1701  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting fraud in Brazil 😦 on: February 17, 2023, 08:23:34 PM
If it's possible for this kind of competition for fraud to occur, how much more to much smaller competitions. There are local and regional competitions everywhere. Some games must be rigged. Some detected, some not.

Here, there was also a national basketball competition where a team was obviously throwing the game. It was Manny Pacquiao himself who filed the case against those who were involved in the fixing.

I also have a neighbor who was a pro DOTA II player. He and his team were involved in match fixing. They were banned by Valve itself.

Fraud is also rampant in sports.
Bribing and game fixing is pretty common on small-scale tournaments and local games. I've heard about a whole basketball team being investigated because of how lame they played comparing to their previous ones, I believe this was in 2019 or so. Since these games are low-stakes and would probably not fill seats in the stadium, as an athlete accepting bribes and fixing games is your best bet at earning quick bucks, of course at the expense of the integrity of the game that you devoted your whole life to. Although there are multiple parameters set now that are aimed at reducing if not outright preventing game fixing and sports fraud, as you have said, there's still a huge number that flies off the radar undetected.
1702  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin gambling problem on: February 15, 2023, 09:54:00 PM
Thanks for having the courage to share it here, Op. Sometimes people who are experiencing compulsive gambling only need advice from the ex-gambler's community which can remind them and help them find ways to control their urge of betting. Having a helpful community that will have concern for other gamblers who are experiencing worse gambling addiction cases will surely save a lot of people. This is a good initiation.
Honestly, I would always take professional help as the best mode of coping in these types of situations. I've seen outreach and support groups fail because all of them are victims of the same type of issue and none were really able to offer them an outside perspective let alone professional help within the circle. Yes it's good that you're not alone with the problem. But merely recognizing that you do have something to be concerned about and realizing millions of people suffer the way you do is just a step towards full recovery, you always need to get professional care and treatment to be able to recover effectively, trust me.

From the looks of it it seems like OP's site includes or at least will open the possibility of including a professional in discussions like these. That is great and something that I will really get behind of.
1703  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Choosing between your relationship and gambling. on: February 15, 2023, 09:12:22 PM
A year will never be enough to get to know a person really well and I don't think their love for each other already has a strong foundation. Deciding to get married that early will surely have doubts along thr way as they discover each other's weaknesses.
As for me, it isn't a reason enough to leave a person because he is into gambling especially if you're committed to that person. You must not compare him to other gamblers as long as you don't know how he deals with gambling. Instead of dragging the person down, he should get to know him well first because there are still worse things that they could discover about each other along the way.
But you gotta admit, both of them make sound points here. You can't really blame the woman for having so negative connotations about gambling when it's clearly hidden against her wishes in the first place, and to find out that your fiancee's gambling almost everyday behind your back? That's just abhorring. There's hardly any comparison to be made if your girl finds out you're gambling almost everyday, and you hid it from her. On the other hand, it's not so smart of the girlfriend to give an ultimatum like that. It's just childish and very narrow-minded of her. If we're to take the cousin's word for it and he's indeed gambling responsibly, then good for him. But just as what I've said in my last post, they need to talk this one out in private and in detail, from there they can decide whether they wanted to continue with the relationship or not. Either way, it will work great for them.
1704  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Choosing between your relationship and gambling. on: February 15, 2023, 05:25:37 PM
There's currently a heated issue between an older cousin of mine and his fiancee, it's a gambling related issue that's now looking like a threat to their relationship. Here's what happened;

My cousin as I know has been an active gambler for as long as I could remember and he's one person that gamble responsibly as he takes it as something that's part of a side hustling and nothing more and he added that the winning streaks he has been getting has really been supportive to him financially too. I get to know this cause that's what he told me when I asked him why does he have to engage in online gambling when he has a good paying job. The disturbing issue here is that a day ago his fiancee whom both have been dating for about a year now, she for the first time had access into his mail and discovered lots of email messages both previous and current from the particular gambling sites he has a gambling account with and her awareness of this has made her to ask my cousin to either chose between quiting from engaging in any form of gambling or ending their relationship.
Her reasons is because she has this brother that's into gambling and his gambling habit has led to him selling off important properties of his and some that belongs to the whole family just to meet up with his uncontrollable gambling urge. And this experience scares her to death having anything to do with anyone she notice that engages in gambles activities especially for someone she's in a serious relationship with, that she can't deal with such reality.

