1601  Other / Off-topic / Re: very critical decision to make in my life on: March 20, 2023, 06:29:46 PM
College education and certifications don't help too much these days. This was valid 20-30 years ago but not anymore. You can learn a lot online for free. Investing in BTC might be good in the long run. Nobody can give you an exact answer. Only you can decide what's best for you. Good luck!
Although I would agree with your statement, given the fact that I for one have stopped studying, and is living fairly well-off without a degree, I wouldn't be so hasty as to provide a haphazard advice especially since it involves money, which in his case is even more crucial since it's money that is entrusted to him by whoever to be payment for tuition. I would agree, bitcoin is a good form of investment, and there's a huge possibility for profit if you look past its crazy volatility rate, but I wouldn't really be the guy to tell him "hey, stop studying bro just buy bitcoin". That's just belligerent.

OP, if possible, pay off your college tuition with that money, and invest on bitcoin with money that you worked for, do not break your people's trust by doing something under their noses. Moreso endanger your future because as much as people hate to admit it, a degree is still very much relevant today. It's not part of the success recipe yes, but it's something that makes the journey a little easier for you. So go get that degree, and make your own bitcoin success story.
1602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: this is, how easy it is to scam people on: March 20, 2023, 05:53:08 PM
That is how easy it is to scam people who are none the wiser with how the internet works, more so how bitcoin works for that matter. You're talking and fooling someone who literally has little to know idea about bitcoin, so it wouldn't come as a surprise that they are easily convinced. With information becoming more and more available by the day, this will no longer be the case as everyone would much rather do their own google searches/research first before jumping on a new investment venture.

Also, scams don't cater to everyone, good scams are those that know who their target demographic is. That is why the Nigerian Prince scam, laughable in execution, is still one of the most damaging scams in the US, as some may have pointed out.
1603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Physical Bitcoin Shop in Port Harcourt (Nigeria) on: March 18, 2023, 09:29:16 PM
Nigeria has always been the spearhead of progress for the entirety of Africa. I sometimes call it the guinea pig of the African Continent (in a good way) because they are always the ones to take the risks before the rest of the continent, which is why comparatively, they are better in a lot of ways than neighboring countries. This bitcoin shop is no different from the past progressive things the country has made.

Though the dream of global adoption is still a little far from over the horizon, it's nice to see small-scale businesses like these doing their part in ensuring it does happen in the future. I look forward to hearing more updates from this bitcoin shop, if they have a social media page or something of the likes please link it up!

Also, happy belated birthday OP! Hope your birthday's spent fantastically!
1604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and proof of stake on: March 18, 2023, 08:50:04 PM
Because of two reasons at least for me

1. Because consensus switches like these are expensive and not even guaranteeing ease of access and cheaper and faster transactions, and;
2. Because Bitcoin just wouldn't work as a proof-of-stake, let me explain.

Bitcoin as a currency is flawed, with so many attack vectors that could very well be abused by the people with half a mind to control it. With PoS, you are centralizing the control of the whole network, which could easily become a target for massive attacks and hackings.

Also, you're putting the whales at the forefront of control with PoS. In PoS, the voting mechanism is determined by who owns the most coins, and only by then will you be allowed to cast a vote, this is why it works for altcoins, because devs could very well control the circulation and make the team own the most coins out of everyone, whale or not. Bitcoin doesn't have that liberty, so if you switch to PoS and have the whales control bitcoin, you're giving them nigh-omnipotence over the coin. At least with PoW, everyone could have a say, just contribute a little by expending energy for mining and you're good, in PoS, this will never work.
1605  Economy / Economics / Re: Try to save money while you still can, will you ? on: March 18, 2023, 08:02:44 PM
For a lot of countries getting laid off isn't as hard as it could possibly be, especially if they don't have other mouths to feed, courtesy of unemployment checks, I suggest he look into a couple of other options for earning like what I did at the height of the pandemic back in 2020. I got laid off like all of you guys, and it was one of the worst times to lose a job too considering it's the pandemic. What I did instead of moping around and complaining about how hard life is is to not look for friends to borrow money from, but to look for opportunities in freelancing or whatnot. Fast forward to today, I have a pretty strong portfolio and have been serving a couple of clients consistently, and have been able to provide for myself and my family through freelancing.

