1961  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why can't regular flash drives store Bitcoin on: May 01, 2023, 07:58:11 PM
Genuinely surprised by how even some established members of bitcointalk still suggest backing up wallets in digital format, completely ignoring the enormous mountain of incidents with lost coins due to the corresponded security risks of backing up likewise.

Well, it's OP who wanted a cheap portable wallet made out of a flash drive so most went along with his scenario. The utility of having an entire working wallet on a flash drive and not just the encrypted seeds you can extract when in need and import into the laptop or computer you would anyhow need to actually use the coins kind of fails to impress me.

But still, I assume most looked at it from the point of having around easy access to spendable coins, not about securing life savings, if the second I would 100% agree with you.
1962  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered mining only during sunlight and without batteries on: May 01, 2023, 07:35:54 PM
You have got them mixed up, solar panels generate low voltage DC, asicminers just like most other electronics require AC at the PSU input, the PSU of course will have to convert that AC to DC to run the miner's chips, but you can't just feed the miner with DC and expect it to work, it won't for so many reasons that are not best fit in this topic.

Yeah a total mess but I can see where it came from, he said he bought a small panel that had a USB port, this is where the confusion started, there are a ton of small foldable panels on Amazon that have a DC output for charging phones or laptops, and there are small solar panels for security cameras also, as all of them run on DC on either 12 or 15W. I have one of those for emergencies when I go hiking but honestly, if it weren't so light compared to what I'm used carrying, one power bank is way better, but less funny!

Back to the issue at hand, I'm not sure how he is running those asics on 10kw panels, he has 2x1350, 3250, and 3x 1050W, so 9150W.
He is getting barely 10% excess so no way to run this setup but during the day as he won't have the time to fill the battery unless he shuts the miners way before sunset when he can still squeeze in 2-3 hours the equivalent of one full peak power hour of production to fill the battery for load balancing but this will get him even less running time each day.

1963  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Your thoughts on crypto exhcnages. on: May 01, 2023, 07:03:47 PM
My second take is that exchanges are representing crypto and bitcoin in some ways. They try to get licenses in countries, deal with the government, and, in general, are the face of crypto for some people.

This goes against decentralization as you go back to having a representative that can negotiate things on behalf of people he doesn't know and who hasn't their vote or trust, and in some cases, not just one it ends far worse. This whole thing of having someone represent Bitcoin ended badly years ago with the Bitcoin Foundations' failures and scandals, so why stick to something like this?
Exchanges should represent only their business and their company, nothing else.

In my opinion, exchanges are great for people who want to try buying crypto and don't want to dig into a ditails. I think it helps more people to "experience" Bitcoin and I think most of them are then more to wallets when they realize how crypto actually works.

BATMS does a way better job than exchanges or an entry point with no extra steps.
First, you don't go through the risks of KYC for small sums, it forces you to already have your wallet, so to respect the "not your keys, not your coins"  law and it also gives you far more anonymity, which is a thing for sure you're going to regret losing and you won't feel tempted by the huge numbers of shitcoins exchange advertise since BATMS barely support a few coins.

And despite what others have said, for somebody who just wants to see how Bitcoin works, I would still recommend a BATM over some P2P exchange, P2P still involves a 3rd party, a bank transfer, or any other 3rd party payment solution to pay for those coins, too many headaches for a newbie who is interested in how the coin's tech, not in trading, buying and selling for $.
1964  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: CRYPTO FOR CHEAP!!!! on: May 01, 2023, 01:13:21 PM
Purchase Unlimited Crypto with a variety of payment methods at 0 additional fees (transaction fees still apply we suggest using LTC)

So, if I want to purchase BTC cheap you recommend using LTC?  Grin

OP, to end this once and for all, just say it, you use Binance spot rate, you use +1% on coinmarket aggregate, or something like that.
It's not that you sell or you can sell BTC at a fixed rate of exactly 28000 both today and one week from now.
As for the $20 upfront fee, just drop it, nobody will pay it!

One of the basic problems currently is that you receive payments in cryptocurrencies (Irreversible payment) and then promise to send the money using a reversible payment method.

Well, he claims he's accepting Paypal for crypto so technically he's also taking a risk the other way around, that is, if he plans to send you the coins at all.
Anyhow, that $20 is just so shady, making me think he's after that rather than the whole deal.

1965  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Need a trust Site Cloud Mining on: May 01, 2023, 11:39:52 AM
I just know after you guys tell me, and yes it actually profitable but razor thing margin and we need 3 month to get return of investment for now it is not worth it too, it is better to buy with DCA technique and maybe the return will more than this.

* Hashrate Fee 0.02 + Electricity Fee 0.0531 = 0.0731/USD/T/Day (the historical output 0.0776/USD/T/Day - Fee 0.0731/USD/T/Day = 0.0045/USD/T/Day

I wonder where the 23% comes from

So right now it's 0.0777 in profit with 0.0200+0.0531, a bit better than yours but still, you get
0.0731 in expenses and 0.0777 in revenue, which is 0.0041 in profit, so a 5% margin, nowhere near a 23% stated there.
Taking into account the current mempool spam that drove the fees up and you get a 5% bonus from this which might not be there tomorrow the profit is paper thin, one tiny dif increase and you're losing coins.

I only know 3 of them Binance, Nicehash, and miningrigrentals are currently trusted sites who offer renting hashrate/Cloud mining.

Bitdeer, which is actually the only one that has its own hashrate as it's run by Bitmain and it's not simply a reseller of rented hash rate from a pool.
Oh, and their price plan is better than Binance
Hashrate Fee: $0.0172/T/D vs $0.0200/T/D

1966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Justin caught red-handed cheating on Binance staking event on: May 01, 2023, 11:26:29 AM
Luckily blockchain is transparent which record all the shady transactions of con artist like justin. When jail time to this guy?

For what?
As far as I understand he moved some tokens to get a bigger pie of an airdrop in which you receive tokens based on your holdings, right?
CZ comment is the one stupid here, Justin did in this situation exactly what blockchains were designed to do, allowing everyone to move how many coins they want where they want, it's actually Binance that is going against these principles by dictating in a commie way how much you're allowed to get, ignoring the actual balances.

I’m pertaining to all his previous action of price manipulation. Also the issue here was he is partnered on this particularly launch pool event which means he is not allowed to participate since he literally controlled the majority of the supply of TUSD tokens.

So much for decentralization, so you're not allowed to participate if you own more than x, and you have a reason why that should be?
Next step, no more transactions over 0.001 satoshis are allowed, coins should be for the masses, not for whales, right?  Wink

This is why three letter agencies are scared too.

Reading this after reading hundreds of pages on users here claiming that a terrorist attack is happening on Bitcoin with jpg monkeys, that spam done by people minting memes on the chain is killing normal daily transactions and it's making the true purpose of Bitcoin unachievable, thinking those evil three letter agencies are scared of a protocol that can be killed by 10x10 pixels is kind of.... Possibly my favorite piece of terrorism is this chess game built from scratch, simply stunning that the entire thing is only about 12.1 kb:

1968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2023] Fees quite low! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: May 01, 2023, 09:14:09 AM
It's rare for fees to go up in the weekend though. It looks like many people started consolidating after mempool was empty for the first time in months.

That's definitely not what's happening right now, only exchanges are doing a bit of consolidation as they anyhow pass the fees to the customers, with only a brief moment of 6sat/b confirmations normal users probably are not planning on doing it for weeks.