I'll really appreciate to have you share some advise on what decision to take if you were to find yourself in this my cousin shoe. For It's been a difficult moment for him this past two days as he has  been thinking of the financial support he at times get from the gambling wins and at same time his fiancee too.
Both make good points actually, but are innately wrong at their own right as well. For instance, your cousin doesn't have to gamble religiously, even if he's what you can consider as someone who's a responsible gambler. Dishing out hundreds of dollars on a regular basis all for gambling is a little detrimental especially when it stockpiles, so I can see why the girl is concerned that your cousin might've been addicted already. In any case, the woman is also making a valid point here, although It is worth noting that for instance, the girl is actively controlling your cousin's life. This is not a good sign of a woman that you'd want to stay with for the rest of your life, as you'd find yourself eventually wrapped around her finger controlled by her every directive with no active motivation of your own. Also, she's speaking from a previous experience, which is not to say that she could be right, but is something that's giving the idea of someone who's traumatized in one way or another.

All in all, I'd have the two people discuss this matter clear-headed and with no biases involved. If they wish to carry on with the relationship, few compromises must be made by both parties. If they decided to part ways, that works too.
1705  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin gambling problem on: February 15, 2023, 04:35:43 PM
Hi!
A few days ago, we were contacted by a platform helping people with gambling problems.
It's an online international platform with courses, self-assessment tests, videos, and a big community of ex gamblers.
I know there are people here that gamble too much, it's easily done. If you have problems, contact them. All their services are free to use.
I thought it was a good resource to share here. You find the platform here: https://quitgamble.com.

May the force be with you!
/A
I think support group like these are important in helping victims of gambling addiction get a grip of reality and break the cycle of addiction within themselves. If this platform is proven to be a good site with promising results in terms of at least effectively reaching out to gamblers and providing them with all the mental and other forms of assistance they need except monetary, cause we all know where they'd probably spend it on if given the chance, then that's great and I'd be more than happy to recommend it even along with you guys.

Gambling addicts are as self-destructive and dangerous as addicts of other objects, so it is important that they get all the help they could to recover and get back to being functional members of society.
1706  Economy / Economics / Re: Can I take a loan to invest in bitcoin? on: February 13, 2023, 11:34:27 PM
Multiple topics have been made with this thought in mind. The answer of the people in this forum remains the same: Whatever floats your boat. There's a good idea behind using debts to power your investments but personally, ss a small-scale investor that knows jack about how the stock market works, or crypto infustry for that matter, I wouldn't be so confident as to head in face-first into investing, let alone something that I have to repay along with the interest. I would highly suggest you adequately inform yourself first and foremost about the ins and outs of the industry before investing money, and if you reslly are decided about taking a loan and using it to invest then go for it, but make no mistake, cryptocurrencies are highly volatile and your 100 today could easily turn to 70, 60, 50, or even 40 tomorrow.
1707  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic implications of a US-China-Taiwan conflict on: February 13, 2023, 10:54:30 PM
Both US and China-Taiwan have huge influence to economy, it would cause a crisis in every country because almost all countries are depends on neither US or China-Taiwan. But I don't think it's become a war like Russia-Ukraine where each country will hurt the other using military weapons, I would think both country will try to restrict or limit a way of the export and import which is an economy war. Then it's depends on US and China-Taiwan if they will start to war using military weapons or not, because they wouldn't being silent if they can't make money anymore.
Just a little correction, Taiwan doesn't have an economic power that is as influential as China's but what it lacks in economic ppwer, it makes up with creating allies within its borders, and the west. Taiwan, has gained the favor of USA and thus will loop them in, along with suballies of the dtate possibly, should a full-scale war against China commence. If a war were to happen between these three nation-states it will not be like the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, it will be of a larger scale considering the firepower each of these countries could put out. Ultimately, I do hope that China lets go of their chokehold on Taiwan and have things end in a diplomatic manner.
1708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People will choose bitcoins more if the number of cryptocurrency option is less. on: February 13, 2023, 05:49:37 PM
People will choose bitcoin more if they knew about bitcoin. That's basically it. Diversity in the cryptocurrency industry is very much needed, and is practically what keeps the industry alive. Without it, stagnation and a complete collapse of the system will follow suit. So whittling the choices down in favor of bitcoin is just going to cause more problems than benefits. Going back to my point, I concur that bitcoin will have a larger userbase if it was more suited to the general userbase of cryptocurrencies. That is if it was cheaper to transact with, faster, and more reliable, but we can't have our cake and eat it too, so we're stuck with a version of bitcoin that is better as a store of value than as a currency. Not saying that it is bad, but in the grand scheme of things, you couldn't really blame people for choosing other cryptocurrencies.
1709  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Withdrawing Bitcoin off the radar on: February 13, 2023, 03:25:15 PM
Hello there,