I'm not saying everybody should go freelance because it has its own ups and downs, what I'm saying is that well if another door closes for you, you should go looking for another. The first step into solving your problem is to actually dust yourself up and do something about it.
1606  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans go to Mexico for medicals to cut costs. on: March 18, 2023, 07:20:11 PM
I thought all Americans have access to cheap and quality medical services until I read that over one million Americans go on medical tourism in Mexico yearly.
Americans don't have universal health care but even if they did, that doesn't mean that certain percentage of wouldn't go to Mexico or other cheaper countries and same thing happens all over the world.

For example, here in Croatia we have decent universal health care but if you want to do something faster and can't wait, you go to private clinics and then some people go to neighbouring countries like Serbia that have lower standard so its cheaper to do certain stuff there like teeth implants, plastic surgeries, eye related procedures etc. And in the same way people from more developed countries come to Croatia to do their medical procedures because we are cheaper than Austria/Switzerland etc but still good.

For a while I thought they did, Obamacare was something that have been in talks during 2014-2015 and frankly speaking a relative of mine was able to receive its benefits too. I do not know what happened after that however. In any case, the lack of a universal healthcare system in America is partly (and correct me if I'm wrong with this), a product of the capitalist society that bit them in the ass hard. Like insurance companies would most often mess them up with costs and stiff off of absolving hospital bills in order to pocket the client's money. Another would be the fact that since there's a lot of monopoly in the country, companies could easily jack the prices of all their products and services. One good example is the impossible markup that hospitals impose on people's bills, i kid you not tylenol when administered in the hospital will cost more than if you'd just bought it yourself from the drug store.
1607  Economy / Economics / Re: Poor and Rich on: March 18, 2023, 06:42:33 PM
You've listed one of the very reasons why the rich get rich and the poor get poorer, but there are other factors that play into this problem. Some of them include:

  • Lack of Opportunities: You can't become rich without working a day in your life, but what if the opportunity doesn't come around? Lack of opportunities to find employment are a good reason why people become even poorer as time goes by.
  • No Financial Literacy: I've seen people become rich and then blow all their money away belligerently, only to end up with nothign and be dead broke right after. Proper management of funds, as well as budgeting, investing, and saving of money is important in order to keep your wealth
  • Inflation:For the poor, this is a curse, for the enterprises, Inflation is a blessing. Rising prices will always put money in the pockets of those that control the supply, while the poor people suffer.
  • Corruption and Greed Sometimes, scratch it, more often than not, the government's evil practices marginalize the poor people even more, at the expense of putting more money in their pockets, this becomes a problem that couldn't be overlooked as time goes by.
1608  Economy / Economics / Re: The impact of artificial intelligence, chat GPT on the crypto market. on: March 17, 2023, 08:12:33 PM
Apart from the occasional tech support it could provide to future users of the cryptocurrency industry, especially ones that focus on the IT sector, I think the other big contribution it could provide to the industry is Service as a Service. As of the moment a lot of companies who offe SaaS sought to monetize ChatGPT's high aptitude for collecting and processing data from users and deriving a result from the prompt. This could help everyone from small corporate companies who offer SaaS, to maybe even NFT projects. As a matter of fact I think I saw one NFT project out there outright using AI/ChatGPT as one of their features, basically making it personalized and directly usable only to holders of their NFT. So yeah the possibilities are immense.
1609  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will this Statement alone be enough to Prove my Gambling Loses for Tax Deduction on: March 17, 2023, 07:40:57 PM
First time I've ever heard of countries counting your gambling losses off of tax deduction honestly, coz as far as I know they don't touch those things, except when maybe you've earned a net profit in your YTD statement which in that case you'll be bombarded by emails and letters from your tax collector to include those wins and declare them in your taxes.
It's really amazing that the government sees tax like business. Infact they tax law mentioned a proffesion called proffesional gambling. It's true gamblers can deduct their losses from their tax business expenses if their records are comprehensive and up-to-date. I am not aware of these laws because I have never really considered this privilege.