Besides, if it were for consolidations we wouldn't have a record in Bitcoin transactions, as consolidations would be bigger in size and thus less possible individual transactions in a block. The culprit is brc20 tokens, which unlike the previous ordinals are no longer constrained by a huge fee based on their size, back then when they were minting they were keeping it under 3-4 sat at max, now, it's different.
Until this new hype dies down I assume we're going to have another weekend with mempool going up rather than down.
1969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin reaches record high # of daily transactions on: April 30, 2023, 12:21:13 PM
Interesting is that the record is also happening with relatively normal block time, we don't have a record of blocks in the last 24 hours, just 148 so far from times when we even had over 160 for two or three days one after other.

As for why this is happening, not so many are going to like the reason, it's again "spam" or how did they call it, a "terrorist" attack on bitcoin!

Their domain Lookup said they are from USA. 18 San Carlos Street, Los Angeles, California is their registration address. Of course, this is a fake address to register their domain. Since the business is to scam people, there is no reason they will register with their original information.

They use whoissecure, the address you see is the address and contact information of the service.
Not necessarily a scam just from that, Binance s doing the same for example:
https://whois.domaintools.com/binance.com

But the funny part with these guys is definitely this one:

I am sorry to see that you have taken the time to spread misinformation about HeliosFund.io, despite the fact that we have hundreds of active users and businesses who have already found our services to be both safe and profitable.

You have nothing!
If you had anything you wouldn't have changed your plan on what your business is about 100 times.
You were supposed to be a mining farm, then an investment fund, then a defi then an Ico then a mess of everything and the only thing you managed to be is a pure scam.

So you're just a desperate scammer that begs left and right for investors to finally get some money besides your unemployment check if you even qualify for one of those. This scam has been going on for far too long, just drop it, nobody believes your crap, and nobody will believe it anytime soon because it's simply ridiculous and everyone with a once functioning synapse will realize what garbage of a project this is.

You were supposed to be fully licensed in the EU in 2021, yet even now your license is still pending. Just lol!!!!
If you indeed had those 300% APY returns, it's again 3 years since you started you should have multiplied $1k into $80k, why are you still begging for peanuts?
Just go away, go and scam somewhere else, at least bitcointalk scammers, no matter how despicable they are they know when to call it quits!

Oh, and for every possible victim reading just the last page and a bit of SEO
Heliosfund is a scam, stay away from it!
1972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin continue to safe life in the face of financial crisis on: April 30, 2023, 10:38:30 AM
By any chance, do you have a link on the article(if there is), regarding this? I'm a bit shocked that online payments are not accessible but Bitcoin is?

The source is trust me bro, I heard from a friend of a relative of a guy who meet his stepmom on Tinder that she once dreamt of this!

The simple problem with this story is that if the guy who pays in Bitcoin does so because there is no access to other fiances, why is the other guy accepting it since he has no way of cashing out and how does he pay for the stuff? I met a ton of Ukraine refugees last year, they all were trying to exchange hrivnas for USD or euros, they all had either cash in USD or euros, and they had a few debit cards, in the tens of trips in welcoming centers, I've never heard on asking if he can pay in Bitcoin.
It's a psychological thing, and it won't change in decades, when running for your life you want value you can touch and that can be easily changed in times of need, not something you like this. It's not Bitcoin's fault for being so perceived but it's hard to change how humans think, it will take a while.

Some of those on the evacuation journey have to reach out to families and well-wishers seeking for funding to help ease their pain and since there are no bank networks in the desert and no way to send or receive fiat money, I suggested the use of Bitcoin to get money across to a friend who is stuck, and all we needed to do was to send the money to his Bitcoin wallet without any restrictions or delays.

Yeah, cool story, and what has he done with those bitcoins since he had no way to transfer them or exchange them to fiat?
He paid who with coins, and why did those guys take coins when they also had nowhere to spend them, since, you said it, it was a desert, quite a funny looking desert with 5G poles every kilometer? And why did the guy abandon them and suddenly decided then to continue the trip when he got Bitcoins, why didn't they pay him in coins the entire sum from the start?

Seriously, lock this farce!

1974  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Come and mine Bitcoin in Africa. on: April 30, 2023, 09:52:28 AM
I agree that PV-panels cannot generate electricity at night, but the energy generated during the day can be stored in batteries and used to power your station at night. I know that batteries can be expensive but they can be a worthwhile investment as they enable the project to provide electricity around the clock, making it a more viable and sustainable option.

So my point here is, if they can overcome the initial cost hurdle, then the project could still be feasible imo.

If it's feasible, why is nobody doing it?
Simple, because the cost of the batteries will never be offset, especially since you need a ton and you're going to have a full cycle every day.
If by overlapping with solar panels thus maximizing the interval in which you generate enough power to 12 hours as you don't generate electricity immediately after sunrise, you will still need to power one miner for the other 12 hours on batteries, one 3KW miner means 36 KWH, so that's half the battery of an electric car, that's going to have 365 cycles a year so it will be dead in 5 years at most, not to mention losing capacity, make the cheapest option possible with half used batteries sand you're up for another $10k upfront and $10k your miners needs to recover, this will an s19 makes around 3k a year before electricity.
Feasible? No!!!

Not all countries in Africa have high temperatures, but in areas where temperatures can reach 40 to 50 degrees Celsius, miners could set up a large solar energy facility to generate all the electricity needed for their business, including the mining equipment and cooling systems (when the temperature is very high).
This would create a cool and favorable atmosphere for mining operations within the company with a fully set up station with PV panels would be established outside to produce electricity. It is important to note that this project would require significant initial investment.

You're basically telling people that with enough investment you can build greenhouses and grow tomatoes in Svalbard.
Yes, you can, but why is nobody doing it?  Wink

1975  Economy / Economics / Re: food supply Blockchain technology. on: April 29, 2023, 10:35:35 AM
From the article:

Quote
Using solutions like those powered by UNISOT (using nChain technology), every step in the life cycle of a food product, from farm to plate, can be tracked and traced, creating hitherto unforeseen transparency and true accountability. Everything from the farm something is grown on, to the chain of custody along the supply chain, to the conditions in storage facilities and transport vehicles, can be tracked and traced, leaving an immutable record on the blockchain for all to see.

When consumers pick up an item in a supermarket or order something in a restaurant, they’re able to see all of this information just by scanning a Q.R. code. This allows customers to make more informed decisions, providing them with certainty that the food they’re about to consume has been produced in a way that’s compatible with their values and that it is what it claims to be. In short, selling wood chips as parmesan cheese will become impossible in a blockchain-powered world

Tracking the product will not erase all possibilities of fraud!
No tracking, no timestamp, no code, no blockchain will be able to deal with fraud in the food industry.

It might sound tempting when you think the farmer wills can each carrot, assign a code to it and you can check that on an app to be sure you've received that exact carrot, but nothing will stop the farmer from importing illegally 100 tons of carrots and labeling all of them as eco bio green ultra natural gluten free carrots!
Same for the meat industry, things get so complicated here because you simply have no way with a simple database to know if the said ingredients are indeed part of the mix that was used for your salami, this can only be done with a 24/7 monitoring of the entire facility with health inspectors at every step and thus, why the need for blockchain at all?

Oh and btw, and for everyone cheering for this solution, it uses Bitcoin SV blockchain, so, might have to think once or twice before clapping!

All I see now is to put the word blockchain in a sentence and then think things will get better.

But it works, right?
I just washed myself with a shampoo that uses blockchain technology and I need a lawnmower to shave!

Difficulty is projected to adjust downward next week, despite the recent BTC price hike.
Sounds like it's curtailment season. Must be getting hot in Texas.  Cool

If a max of 27C is enough for datacenters to start shutting down then we will be at 100Exa by summer  Wink
I suppose rather than Texas there are other places in the world where there is simply not enough cheap electricity available anymore and all the rumors about crackdown after crackdown on Kazach miners might be true to some extent.
There are rumors about Venezuela also,
https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2023/04/20/bitcoin-miners-trapped-in-alleged-20-billion-corruption-scheme-in-venezuela/?sh=21313b7b6b65

so, a ton of possibilities.
But, rather refreshing to see some larger moves, be it up or down, it was really boring.