As I was driving earlier, this thought came through my mind. I've been accumulating Bitcoin for quite some time now, and at some point eventually I'll have to withdraw it in fiat, at least some of it. I'm not sure when that time will come, and I'm definitely not selling for anything below $50,000, but that's another story. However, I've always kept my bitcoin away from exchanges, and I prefer that it stays that way for obvious reasons that have been discussed numerous times in the forum.

Not only do I want to avoid exchanges but also banks, which is currently the most convenient way to withdraw money, but if I were to move funds to a bank account, they'd get taxed at 24%, which is a huge percentage. I've also thought about Bitcoin ATMs, but the majority of them here require some sort of KYC and feature expensive fees, although they may still be a better option than bank transfers. Is there an actual, reliable way to exchange bitcoin for cash in hand? My best guess would be a P2P transaction in person, but that's quite unlikely.
I would've suggested using P2P since you're biggest enemy here will be the banks but you mentioned how you wanted to stay away from exchanges as much as possible so yeah. But in totality you wouldn't really have much options left if you were to rule exchanges out of your options, as you can easily take money in and out of exchanges nowadays, especially with Binance. Although honestly speaking you could still retain that sense of anonymity if you were to just withdraw money from that you need or want. You don't have to haul every single satoshi on your wallet and put it over an exchange for withdrawal, unless that's what you want. I myself have been off the radar relatively by keeping a cold wallet with me. If I find that I need to cash out a few extra bucks, I do so by transfering the exact amount I need plus extra for gas fees and I call it a day. I guess you could do the same thing as well.
1710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright suing 16 Bitcoin developers on: February 12, 2023, 09:21:41 PM
Old news. He has been suing people since 2019. He's like the Billy Mitchell of the crypto industry. Self-proclaimed founder of the biggest dtore of value on the planet, can't prove it, and sues everyone who rubs him off the wrong way. I wouldn't trust nor be scared of anything this guy puts out. He's basically a joke at this point. For instance, his claims of Bitcoin Devs being able to push codes to pass satoshi ownership to him is just plain stupid. Of course they can possibly do it. But is it democratic, is it something the public would agree? Not really. I don't know how his evidences hold up in court but I doubt anyone ever takes this guy seriously except I guess his mom and his lawyers. Let's move on to bigger things, Craig Wright is old news.
1711  Economy / Economics / Re: Saving is Wasting? on: February 12, 2023, 08:23:21 PM
Being a student is so hard nowadays. I've been spending a lot for school requirements and different activities related to education. I'm stuck with this saying "SAVING IS WASTING", thinking that with the little amount of money I have, should I put it on an investment or should I just save it for my future expenses or emergencies. I'm also living in a country in which there are limited side hustles I could do to earn extra for investment, so I'm troubled somehow.
Being unemployed while pursuing your degree is one of the worst experiences ever. You can't even save what little you get especially if you don't live in developed countries cause what you got's most likely only going to be dedicated for survival. In any case, if you have any extra lying around, I would highly suggest you save them up and start an investment fund, or maybe if that really wouldn't work, Find out a skill you're quite knowledgeable about, create one if you don't have any, and use it to profit. I wasn't a writer until the pockets called for it, so I busted my ass trying to perfect my craft, even going so far as to accept free work for my clients just so I can prove my integrity to them, it all paid off eventually. Not saying this could happen to you too, or that you should subject yourself to free labor just to gain cred, but that's the most effective way to really garner client's attention nowadays.
1712  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The biggest casino property... on: February 11, 2023, 11:17:06 PM
$6b is only for the casino property, and just imagine how much they have in their bankroll plus the money that they should have in order to pay for the maintenance and upkeep, operating costs, and salary of all their employees. I just can't fathom how these huge casinos make that much money, but I guess there are still a lot of rich people who don't know what to do with what they have hence they end up in the casino and waste their money there.
That means the casino business is really a making huge income out from those random gamblers who might be staying for vacation or from their regular players who are mostly high rollers. I wouldn’t be surprised about that because Marina Bay Sands serves as the center of attraction in Singapore so obviously, a lot of tourists would target this place for pleasure and entertainment purposes.
I'm guessing they don't solely get funds from the gamblers because if so they wouldn't expand to much larger ventures. As far as I know Marina Bay Sans is more than just a casino, it's also a hotel, complex, etc. (I forgot which other amenities they offer) so they must've gotten funds somehow from all those ventures. It has been a common tactic among these casinos to also offer other services than just entertainment in the form of gambling.
I never imagined that the gambling business would be treated as an exclusive business, like in that article, because, looking at the building, it looked very large and spacious. And when we enter the room, we will be amazed to see that it is full of gambling machines that we can play in turn. This will make us curious and want to play it and of course, we will spend a lot of money to try the game one by one.

It is not surprising that many rich people will spend a lot of money to satisfy their desire to play gamble. And for the average gambler, I don't think it's the right place to have fun Grin
Again, the building in itself is not made exclusively for gambling. There's a lot of services offered within the area that is not related to gambling whatsoever, but one thing's for sure is that these are top-of-the-line world-class amenities. That's why they can afford to remain operational.
1713  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is Gambling? ChatGPT Responses. on: February 11, 2023, 09:55:21 PM
When we're bored, we can ask anything to chatgpt. All of its answers are based on the facts that are given to it but I wonder how they have programmed this AI.
It's like almost every response that it gives is near accurate but not all of it. If it's related to this topic asking a bot about what gambling is, we'll just get generic answers from it.

The AI is continuously learning through neural networks. It's like training it to speak over and over again based on the inputs that it's receiving from users and from its original data set. It's programmed in a way to learn just like the brain, and its AI is really intelligent to get accurate results/responses to whatever question it's thrown at. For the gambling aspect, well it's a pretty basic concept, and it just needs to interchange between words that it deems appropriate to use based on the nature of the question.
At first I didn't believe that ChatGPT is given Reinforcement learning given the fact that most of its data is gathered from the net during 2021 and before. But it helps to know that ChatGPT is learning from the way humans respond to it. As of now ChatGPT, and I say this as a writer myself, talks like a 5th-6th grader, but I have high confidence that it can improve with its language model and be able to perform better feats in the future, such as predicting various outcomes based on given data.  Although I would just like to point out that what it boasts in intelligence, it lacks in confidence, you can literally bully it into thinking that 57 is a prime number, or 2+2=5 for that matter, so that is something that OpenAI should work on if they want ChatGPT to be a reliable source of information like they're making it out to be.
1714  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Stephen Fulton vs. Naoya Inoue - WBC and WBO 122 lbs bout - May on: February 11, 2023, 09:03:27 PM
Yes, because if we based on the reality, only few boxers with smaller weights are popular, the only one I know is Inoue and he will become more popular because he is moving up on his weight class. This is definitely the kind of journey Manny Pacman had succeeded in the past, that's why he was the only 8th division champion because he started from smaller weights and increase his weight but still dominate the bigger boxers.

Manny Pacquiao could have been a 10 division champion if he didn't skipped 2 division when he decided to go up in weight.  Anyhow, I heard that Inoue is somehow tense about this upcoming fight.  Since this is his first time fighting in the heavier Division and he is worried about his preparation since he doesn't know if his preparation is enough for the fight.

I guess that's somehow expected from Naoya Inoue and his team because even if we say that a few pound difference is somehow nothing and won't matter, we shouldn't forget that Fulton owns this division and is already used to the weight when fighting unlike Inoue where this is his first time in the weight class and is already facing the 2-belt world champion. But still, my vote and money goes for Inoue in this bout. It will be hard to defy him after witnessing his greatness in the previous division.
Exactly. I think that's a postulate when it comes to fighting a seasoned boxer in a particular weight division. The self-inflicted pressure of keeping up with the people's standards and most of all finding an edge against a fighter who is very confident and comfortable with his weight is going to be a problem. Inoue knows that much. But I believe he'd be able to give us a good fight, if not win the game for himself. Inoue seems to follow Pacquiao's trends, starting small and working his way up to higher weight divisions, but unless he wows me or proves to me that he has the same potential as the Pacman himself, I'm not going to get my hopes up looking for a new pound-for-pound king.
1715  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ POLL ] The Unification Fight: FURY vs USYK sponsored by Utopia on: February 11, 2023, 08:22:51 PM
Honestly, if this deal falls through, and Fury ends up fighting another Chisora I think he'd lose me as a fan, which is mad to say because I honestly think he's the best of this generation. I just can't be arsed for his antics. Sometimes they can be funny, and entertaining like the batman suit. However, the squabbling over contracts constantly, and not giving the fans what they want is annoying. Especially, when he's probably got two big fights left realistically. Just get it done, beat Usyk, then beat Joshua, and he could become the undisputed greatest of his generation. At the moment, there's question marks over it, even though I think he wipes the floor with both of these men personally.

At this stage of his career, I thought he'd be more interested in cementing that image in people's head, rather than money. The Fury family have plenty of money, and I always thought once you get to a certain amount of money which the Fury family certainly have hit, there's no real point going for excessive amounts, just live your life at that point.
Exactly. I get that they have to prolong and stall his biggest fights to make more money and better prepare him but at this point everything is so redundant that it's almost annoying, although for me really I feel like they are painting Chisora to be his Antithesis and thus they get promos more often. And even though I don't really care for his antics, I get why they need to do all of that. As for this fight, I have my bets placed on Fury, mostly because I don't really know who Usyk is lmao, but also because I know how powerful and hungry Fury is. Just wish they don't do him dirty this time.
1716  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: February 11, 2023, 07:19:12 PM

Gamblers will definitely be able to adapt to the current situation because if there are already a lot of gamblers who use AI well and can benefit from using AI, they should also find a way to try it. AI is a tool to help us do something so that we can do it properly and quickly, and using AI to get information about the teams that will compete will give us a faster time in collecting the data. And we can also find out how much the percentage of each team is.

Yup, gamblers who are keen to find ways to have some decent advantages will try to explore and use it to make a good analysis when picking the right game to bet, I'm sure there's people who already exploring and trying the opportunity that this AI is now providing not an assurance but some data that can be usable to analyze well.

This data is worthy if ever you are aiming to pick games and see if which team/player do have a decent advantaged in winning the game.
Yes, it's true what you say. Perhaps some developers have launched a Beta for this program in the field of gambling but haven't said anything to the public. And perhaps that AI will be devoted to sports betting, which will help bettors to collect more complete and accurate information.

After some discussion in this thread, it makes me curious if this AI for sports betting has been launched. Surely there will be many curious people who want to try it too. And if they can win easily because they already have accurate information, it will make other people interested in using it.
No official launches yet, just some people who thought it was a great idea to waste time and use chatgpt's limited intelligence to make predictions over games that are happening in the present. AI sports betting will be a viable prediction method in the future however, especially if we are introduced to an AI model that is learning as fast as the prompts given to it are, although that is a bif risky considering how stupid and reckless some people may be when it comes to asking stuff to be done. All in all, it's an inevitable path to our future now. AI has been and is slowly being integrated into out lives.
1717  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Features in Crypto Casinos for the Elderly on: February 10, 2023, 11:45:40 PM
Your uncle must be happy when he finds out that you are into crypto because finally there will now be someone to teach him about it and then he can now play on crypto-based casinos. I am not sure if there is a crypto casino who has a video tutorial about them but so far I only saw some of them who had a FAQ about crypto and on how to use it.