But this law might not be universal because I had to go through many tax websites and documents in my country and I didn't find such provision. I think it is applicable mostly in developed nations. But I have decided to start keeping a comprehensive record of all my gambling activities because such laws might be applied in future.
Exactly. First time I've ever heard of such a ridiculous law. I mean to be fair most casinos be it privatized or government-sanctioned still puts money to the community chest by means of taxes, but never did it strike me that a country so greedy/so lenient that they'd go so far as to charge you taxes for gambling lmao.
1610  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My $300 bet won $417,000 on: March 16, 2023, 07:50:04 PM
still quite curious about OP's track record, like if he/she wins 10% of the time but win big or 90% of the time
or anywhere in between

it's a pity he/she doesn't come here more often to clarify, share and answer questions
but that's ok too...

I believe that it is possible to earn these multipliers if you combine several factors such as luck, experience, knowledge of the sport you are betting on and the opportunity to make an excellent bet.
However, I think the OP didn't clarify what his losses were in that whole period, because to win such high stakes, he probably also lost a lot of high stakes before or after he managed to achieve these feats.

Briefly, I wanted to conclude that betting on sports really can be profitable and safe, but there is no easy win. One can get a little lucky, but it's very difficult to get rich quick without losing some money too.
Saw from his other posts, he wins a lot of his games and loses quite a few, but the games he lost are a little interesting so to speak. For one, he loses games that are no-brainers, which are games where the odds are literally laid in front of the eyes of the people and all they need to do was to bet. Second, though this is not as piquing as the other, is that he rarely loses bets, which is either a testament to his aptitude at betting on sports games, or a dead giveaway that he's using some form of technique to maximize the possibility of him winning most of these bets.

In any case, it doesn't really matter that much, he didn't come here to inspire, teach, or entice people to follow him on his path towards sports gambling greatness, if anything all he's doing is just flexing his wins, and that's alright. If I were him I'd flex the hell out of my wins too, especially those of OP's magnitude.
1611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue - WBC and WBO 122 lbs bout - May on: March 16, 2023, 07:01:05 PM
I agree. I am also hesitant to bet for the champion here and that's not because I am underestimating him, it's just that Naoya Inoue can be explosive especially now with his new goal to dominate the new weight class.
Plus, it's not like he leaped on higher heights, he just went upward one weight away which could be perfect for his body build. I mean, this could be the weight class where he perfectly fits and won't have any trouble when the weigh-ins happen.
So, he is comfortable and in condition. This is the formula for a boxer to win a fight, especially for a boxer who had gained a lot of experience fighting strong ones in his past fights.
Even if they will give an amount that is difficult to resist for Fulton, I won't take it.
Rightfully so, Naoya is a beast that has proven himself time and time again. He's still at his prime, packs the punch that literally defeated one of the greats in Nonito Donaire (although let's face it, Donaire's past his prime during their fight already), and well, he's very hungry to prove himself. This fight is not going to be easy for Fulton despite him sitting in the weight division he's in for quite some time now and Naoya just stepping up to face greater challenges. Naoya's going to give him a run for his money, and could possibly defeat him in his own weight division. Man's a beast that's all I gotta say.
1612  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK sponsored by Utopia on: March 16, 2023, 06:24:21 PM
Fury's fame is prolly getting over his head with all this ridiculous deals he ask of Usyk and the team. This is just unsportsmanlike and have it held the fight for too long would just make him look like he was stalling the fight or something. In any case I still believe he's going to win, prolly why he's pushing to get the bigger chunk from the cut instead of halving it nicely coz he knows he's gonna win and if he does it's just going to make things look great for him, and for his PR.
1613  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Nonito Donaire vs Alejandro Santiago for WBC bantamweight title on: March 16, 2023, 05:38:45 PM

^ Alejandro Santiago does not have a KO punch though which Donaire could really win despite him being older.