The graph is nothing but a representation of what happened in the past, its history, and history is important because it usually repeats itself, human beings tend to repeat the things they or someone else has done in the past, and thus looking at past actions can help you predict the future better.

Especially mistakes, but I wonder how a fully enforced US ban will look compared to what happened after China did it, probably one of the events where the start will look the same with a huge drop in difficulty but the recovery will probably be nowhere near the same if there would be a recovery in a year timeframe at all.
Same with the halving, I'm so curious if we stick to patterns or if we completely go off script this time.
1977  Economy / Economics / Re: First Republic Bank fall: fear of more others to follow. on: April 27, 2023, 01:50:12 PM
I'm curious why the bank allow the depositors to withdraw $100 Billion of money? I think when the depositor want to withdraw a huge amount of money, the bank will make difficult for them to withdraw. The bank will investigating the money he have, only allow him to withdraw some portion of his total money, etc giving an excuse about any other bullshit reasons.

It doesn't feel right for the banks, maybe there's something behind that we're don't know...

Why it doesn't feel right?
That's how things are supposed to be, people deposit money when they want, and people should withdraw money when they want.

What's really surprising in this whole situation is that the whole panic started after someone managed to get 72 billion out of the bank without a hiccup, proving the bank had that 72 billion and not by somebody not being able to get his money out. Furthermore, the other action that triggered more panic and the price dwindling on the stock market is that they plan on liquidating close to 100 billion in assets to prepare for more withdraw and balance sheets, thus proving they still have at least another 100 billion ready. This is a bit of fucked up situation where a bank that has the money is going down while others who are probably in worse situations are watching calmly from the sure simply because their users are not that keen to cash out.

Anyhow, I don't know why everyone is panicking now, the major storm was back in March when they went down from 120$ to 12$ per share.

1978  Economy / Speculation / Re: The power of Bitcoin in global world on: April 27, 2023, 01:16:48 PM
According to Kemper's formula: A person need a total of 0.06624605 BTC in order to guarantee wealth worth $1 million.

There is no such guarantee and for sure it's not going to be a formula to do so.

In case somebody is interested in the details of the formula, here is it, pretty old stuff (in bitcoin time)
https://investory-video.com/blog/earn-bitcoin-crypto-millionaire

It basically estimates the whole coinmarketcap of Bitcoin is going to be the same as the global wealth and then divide it to find how much would a million be in BTC.
Oh, and BTW, the estimate is no longer accurate, since the global wealth is not 317 trillion but 463.6 trillion the amount of BTC needed has also gone down to 0.045356.

This is a bit stupid, because if the global wealth goes to 4600 trillion, you will be only needing 0.0045 BTC, so 140$ will make you a millioane.

1979  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Google Ads data: $4M stolen through crypto phishing URLs on: April 27, 2023, 01:11:23 PM
I personally think the numbers are way off.
$4 million maybe only with the most used keywords, and only checking the most known exchanges, if I would just throw an estimate at least half of that sum was for sure stolen only through chipmixer clones, and there is a lot now ay to count how much people have lost on those. But based on the dozens of websites and they never-ending promotions through adsense must have been pretty lucrative.
And that as just one tiny service, I would easily put another zero on that number.

With or without ad blocker, we can all avoid falling victim to all this phishing scam. Most of these ads are active on sites that we visit; not all sites support ads, but we can avoid those that do. One thing is for the ads to open; another thing is for one to be foolish enough to be tempted by whatever the ads show him or her that will make them dive in.

Phishing adsense scams don't work like that and are not triking users with fake promises.

How this works is that the scammers pay for ads that get shown when somebody searches for example "Binance" or
A ton of users are too lazy to type the whole URL and they simply type the name of the website in google and then click the first result, without checking that the ad which claims Binance is leading to biancexzyaax.is for example
