Anyone know the exact dimensions of the pcbs and the psu?
I'm making an immersion cooling mockup and would like to know how close together these boards can get.
Average asic pcb thickness would be helpful as well. (thickest component, not just the plastic)

Are you going with a 2-phase immersion cooling approach using something like 3m Novec? How are you planning to absorb the heat at the top of the container? Water cooled chillers?

Spondoolies, have you given any thought to putting the SP10 blades in a SP30 chassis for a quieter machine?
This might appeal more to people who want to run them at home. Bigger fans, less noise, probably run cooler as well.
I know you designed them to sell these to massive colocated farm owners and dat0rhalls but in view of your wish to maintain the network distribution as altruistically as possible would it not be in the interests of that wish to make a device that works in the home to replace all the ageing power guzzling kit that is currently out there?
The SP30 chassis and mechanics will be available only on July. (We certainly didn't design it for dat0rhalls...) Shame, I'd love to buy one but they are just too loud for home use. And I'm sorry but they are clearly designed for massive datacenter implementation, a datorhall is just swedish for datacenter. With the footprint, noise, 1.25U and PSU's used they are obviously specced for massive concentrations of hashpower, I don't see why anyone would do it that way unless that was their plan. Plus it makes good business sense, its where all the big money is going to be in the future. I don't blame you guys for doing it, just don't pretend to be for the little guy and the distribution of hash rate until you produce a product that everyone can plug in and run without wearing earplugs all day.

That's disingenuous, in no way was I complaining about the size, I'm complaining about the noise and heat. The comments regarding the size of the unit are about its intended market, the white hat concept they are espousing "We're committed to the distribution of the hash-rate and the long term viability of the eco-system." when really they have designed their product to fit their vision of a mining moving to big datacenters which is not about distribution of the hash rate. If it was about distribution of the hash rate they could easily have designed a product using their chips that would work in any environment, using a larger case and larger lower speed fans. I am not saying is that they are wrong to do this from a business perspective, they must be planning on selling an enormous amount of them to big datacenter or cloud mining concerns otherwise they wouldn't have been able to raise the VC funding in the first place.

True but not true. If you look for efficiency, a datacenter is the best place where you can put your miners. Stabilized temps, secured facilities, etc. If you take the SP10, I believe that even with large fan, large rack etc, the outgoing air would be damn, damn hot (46°c). The power consumption (4000w for 3SP10, 4.2 Th/s) is a big concern. It means that you need 1.3 kW for your machine + 0.6kw to cool it properly. Do the math (I did it to late indeed) and even in France, I realized that housing in a DC is cheaper than home. Datacenter are more likely working as B2B (business to business) but if you look for it, you'll find a a datacenter working as B2C (business to consumer) as well.

We simply don't have the bandwidth to do it. We'll gladly sell our ASICs to anyone interested in developing additionals form factors.

You know, I've been looking into this and have hit the inevitable roadblock of power consumption vs. space... I found a "high power density" data center in the Northeast US. They are familiar with BTC and would love to have me as a customer. They rent bulk space by the cabinet, standard 42U. At 1.5U I could stuff 28 SP10's in a single cabinet. Unfortunately, even at this "high power density" datacenter, they max out at 18kw per cabinet. That allows for 13 SP10's or 19.5U, leaving 22.5U of empty, unusable space in the cabinet. The only way I can see to feasibly "fill" a rack is with a purpose built submersion cooling system.

Noise i can understand, but heat? Isn't heat the same? If you have 5 devices that need 200W aren't they the same with 1 devices that needs 1000W when you measure the heat output?

Noise i can understand, but heat? Isn't heat the same? If you have 5 devices that need 200W aren't they the same with 1 devices that needs 1000W when you measure the heat output? I guess it depends on whether you cram them into such a tight space that they compound the temperature before it can be exhausted. I'll just have to wait till someone comes out with devices based on the Spondoolies chips that fits more into my mindset That and continue to look fruitlessly for EU rackspace thats reasonably priced, maybe I should build my own

I'll second that, my SP10 was packaged immaculately - it doesn't take much to make sure a mining rig is safe during shipping... some simple corrugated cardboard cut in the right way, is simple, cheap and effective. 10/10

At 1.25 kw that comes out to $.18/kwh. That's still quite costly.