I guess that was enough already. We shouldn't expect more from them because they are only a casino and not a crypto wallet or a crypto trading platform. Many of them are now supporting fiat and bank payments so one should not stress themselves about crypto if they find it too complex.
There are a lot of tutorials over the internet that tackle basic steps like setting up crypto accounts, funding them, connecting to a casino of choice and navigating through sites to find a game you want to gamble, there's an overabundance of rhese tutorials that OP would have no problem looking for them. It's just a matter of choice. I am quite appalled at some people here airing out regret and pity for the old man just because he's gambling even in his 60s when there's people out there wasting their lives away without any self-actualization, but I digress.
1718  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Features in Crypto Casinos for the Elderly on: February 10, 2023, 10:18:12 PM
I regret it if an older person still thinks about gambling, even if that person says he gambles just for fun. We will never know when we will experience gambling addiction. And once it comes, it will attack people of all ages. Even older people can experience it. You better suggest to your uncle to use crypto, especially bitcoin as their investment instead of using it for gambling.

I think casinos can also provide tutorials about using crypto on their sites so that ordinary people can know how to play gambling using crypto.

To add to what you've just said, older people base on research diminish in strength and love for activities they were once used to, gambling is fun but they may not have that tenacity to think on how to bet without making mistakes, they can get use to doing some sort of exercise or little plays that can be brain teaming aside gambling, they should be eating with their little money in their hands and maintaining themselves than using it for gambling.
From the looks of it I think his Uncle's well-off or at least getting by, so no financial instability is gonna stop him from doing what he's so invested about. Add to this the fact that he has very little time in his hands now that he's old, so to trash on his ideals and things that he loves just because "It doesn't feel right to me" is just laughable. Basically let the man enjoy what he wants. We weren't even given enough context to suppose that that's all he does with his spare time, what makes you think he's not healthy, let alone doing things for himself that is considered healthy?

1719  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do casino and sports betting platform owners gamble as much as other people? on: February 10, 2023, 09:28:54 PM
Farmers who have chickens for eggs especially on a large scale, easily get tired of eating the eggs from their chickens or even eggs in general. Caterers get tired of eating their own pastries, just as people who are exposed to certain produce get tired of them due to over exposure. Do you think this experience is the same for casino owners and owners of sports betting platforms?

Do you think that the owners of casinos and sports betting platform, gamble as much as other people do? If they gamble, do you think they gamble on their platform?

I do think some of them gamble, but not for profits of course, perhaps to get closer to the people that matters most, like high-rollers or people of influence in the government. Connections basically, is what would possibly drive them to gamble even inside their own casinos. Then again there's also the case of observing your competitors, so some owners may find themselves gambling in a different casino just to see what they are doing different in hopes of topping it off or maybe even copying the same strategy in theirs. Ultimately I can also see scouting for new games to include in their game roster as a reason why these owners may gamble. There's a lot of reasons why you as an owner would gamble, whichever it is, it's not solely for money, and most certainly not to just waste time.
1720  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What most gamblers do. on: February 10, 2023, 08:44:44 PM
Gamblers aren't the best people to turn to for financial advice. There's a reason a huge percentage of them burn through their winnings in a span of 5 years or so with little to no savings left from their prize money. As in the case with people in Nigeria, and correct me if I'm wrong with this. Your country is greatly impoverished and a large portion of your population has problems with residence and hunger. With that in mind you wouldn't really blame them for not being financially literate because let me tell you this, being financially literate is a privilege that only pays when you have extra money lying around, which is obviously not the case with these people, because if that is true they wouldn't even gamble in the first place. So for me, it's all a matter of circumstance and some by choice that led them to where they are now. We can't really blame them when you're constantly reminded that you need to eat the next day.
