1901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you experienced this kind of gambling on: January 07, 2023, 08:38:05 PM
Have heard of people waking up to go play draws on numbers they probably saw in their dreams while they were sleeping, and another where certain persons also place their belief on getting draws from mad persons on the streets (a situation where they buy food for the said mad man who in turn writes down numbers that would play draw on pool that very weekend), of which in most cases these numbers tend to play.
But in my whole time as a gambler and even amongst my gambling friends I have never heard of gambling based on jerseys number sign due to how repeatedly they flash on TV. It's quite weird though but I understand that gamblers can pull out every strategy possible just to get winnings anyway!  No matter the strategy anyone uses, what really matters is winning's.

Pretty common in communities and countries suffering from poverty, or low quality of education. In the Philippines alone it is considered lucky to bet on the dates of your close relatives/children and spouse if there's any on the country's major lottery. They thought these numbers have a bigger significance than just being plain dates where their children were born, thid leads them to bet and bet until they finally win or they die, with the latter being the obvious case. It's a curse of having a pattern-loving brain like humans. Back then it allowed us to be safe in the wild, now these heuristics and biases hold us down by forcing us to cling upon correlation without causalities.
1902  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 on: January 07, 2023, 07:30:06 PM
but do you think Magnus will stop playing at all?
he'll probably come back to competing OTB again in some years
no shame in taking a break for a couple years if he keeps studying.
Of course he'll come back. OTB chess is as essential and substantial to Carlsen as breathing. He'll be nothing without it. He knows that much and is probably making some sort of strat to maximize his comebacks. His games against Niemann took a toll on his mental, regardless if Hans cheated or not, so this buffer of his is important in order to remain sharp and deadly in chess. Going back though, I think it'll be best for him to publicize himself more by streaming his online games, disguising it as live chess tutorials so people become more aware of the game.
1903  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What's the best strategy for high wagering/low losses on plinko? on: January 07, 2023, 06:19:19 PM
There's a higher chance of it landing on the middle rows. Normal curve-based probability. I would suggest you focus more of your bets within the center, and then deviate a little here and there to cover a wider range. If you are shooting for a single bet high wager, however, this could still work but will not guarantee a win every time. So I would really suggest you drop multiple marbles instead of going all out on different bets, like what Jackg said.
1904  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Some Gambling Slang and Terms that Beginners Should be Aware of on: January 07, 2023, 04:59:57 PM
A definitive list if I do say so myself. The terminologies here we oftentimes use are duly explained without any other compromise. Even I who have been gambling for a while now is surprised to see Beard, coz I don't really know about it until now. If I may add one thing however, I think it should be Revenge Gambling. Which is a manner of betting done belligerently or without proper thinking over because of frustration and burnout after a huge or detrimental loss. I've seen people nowadays succumb to this gambling pattern but it didn't have a name until now.
1905  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If Luck Was Measured In Percentage, Rate Your Luck In 2022 From 0-100 on: January 07, 2023, 05:24:43 AM
I think given the fact that you didn't gamble much and didn't win a lot either, 5% for luck is a little too generous for me. Although you do you really.

As for me, I played and gambled quite a lot this year, studied working gambling patterns and strategies to maximize winnings, and ensured that I incorporate a discipline whenever I play. If I were to interpret this into percentages, I think I'd hit a solid 40-50% luck rate because my gambling funds remained relatively the same despite the amount of games I have played,
1906  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you guys bet on sports or casinos more? on: January 05, 2023, 07:40:18 PM
As for me, I don't think it really mattered whether my money goes all to the casino or to sports. As long as  I can bet and play to relieve myself of the stress of the daily bustle, I'm good. Although as I study my gambling patterns, I find that I subconsciously spend money evenly between the two. Like I somehow know to never favor one bet over the other. I guess this unconscious habit of mine is to be thanked for still relatively staying afloat, not losing too much money and not winning that much either. Just enough to keep me gambling every now and then.
1907  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2022 on: January 05, 2023, 06:44:24 PM
What are your thoughts on his retirement for over-the-board chess for one (1) year? He mentioned in an interview that he will not be active for a year BUT he will continue to participate in online tournaments.

let the man rest
he's young and deserves to live life

I think he has great chances of coming back to OTB tournaments in the future but at this point he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone.
he could take some rest, travel, whatever and come back in 1, 2 or 5 years.
maybe at this point there'll be another player his level.

