1841  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 26, 2014, 08:34:18 AM
Main board dimensions
440X330X2.2mm
with max height on CS 13mm not final
and max height on PS 7mm not final

Mng board
87X265mm
with max height on CS 15mm not final
and max height on PS 3mm not final

Power is provided to the main board using a bus bar
Signals are connected between the Main and the Mng board using a flat cable.

Thanks. Can you clarify on what PS and CS are?

Also is the sp30 going to be a flat board similar to sp10 or is the "mng board" a seperate board for each chip?
CS stands for "component side" ( the upper side where the ASICs are installed) and
PS stands for "print side".

SP10 and SP30 shares the same similar design: Two ASICs boards, one management board (FPGA + TI Sitara) as side sandwich.
You can look at dogie picture here to better understand the design:

We're thinking to do another design for RockerBox in which the ASICs + FPGA + TI Sitara will sit in one self contained board.
This will be ideal for immersion cooling, but it will increase the BOM cost.

Sample Unit!
The list of reviewers was arranged by SyRenity few weeks before our launch.
ShadesOfMarble was the last one in the list and he got April batch.
The "Sample Unit" are ordinary units picked from the assembly line after testing.
We did the same with all the reviewers. We asked for a fair and true review only. Uncensored.

Oh, okay,.. I see you sent out review / sample units of the SP10. Do you have such a list for SP30? I'd like to be on it. (I'm also trying to help your "official" group buy by sending people to that thread.)
Sure. Please email info@spondoolies-tech.com

Anyone know the exact dimensions of the pcbs and the psu?

I'm making an immersion cooling mockup and would like to know how close together these boards can get.

Average asic pcb thickness would be helpful as well. (thickest component, not just the plastic)

I'll compile the data and provide it later. In the meantime, you can look at the information package we've released for SP10: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/perv38mg04938ru/gkIFHA3OpQ
The PCB layout software is Allegro PCB Designer (Ver 16.6)

Still waiting to get SP10 data from Harel our HW director. Got SP30 data for now:

In high level the system include 2 PSUs+ 2 Main boards and Management board.

Just my 2 cents:

As hard as I try, because I would really like to have some shiny spankin' new SP30s (do they come in matt black with satin chrome bezels ?)  , I can not find numbers that produce a profit significantly large enough to offset the risk, without making unreasonable and unlikely assumptions about one or more of a) the price of bitcoin in the future or b) limits on the rate of increase of difficulty. Even best case likely scenarios indicate barely making ROI after assuming a very large risk.

This is assuming April RoadStress SP30 bulk buy prices, the 'KNC' discount, and discounting any delivery risk (however slight).

Perhaps someone else can plug some numbers into https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator that work, publish them here, and then justify their assumptions ?

Having said that, the fantasy of turning the basement into a server room (however impracticable the provision of power and cooling would be), the additional lure of the 'spread the hash' bait, and the David against Goliath (erm ... KNC) story  is tempting … but unconvincing.

Nice hobby but unlikely to make much if any BTC …

L)L

This is what I have been debating for a long time. There would have to be a huge slow down the rate difficulty increases. It is hard to see this with the increased hash rate of new ASIC's. But I want to believe because I want 1 or 3 of these.

We're waiting for samples from https://openrigs.com/
They are in the process of finalising specs on a product that is geared towards rack-mountable ASIC miners.
We'll post pictures when we'll get the samples.

For bulk SP10 customers, we can do an intro with the owner of a WA DC with the following costs:
160$ / SP10 / month (minimum 6 months, one month deposit) + one time 100$ setup fess (includes the cables and mounting ears)

At 1.25 kw that comes out to $.18/kwh. That's still quite costly.

Depends on your location! In my country, power costs are high (about $0.38/kwh) and don't forget the cooling!

And UPS, backup generator, physical security, 24 X 7 maintenance, ...

Let's have a look at the "competition", the first frankenjup arrived in bad condition:

I had expected KNC to do a better job!

Thank you, I will take this into account. Have they priced the hosting of the SP30 yet?

It's true that we've designed SP10 and SP30 with DC deployment in mind.
We're offering hosting solution for SP10 in Israel and we're offering cheaper solution for SP30 and bulk SP10s in the US.

We added remote management via HTTPS to allow simple access when hosted.

There are endless cheap B2C DC solutions around the world.

You know, I've been looking into this and have hit the inevitable roadblock of power consumption vs. space...

I found a "high power density" data center in the Northeast US. They are familiar with BTC and would love to have me as a customer.

They rent bulk space by the cabinet, standard 42U.

At 1.5U I could stuff 28 SP10's in a single cabinet.

Unfortunately, even at this "high power density" datacenter, they max out at 18kw per cabinet.

That allows for 13 SP10's or 19.5U, leaving 22.5U of empty, unusable space in the cabinet.

The only way I can see to feasibly "fill" a rack is with a purpose built submersion cooling system.

...
If it was about distribution of the hash rate they could easily have designed a product using their chips that would work in any environment, using a larger case and larger lower speed fans.
...

We simply don't have the bandwidth to do it. We'll gladly sell our ASICs to anyone interested in developing additionals form factors.

Assuming we'll have space in our Israeli DC in August, we'll allow that.
If not, we'll have to ship it to WA DC and then you'll be committed to 6 months hosting.

OK, and after 6 months, what should be the expected shipping cost if I want miner in my hand, or it becomes unprofitable at hosting?
Unknown now, depending on the courier, shipping speed, etc
We'll work on the options later on and charge our cost.

90 days, no questions asked.

Thanks, I did miss the shipping part.  That was my mistake.

""The units include free shipping or one month of free hosting. If you choose free shipping the units will be shipped to you directly from Spondoolies-Tech.""

SO if we do not choose free shipping, will they be shipped from somewhere else?

Thanks again!!

I have corrected the OP. Shipping will be directly from Spoondolies Tech no matter what you choose.

Will there be an option to have it hosted Free for one month and then Pay for shipping so it's shipped on the day the hosting ends?

I thought the 0.1BTC reservation held our shipping que spot?

I think you can ignore Order# in this case. As mentioned shipping will be done by the txid time.
Correct. We'll ship according to txid order.

OK, thanks for the update.
The email made it sound like order was determined after full payment.
I asked them about that via email but havent got reply yet about setting up
payment since Im waiting on BTC funds to be available.

Spondoolies, have you given any thought to putting the SP10 blades in a SP30 chassis for a quieter machine?

This might appeal more to people who want to run them at home. Bigger fans, less noise, probably run cooler as well.

I know you designed them to sell these to massive colocated farm owners and dat0rhalls but in view of your wish to maintain the network distribution as altruistically as possible would it not be in the interests of that wish to make a device that works in the home to replace all the ageing power guzzling kit that is currently out there?

The SP30 chassis and mechanics will be available only on July.
(We certainly didn't design it for dat0rhalls...)

isn't there a May/June batch? at least to show the devastation from last batch or preparations for the next....anything....as they say a pic. is worth a thousand words

May Batch production starts on May 4th. As explained, we're building, testing and shipping the same day.
Bob and company arrives for 2 hours meeting in our Office (Kiryat Gat in the south), which is located about 2.5 hours drive from Flextronics (Migdal Ha'emek in the north)

We did post some pictures back in March:
