when you say nazism is socialism you're implying it is leftist. ....

Actually, it was the NAZIS that said they themselves were socialist. Their very name.

There may be some fine lines between corrupt fascist country and a corrupt socialist country, I am not sure it is worth arguing without very precise defining of the terms first.

it was a reaction to the growth of socialism and they stole the name to confuse the working class. the differences in its politics, in the economy, are huge. socialists were persecuted and killed. as I wrote before, don't be fooled by Hitler. it's 2020 and he's still fooling people.

This is an article that claims the Nazis were not socialists.

I tend toward the latter.

I understand exactly why Cnut237 is posting historical past issues and present day dangers some words and behaviours of Trump pose but the counter argument I see from several users does not carry an weight because it mostly consists of "others have said something and Trump has been on the receiving end".

That argument is petty and appropriate for this thread, it seems to be used as an excuse for diversion tactics. I created this thread to discuss the possible reasons for the state assembly of California to apologise for voting with the Roosevelt administration to have prison camps for Japanese Americans....

One solid reason why the state assembly shouldn't apologize is they were not responsible for the decisions, or the implementations of those prison camps. The federal government was.

After Sanders loses, will he go away?

Did you mean, after Bernie wins, will they try to steal the nomination from him?

I'm willing to bet 0.01 BTC that Bernie beats the competition if you're game. But Bernie getting over 50% of delegates I don't imagine is possible. Then again. I don't know enough about elections to forecast them.

I just know that a real movement like Bernie's trumps all these other pretenders.

Biden is a proven liar and ridiculously creepy, Elizabeth Warren is a snake.

Pete is already corrupt and he's barely a big player and I think enough people can see it.

There is no viable competition to Bernie. And as for Mike Bloomberg. I'd vote for Mike Hawk before I'd vote for that spoiled rich brat. (Mike Hawk is a joke, get it?) No matter how much money he throws out there, even if it's 100 Billion, he won't resonate with the people. Bernie has a million volunteers.

Edit: changed "be" to "he"

I'm very biased on this issue, and believe that if he wins, they will steal it. However, for me to bet with you would truly be a gamble. I have no clue if he will get a very large or very small number of delegates.

Having said that, here is the interesting question (again, I am very biased). But this question is all that matters.

After the convention, Bernie will/will not be the Democratic presidential candidate.
1785  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democrats on: March 01, 2020, 09:14:42 PM
Edit: my numbers above are a little off.  The pre-SC count includes a few early delegates that were awarded in SC.  suchmoon you're probably right, don't feel like doing any more delegate math at the moment.

I didn't do my own math either but the NYT tracker says:

Quote
30 - The delegate margin Mr. Biden needs to take the delegate lead over Bernie Sanders.

Currently the forecast for SC is 38 for Biden and 15 for Sanders, so Biden is about 7 delegates short of taking the lead.

After Sanders loses, will he go away?

My main point is that arguments like 'Bernie is Socialist and Nazis were Socialist, therefore....' are not valid arguments.  Instead of focusing on the labels, you should take an objective look at his proposals.

Not at all accurate. There's no reason to look at his proposals seriously at all, just take him at his word as to his Marxist orientation, and disregard everything after that.

He'll just promise anything, so why in the world would anyone believe what he says? Except of course when he says he has no idea how to pay for any of it.
1787  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bernie Sanders is the Frontrunner for the Dems on: March 01, 2020, 12:48:59 AM
If Bernie even gets the healthcare plan he is advocating for, a 100% tax rate won't cover it. Feel the Bern. Bern it all down.

Total gross annual income for Americans is ~18 trillion
Are you saying his healthcare plan would cost more than that?

After increasing taxation to the highest level possible, simple changes in the delivery of services, such as eliminating some and restricting others, ensures that healthcare costs will stay within any arbitrary budget target.

Ravenously take money in, then be very, very stingy in metering it out.

I also notice that you didn't respond to my reply about a Muslim ban. So, straight up, was there, or was there not a Muslim ban?  How about you address this one and only this one point.

How about you answer my very reasonable question? I'll repeat it.

36 is all you have? Even with the sidestepping of the actual original assertion of "demonization"?

I know you want to have a fair and unbiased look at demonization, so how about now you tell us how many acts of violence against Trump supporters?

Is this count correct? 419?

I won't waste peoples' time posting them all, but here are a few samples.

When you consider he cut funding and shut down CDC programs that were designed to handle this exact scenario then yeah I'd say he's earned the scorn he's getting for his response. Mr. Germophobe only cares when it's himself in the crosshairs, everyone else are little people to him. How anyone could ever be fans of him is beyond me. He's like a bad caricature of a human.

It's more real to say that he didn't renew funding for certain programs, than that he cut funding. Then with the 2.5B now allocated, that is a huge increase, not a decrease.

Instead of posting all of Trump’s let’s-incite-some-racial-hatred tweets, let’s have a look at the effects of what he says. There was that ABC investigation which found 36 criminal cases where Trump was invoked....

Whenever we have spoken about Coronavirus we all have discussed about people dying, or how it’s effecting business globally but suddenly it seems that Coronavirus can do what Democrats are failing to do i.e. stop Trump from winning the elections. As a Trump fan I was surprised to read the news but it seems to me that the media is taking advantage of Coronavirus, and is trying to manipulate people against voting for Trump. It’s also pertinent to note that Trump’s and his staffs response is not helping at this stage, as I strongly felt they could have released better statements. In my personal opinion this scenario is being hyped by the media a lot, and so do you’ll believe that Trump could loose if Coronavirus spreads across US?.