if he do that then we can not force him not to do that but one thing I assure. If he gonna play online tournament then I think there's a big reason why he choose that I think once he play online he can focus his family and do what he want to do. But if he want to rest and do anything what he want and came back next 2 years then I think he can do it again and win all he need is he must practice inorder to forgot.
He does have the power to choose whether or not he is to play chess OTB and afaik he did attend the games where he bagged the crown and reclaimed his throne. But going back to the subject, Unlike Kasparov who has already cemented himself in the ranks of the Gods, Magnus, and Hikaru for that matter still has more to prove to the people and to their fellow GMs. These two are still in their prime and has probably haven't reached their peak yet, so it only makes sense for Magnus to play more OTB as much as possible. Earning reputation and public acclaim with every win he will bag.
1908  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Factors that contribute to form addictive gambling. on: January 05, 2023, 05:33:37 PM
In my opinion. The biggest contributor to gambling addiction is revenge gambling. Which is gambling after a loss—doesn't matter how big, out of spite and with the intention of getting the losses back in the process. When you revenge gamble, you are not in the right headspace to make concrete decisions as your attention is more focused on winning than anything. And in my opinion this never-ending chase for the bag is what will cost you to gamble, lose, revenge gamble, lose, until you find yourself 6 feet deep in debt and in trouble.
1909  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you bet is chess matches? on: January 05, 2023, 04:23:53 PM
I've made a few bets between friends of mine over who will win in major chess tournaments a couple of times already. So far I'm yet t0 see an official casino preceding bets for games like this but speaking as an avid chess enthusiast since time immemorial, it would do the chess community great service if it could get all the popularity it could. As it stands today chess is far from a dying sport, I would even argue that it will outlive every known sport and game in existence. But the utter lack of public attention and acclaim is saddening sometimes, especially considering how great the game is and how high-level yet beginner friendly it could be.
1910  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you a lone Sports Bettor or a Team Sports Bettor? on: January 03, 2023, 04:36:59 PM
For a solid amount of time I think I've been a lone sports bettor. I did not rely on any form of call or signal group and all my bets are made solely by yours truly. I experienced acceptable success through that, but when I got introduced to signal channela and groups it made all the difference. I find that collaborative efforts and insight allowed me to make more intelligent predictions I would otherwise wouldn't have done if I am the only one thinking for my bets. At the end of the day it's to each their own because of course, it's your money your rules. But certainly having signals given to you through various means on which team to bet on is really beneficial.
1911  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting Types Newbies Should know About on: January 02, 2023, 10:15:03 PM
There's a type of betting in the Philippines too. They call it End Betting or Ending, where they bet over what the last digit of the score of the teams will be. Games where score can go to two digits or more is perfect for this game, basketball for instance. Special cards are given to confirmed bettors where they are to cross out what they think the end numbers will be. And a little futures betting is involved because they are basically predicting game outcomes. It has been a huge part of the neighborhood culture in the country, and as far as I know it is still in practice to this day.
1912  Economy / Economics / Re: Legal methods of acquiring free assets on: January 02, 2023, 09:21:33 PM
If you get something for free, then you are the product. In your case of people giving these earthmovers for free, you are giving them the service that they would otherwise have to pay expensive money to do. There is no guarantee that you'd even be able to sell these off given the fact that they sre most likely worn down and would not be valuable besides for scrap. Then again if you are good at flippijng items for money this could actually be a good gig to earn a few bucks but for the regular joe this may not work as intended.

I get the sentiment on OP's post though, stating and supposing that there's money to be made if you know how to look around which I would agree.
1913  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We have been told: Invest only Extra money in bitcoin on: January 02, 2023, 07:53:42 PM
Money you can afford to lose doesn't necessarily mean extra money that you have lying around. Money you cam afford to lose is well, momey that will not be that detrimental to lose and/or can easily be recovered through various means. If you can easily recover the money through employment or whatnot, then that means it's money you can afford to lose. My rule of thumb is that if it doesn't starve me to lose it, doesn't cause me to lose light and water as well as internet connection, then that means it's money I can afford to lose and can use to invest in crypto.
1914  Economy / Economics / Re: Every passing year seems progressively worse on: January 01, 2023, 10:31:52 PM
I think a heuristic is at play here. There have been countless claims even in the olden days stating that ae are living in the worst of times. Although I believe this line of thinking isn't completely without basis. Tschnology plays a part at magnifying negative eventualities more than how severe they really are. And as it progresses it gets better at making us feel this way. No doubt, our problems become more and more complex as time goes by, but so are the solutions available at our disposal. So in the case of problems getting worse and worse as time goes by, especially within the economic sector of things, it is of complete basis but there's no point to dwelling in  the problem.
1915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto (btc) is not for the weak on: January 01, 2023, 09:25:05 PM
There is no room for weak-hearted people in the crypto industry. I've seen people here suffer a complete liquidation of funds during the worst seasons of the market  and are still able to recover most of their funds and their sanity as well lol. But all of this didn't happen just because, they took sleepless nights studying the market, everything about crypto, and whatnot to get rhe most out of the profit potential in this venture. So in reality,  not only does this venture require you to have balls of steel, but it also asks you to have the perseverance and patience to learn new things to be rewarded handsomely.
1916  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino bonus is it worth it? on: January 01, 2023, 08:31:48 PM
And we indeed have to know our own limits, so we don't use excess money to play gambling.

