the SEC itself? I am not going to worry about the SEC. Nothing but hot air and empty threats. They only go after centralized businesses, if they can. Everything else is unenforceable as with current laws.

Enforcing laws fully against crypto would take a global dictatorship. Nothing less.

But you need a centralised business to be able to trade crypto for fiat and the other way around. Even with stablecoins, there are central entities that hold the deposits that back the coins.
So SEC don't really care about DeFi but they could get you when you want to cash out.
The major argument for overregulation is that it could put the entire sector outside of US to more friendlier countries, with US citizens just trading there bypassing US laws. But if all of the top countries become strict on crypto - that could be a problem.
1790  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: March 02, 2023, 09:47:50 PM
I don't think this math checks out unless you have many rolls, not just the one. You cannot really calculate the statistical sum of the profits with a single dye roll. Just like you cannot calculate the average mean with only a single number as that would make the number the average mean itself and calculating it has no point. That just seems a bit silly, to be honest.

There is no need to calculate EV here. Its a one time thing, so either you win or you lose. The chances of winning is around 17%.

I would take the bet with twice the amount as a regular dice game. That seems like a reasonable amount. But I would be wary of betting more, as the large winnings do not have any effect on the probability. Its still the same chance of winning as in a regular dice game.

This was already discussed earlier in this thread, i.e. >here<

EV is a wider concept than just calculating long-run winnings. Quick explanation:

- you would take a one-time coin-flip bet when for $1 wager you could win $100
- you wouldn't take such bet if for $1 wager you could only win $0.10

Why? You'd assess its EV, probably without realising it. All the relevant factors that you need to make a decision are the same as those used in the EV formula.

And, as also discussed, even with millions of bets, the actual result can deviate from the EV quite significantly.

The recent economic cash crisis in Nigeria, caused by the naira redesign, political climate, and economic conditions, has increased bitcoin's value proposition for average Nigerians. In Africa, bitcoin offers an indispensable financial safe haven.

Key Facts:
  • The naira redesign has exacerbated the current economic hardship faced by Nigerians and increased pressure on the unbanked.
  • Nigerians headed to the polls on Saturday to decide the next leader of Africa’s largest democracy, with economic challenges being top of mind.
  • Given the current economic climate, bitcoin is viewed by many Nigerians—especially amongst the younger generation—as a safe haven for both the underbanked and unbanked as economic conditions worsen.

If you’ve been paying attention to the crypto industry for the last few weeks, you’ve probably seen headlines related to the controversy over NFTs on the Bitcoin blockchain. Some passionate members of the Bitcoin community are upset over this development and are strongly opposed to NFTs hosted on the Bitcoin blockchain.

In order to explain this dispute, it is first necessary to provide some background on how Bitcoin and blockchain databases work. A traditional bank spends massive amounts of money maintaining a database of their customer’s assets and transactions. For example, the Bank of America IT department maintains a database that tracks all of the money held by the firm’s 54 million customers. (...)

With the exception of Ordinals, nobody's using Taproot for anything significant so there is an argument to be made that future Bitcoin protocol feature upgrades will become less and less important to users than say, Segwit.

Didn't Taproot upgrade also include Schnorr signatures? Either way, there's no denying that there were plenty of useful upgrades and patches and that active development will always be required at least at some level. It'll never be a work completed, as there will always be some challenges ahead (quantum computers, possible algo changes if mining gets delegalised or someone manages to obtain majority of hash power etc)

Don't see light lord have different project aside from 777coin and bitvest so maybe they really have a financial problem upon having those issues occur. They will never delay their payments if they earning good to their casino so maybe they start to experience a huge decline maybe due to competition that's why those problems to them happen. Then I guess this contributes to decision by lightlord to be out of this forum and stay only where they are now.

Life does not revolve around bitcointalk. They could have jobs/careers or just other, non-crypto related projects that we wouldn't know about.
I don't expect them to have kept i.e. funds for the signature campaign in the site's bankroll, or make it otherwise dependent on the site's profitability, that would be pretty horrible management. But we can only speculate on the reasons things went the way they went.

If he just close this thread then no people will speculate about what happen to Bitvest ...

No point in closing this thread. Someone could just create an "unofficial" one. Besides, this one is still getting bumped regularly, so that's some free marketing.
All it takes really is to put some note in the first post saying that they no longer monitor it. That would do the trick.

1797  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: SEC Chair Gensler confirms "everything other than Bitcoin is a security" on: March 01, 2023, 09:39:58 PM
I would answer you with a counter question - can "our" man be someone who works for the US government and according to the guidelines of that same government? The article you linked also states that this man worked for Goldman Sachs for 20 years, and after all that time he is certainly not inclined to any ideas like Bitcoin.

Well, there's no denying that there are quite a few die-hard bitcoiners even on this forum who almost seems to root for SEC to declare all other cryptos (especially ETH) as securities to cripple their market share. This goes to show how easy it is to lose the sense of the original purpose and swap principles for tribalism and the desire for financial gain.

A tu bananowy krypto milioner ... cel idealny.