The one thing that's good about retiring while being a champ is that he is going to be remembered being a champ while if he retires while being beaten badly inside the ring, he will be remembered with his bloody face.
Probably the reason why he's fighting Santiago despite him saying (or rumors spreading) that he's going to retire after his last fight with Naoya. He doesn't want to be remembered as the guy who lost and then retired, and so do most boxers in my opinion so he's taking a jab at the possibility of bagging another win and another title before finally retiring. This kind of tactic is pretty common in the boxing industry particularly with boxers that have light to severe acclaim and public traction like Donaire. He wants to prove that he's not washed up and his age is not gonna stop him from getting this bag and the belt so he's taking the step to win against Santiago. Despite not having a KO punch i don't think Santiago's gonna go down easily against Donaire. He has the speed, and he also packs a punch though not as heavy as the ones Donaire throw. I think this is going to be a great fight win or lose for Donaire.
1614  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The journey of successful business man who were professional gamblers on: March 16, 2023, 04:57:34 PM
There's this story of someone who risked to gamble his own business and won. He's not really a professional gambler per se but it has been known that he's good at playing blackjack, that guy's Fred Smith, the Founder of FedEx, that courier company that treats your packages like they're made with kickable material (lmao). So anyways the story goes that once in FedEx's infancy, it has been short of more or less 7 grand in fuel fees, and not paying that fee on time would literally mean their business failing, so unbeknownst to his board members, he took whatever was left in their treasury and betted it all on blackjack, turns out his aptitude for blackjack paid handsomely and he bagged 30grand in the process. Was able to pay for the fuel and was able to save his business.

This is by no means a way to inspire all these wannabe pro gamblers, just a funny and a really cool story as well.
1615  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Free sports betting tip on: March 15, 2023, 09:20:06 PM
While OP has good intention of helping fellow gamblers, I think this will be a 50/50 situation.

There might be a chance that players who are interested in parlays will actively join the community and thus, will make an active community which the members can exchange opinions and suggestions aside from the main posts daily by OP to gather more information, knowledge, and perspective. However, of course, players will have to consider whether this will be worth the shot. Since like you said, ten years of experience doesn't constitute to a guaranteed right prediction and winning. Since the ways and strategies might be a little outdated or might not work for others the same way it worked for him.

But yeah, I still wish this will be a success, just never set an expectation too high though to avoid disappointment.
I believe following the tips of a person blindly isn't a very wise move at all, no matter how much experience they have, it is always better to do your due diligence before placing the bets just to double check your chances and just to have peace of mind that you've chosen the right side. There is no harm in spending a little bit of time if you are seriously doing it.

The tipsters are not always right, just like OP. I respect what he is doing and the experience that he has in the field, but I believe even he could be wrong as you said. So it is better for his followers to note his tips but then do their own research and analysis based on that before placing their bets.
Odd are there for a reason. OP did this with that in mind and he's not really saying anything, other than the fact that the odds are in disparity between these matches and these teams to give bettors a general better idea of who to bet on and who to not. It's for them to decide whether they'd take it up and bed on the advantage or pick the underdog, OP has no responsibility whatsoever over these people's bets. Besides, it's not like these people who do bet on games that OP stated here are following him BLINDLY information is literally stated in between each matches, so potential bettors easily will have a general idea of how these games may go. Jesus Christ you just can't let people have nice things these days.
1616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Random Number Generator and it's importance in Online Casinos on: March 15, 2023, 08:35:19 PM
Today, I am going to write briefly about the Random Number Generator(RGN) and its importance in online casinos. So basically, what the RNG does is to ensure that when we play our favoruite casino games, it creates random number, thereby ensuring that the result of every game are random and fair. No one would enjoy playing a game where they have no fair chance of winning. So, what is its mode of operation? If you play slots a lot you would have noticed that there are random symbols that appears on the reels. And when it does, it determines whether you have won some cents, a dollar, or more. There are complex algorithm that have generated the random symbols. The same thing applies to other online games too.