The reality is, users will really end up depositing more of their extra money in able to reach the eligibility requirements for the said promotions.

I don't see what's the point of having an interest in joining promotions if they don't have the expectation that will really end up doing several deposits.

Setting limits is fine but might not be followed properly if aiming for getting the rewards on bonuses or promotions.
That is why you must discern whether the bonus you are shooting for is worth dropping in a few extra dollars above your supposed gambling budget. Modt often it is not, because you'll end up fostering unhealthy habits like ovrdepositing without you really knowing about it. That being said there are other bonuses out there that are worth it. For instwnce, free spins after depositing is a good example. There are others but this is the most common form of a casino bonus that you might not wanna pass up. Then again, the decidion is entieely on your hands.
1917  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers that don't understand basic gambling concepts. on: January 01, 2023, 06:32:03 PM
Certainly. Oftentimes it is not about the mathematical concepts that they are especially lackinh, because truth be told, the average gambler wouldn't really read a book on how to amp their chancss even if their lives depended on it. They especially suck in understanding. Just take for example people who whine about losing more money than earning using the Matringale Strat. They think it's a surefire way to earn you money without realizing that the strat never dabbles with altering the probability of wins to favor the player, it only increases the potential earninga the longer you play. So yes I do agree, people nowadays lack the basic concept of mathematics needed to underatand these games, but they also mostly lack basic common sense too.
1918  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are your takes on revenge gambling? on: January 01, 2023, 04:58:11 PM
Revenge gambling is one of the most belligerent things you could when you gamble. Responsible gambling warrants that you remain calm ans collected even in tense situations because that's when you make the most stupif mistakes. Anger and pressure clouds your judgement, and makes you commit mistakes you otherwise wouldn't have done if you are calmer. At the end of the day, if you think you are af the verge of committing revenge gambling, take a deep breath and stay out of gambling for a while. Try to reconnect and socialize with people who matter s a lot in your life.
1919  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling For Fun - What Does This Mean To You? on: December 31, 2022, 07:59:59 PM
I thought I was the only one on board this ship and perspective of view towards gambling for fun.
Lately I've read and come across a thread when a poster said something about people just spending more and loving reckless life but I guess that's  only possible after you make a win.
I have always told people that no matter what your intentions are towards gambling, the upmost priority is to make profits and there is always a feeling associated with winning expecially in from either gambling or whatever business one does.
I'm on the affirmative side of OP and I stand with him to agree that, making profit unconsciously without paying attention to your losses is actually gambling for fun.
I get that, and honestly that is the very essence of having fun while gambling—to win more and lose less. However, losses, whether subsequent or not will get to your nerves one way or another and will cause you to lose cool and eventually gamble solely for profit. Which is why expecting less every gamble is a preferred discipline. It rids your brain of the heuristic that you must win to have fun and makes every win fruitful, while losses less mentally straining. The point we're trying to make here with promoting gambling not for profit but for the sake of gambling is to retain as much fun as possible in every game. People will find it harder to remain happy while gambling than to find fun in gambling, which is why I think this is an integral tip.
1920  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoiners kill Bitcoin, and governments are happy, boycott the CEXs on: December 31, 2022, 06:58:53 PM
Celsius, Voyager, Terra/Luna, for instance. Why are we not focusing on these ones, when they are just as damaging if not even more impactful than CEXs?
Celsius and Voyager were centralized exchanges and lending platforms, so they are included in the umbrella of CEXs. Terra was a centralized altcoin with their own centralized platform.

Every major hack, collapse, scam, bankruptcy, etc., in bitcoin's history had been of a centralized platform, service, exchange, altcoin, whatever. From Bitconnect to Luna, from Mt Gox to FTX, from ICOs to DeFi. It's always some centralized trash promising the world and delivering nothing.
point taken, I may have lapses in research regarding the nature of these scams. Reading all these opened my eyes a little regarding just how far the rabbit hole goes when it comes to heinous acts of crime made by centralized exchanges. I do understand they became brooding grounds of scam and taking advantage of hapless people who are so trusting. My point is that, I think as much flak as they are receiving right now, centralized exchanges are still a great addition to the industry. In a sense that they became gateways for people who are still learning the ropes of the crypto exchange.