Hmm.... semi-pandemic, CDC is doing their thing pretty well at handling it, media blasts Trump as usual and blames every thing on him as usual...

I tend to think no on this. That they could not twist things enough to cause him to lose.

How do open borders help protect us from the virus?
1792  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Coronavirus Outbreak on: February 28, 2020, 02:07:48 AM
Reminder: The masks are for those having coughs or sneezes, healthy people should NOT wear masks, those masks won't protect you, its to stop you from spreading it into others. You would do better staying home.

N95 - FFP2 and above masks will in fact help prevent you from being infected, assuming it is a proper fit. ...

Given the choice of alcohol gel hand cleaner vs N95, I would take the hand cleaner.

However, given the scarcity of the masks, here is a suggestion. Get activated carbon sheets, and make your own masks. >N95 of course.

Stop it. There is no demonization of Muslims nor of Mexicans. There was no Muslim travel ban. How can any thinking person think that it was a "Muslim" travel ban.

I was going to reply with a list of Trump's tweets about Mexican rapists, and some stats from here about the Muslim travel ban... but I really can't be bothered.
No demonization? Seriously? You've heard he's building a wall to keep the Mexicans out, right?

No demonization, right. Seriously.

....If Bernie gets past the party, and wins, and then goes up against Trump, will his own party support him, or will they prefer Trump to win because it would mean that next time around Bernie is out and they can pick one of their own instead of this impertinent upstart outsider? Genuine question, because that's what happened here in the UK.
The mainstream liberal people here in the US will prefer Trump to win.

The fact that international influences and a decades long infiltration of the universities props up Bernie right now does not mean he's acceptable.

He's not.
1795  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Julian Assange: Extradition Hearing (from UK to US) begins in London on: February 27, 2020, 01:05:53 PM
Very well articulated, I agree with you. It looks clear that Assange is definitely the outsider and Trump was positioned by himself and his party to look like an outsider.

....

Trump was rejected by the Republican Party in the primaries. They kept trying to bring Jeb Bush up in the polls and the debates. Then during and after the election, the Never trumpers split off.

Very well articulated, I agree with you. It looks clear that Assange is definitely the outsider and Trump was positioned by himself and his party to look like an outsider.

Kindly elaborate. I can understand the analogy when it is applied to Assange but cannot see it apply to Trump no matter which way it is applied.

Trump and Assange are both outsiders fighting the system.
I think there's a distinction to be made here. Assange is an outsider, Trump positions himself so that he looks like an outsider.

Trump may as well be an outsider at certain points. Like when something like this happens - https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/23/politics/intelligence-briefer-russian-interference-trump-sanders/index.html - where a US intelligence briefer (to congress) overstated the assement of Russian interference in their picking of a candidate.

But yes, at the end of the day Trump is the commander in chief and he is NOT an outsider in the least. That's not a fair way to describe yourself when you're the one that is running the show.

It's true that after several bitter years, the rank and file of the Republican at least seems to be behind Trump. I do not think they are reliably pro-Trump, not at all. Some are just Washington DC swamp creatures. But the entire 3.5 year spectacle of anti-Trump actions has clearly shown the extent of the hatred of him and his policies.

I can see how there is an argument that the commander in chief by definition cannot be an outsider. But then it's necessary to redefine concepts to reach the desired conclusion.

Trump is not going to be impeached. The Dems will not play that game again. And, if they do, they will look even further out of touch then they do now.
Impeaching Trump was a stupid move from the Dems. He was always going to be acquitted by the Senate anyway, that was zero surprise to anyone.....

Stupid move by the Democrats really, and one which does strongly suggest that they don't have even the merest understanding of the nature of Trump's power. Indeed they do look out of touch, which again could lead voters to Trump. Don't know what (if anything) they were thinking.

As someone who is pro-Trump, I would argue that in the right hands, skilled players, with the right strategy, Democrats could have effectively destroyed Trump. But not only did they not succeed in that, they played stupid moves at every move. They put their amateurish game right out in front of everyone.

Why show everyone what an idiot you are? But that's what they did.

Thank you for the reply.

Do you think survivors or their next of kins hearing and receiving an apology softens the blow of tragic wrongdoing the victims suffered?

Did they also made German camps, and Italian camps? Surely the other axis countries would have supporters in American soil wouldn't they? Or was is something especially racist against Japanese?

Definitely too late, the victims of the State segregation are mostly gone by now...

So I have ancestors who were known as Druids. You know anything about them?

I'm waiting for my apologies...

Waiting...

I agree that Bloomberg had a better night than the previous debate.  He even tried a little self-deprecating humor, which made him seem more human, less robotic.  I don't know if he's just deadpan all the time, or if he's thinks he's being professional by minimizing his facial expressions.  Regardless of his demeanor, and despite his wealth he struck me as the most "down-to-earth" and rational person on the stage last night. ....

DireWolfM14's award for the most highly-polished empty suit goes to Pete Buttigieg.  Every thing that comes out his mouth sounds like scripted, oxygen wasting empty noise.

If I were to base my predictions on last night's debate alone, I would say that Bloomberg is only on that stage that has half a prayer to beat Trump in November.

I think Bloom has a personality disorder in a different direction than Trump, but not altogether dissimilar.

But why did you miss out on the most important thing happening?

The opportunity for voters to vote for TOTAL BS!