In the past, I used to think or believe that the random numbers generated were controlled by the owners of the online casinos. I was wrong. They have no control over it. Instead, there are companies that monitor it to ensure that the numbers generated are as random as they are. Imagine the manipulation and bias in the game results if online casinos had control over the RNG.

Personally, I feel that the RNG is the most important tool by which gamblers can measure an online casino's fairness, transparency, accountability, and honesty and that it operates in an ethical manner. For me this is the major role of the RNG in the online gambling industry.

As a gambler have you ever read up on how the RNG works in online casino games, or do you simply trust that it's functioning properly?

There's the case of they truly have no power or control over it, and then there's "let's make it look random so no one would notice". I've seen one too many shady gambling sites do the latter and fail at it which makes me wonder, what if such a thing does exist? Some feature that would make it look as if everything is controlled by an RNG and not by some parameters set in the coding that would put the favor to the casino? Coz that is a possibility as well yeah?

In any case, the existence of RNGs truly helped the online casino business to boom, and it's only getting better with all this provably fair shenanigans that is pretty much like an RNG as well but with the catch of it generating a random seed that foretells the outcome, and every user can retrace from this client seed to further prove that they are being honest.
1617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A costly gambling mistake on: March 15, 2023, 07:38:11 PM
I haven't seen anyone complain about not reading the FAQs and missing out on a lot of things that were supposed to be put in plain sight, you may be talking about ToS and Privacy Statements as some people in this post have pointed out. To that I will say it's also intentionally misleading how these Terms of Conditions and Terms of Service agreements are being written. All in convoluting and unintelligible corporate lingo, plus walls of text that only ever say one thing, this is done in order to have the person press the agree button immediately and have them not think about it anymore. If there's only a legislation that would enforce companies and bookies in this case to make their contracts more readable, that's really going to make a change.
1618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Serious topic, have these bookmakers ever robbed you? [Discussion] on: March 15, 2023, 06:41:57 PM
rule of thumb, only bet in sites that have accounts or connections here at bitcointalk, so you can easily contact them and ask for assistance if problems eventually arise. Matter of fact, don't even bet on sites that aren't that reputable to begin with. Coz that's how scammers trick people, they make you think you're safe, maybe even reel you in with generous "bonuses" you'll get if you deposit a certain amount, and then when you try to withdraw your earnings you'd get locked out of your account. I've been a victim of this one too many times in my journey with gambling, I knew too well to trust only those who have already great track records and never transact with sites that are too shady.
1619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Is for the strong. on: March 15, 2023, 05:46:09 PM
I smell copious amounts of regret on from the statements he gave out, which I don't really see as a bad thing because at least he recognizes that he should've instead invested the money to something worthwhile instead of burning it in the casino. In that regard, I will say I have not regretted gambling, not even when I lose. You're right, gambling is for the strong and sturdy, but it is also only for the people who exclusively see it as a form of entertainment. The moment you see gambling as a means to garner profit in one way or another, you're already in deep, deep trouble. Gambling isn't something you should think of if you wanna get money because its main purpose is to funnel all your money into the casino's pockets.
1620  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Some of my big losses (Gamble Responsibly) on: March 14, 2023, 08:37:03 PM
Props to you for being transparent and shutting these people down. Until this post I believe some people really believed you have some sort of strategy (which I believe you do but hell who doesn't yeah?) that you attribute for winning these high stakes games. In any case I am quite interested with the way you lost those "guaranteed games as you put it", considering they were guaranteed games anyway. plus studying your chart the losses aren't really that coming around often which could paint yourself as a messiah to these people who are seeking your help in order to win games. I highly suggest you keep your secret to yourself as it could just insinuate them gambling more, and if they lost the blame's gonna be put on you. Again props to being very transparent and honest.
