2001  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Lifetime Hardware ROI Profits for all Bitcoin Mining Hardware on: May 20, 2016, 01:34:00 AM

For example the S7 uses 1.2kw so monthly its 1.2kwhX0.10X24X30=$86.40.

The S7 documentation itself claims 1293w + 10% so why would you calculate it pulling only 1.2?

P.S.

Cointerra shouldnt even be on that list. The hardware was so bad the chances of running continuously from time of purchase to now id put at 10% tops. God I hate Cointerra.
2002  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9? LOL on: May 20, 2016, 01:31:58 AM

Bitmain will really need to competitively price their S9 to get people to actually buy them?

I really don't understand why people right now would buy BTC Miners when they can get a GPU.

It also really depends on the chips in the S9. The 14/16 nanometer chips represent the best thats possible with current tech and chances are any miners with that tech will be all thats available for the next 2-3 years. ASIC manufacturers have been playing catch up since the beginning but right now Intel is just putting out 14nm chips. ASIC manufacturers are not magically gonna pass Intel in the chip building game and pull some 8nm tech out their ass in 18 months. So if you buy a 14nm S9 you are buying a miner you wont replace for years, which hasnt been the case in this industry until now.
2003  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9? LOL on: May 20, 2016, 01:26:27 AM

You never know, etherum might just be the competitor that btc needs.

Look at it this way, btc mining becomes more difficult as times progresses, miners are going to need an alternative source of income so they mine both btc and eth!

Maybe do some research on ethereum. ETH mining is done before the year is over. It is switching from PoW to PoS meaning there is no more mining. How exactly can it compete with bitcoin?

2005  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BITMAIN!! Make a 200-400 Watt miner!! on: May 20, 2016, 12:48:44 AM
Large companies do not cater to the small fry. They could care less about the guy wanting to run a few tiny units in his apartment. If they spent all that money and R&D time to make a small miner....sure they might sell 1000 or so to the fools that dont care about losing money....but as a company they wont even recoup their costs on building it. So they build a larger miner and sell them by the thousands to mining farms and actually make money. Yet everyone wonders why they dont make smaller miners anymore when the answer seems pretty obvious. I mean all these companies used to make small miners...if they thought there was a market that could support them they would not have stopped.

If he is using a step up converter he is feeding the power supply 220. If its a 5000w converter it should have a voltage regulator to keep everything in line but a multimeter test to verify that isnt a bad idea. Is your home 120v power stable? In my old house when my washing machine kicks into spin cycle it dims lights because of my poor 70 year old wiring.
2007  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain New Miner S7-LN 2.7T @697W discussion (Not official) on: May 18, 2016, 11:12:53 PM

yeah but this is not really sustainable.. you cant just keep getting faster and larger every generation.. pretty soon they will have to start delivering 1ph truck size farms..

Why exactly can you not get faster and larger? As mining is industrialized that is what needs to happen to keep it growing.

P.S. There are multiple companies that have built and offered to sell tractor trailer sized self contained farms. As a matter of fact Avalon is working on one right now. The only problem is the cooling in such a small enclosed area. You have to use air conditioning which basically destroys the profits.

When you first boot it and get it hashing what does the asic section look like?

It should look something like this if everything is working:

2009  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9? LOL on: May 18, 2016, 07:42:13 PM
I understand that and I was not speaking on any random GPU coin. I was talking about ETH because it is the flavor of the month and people are seeing $$$. I was just pointing out that ETH mining is unsustainable. You can always go back to X11 mining and make money but with much smaller margins.
2010  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9? LOL on: May 18, 2016, 06:58:24 PM
You all realize that ETH is shifting from PoW to PoS when Serenity drops right? Its not like you will be able to mine ETH for years so comparing it to mining BTC in the long run seems kind of silly.
2011  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: May 18, 2016, 06:49:12 PM
Nice rigs. I wonder what hashrate you get from Gigabyte R9 380?
With Claymore I managed to get 21.5Mh on my 380X

Is there an advantage to the 3xx series of cards? My R9 280x pulls 22-24Mh mining ethereum so I was thinking of picking up a few more to mess with.

not all of us are need it to do ROI and would like to keep mining in our homes.

I am not sure how staring at a loud piece of tech pumping out heat while costing you money makes sense for anyone. I mean the whole point of mining is to make a profit is it not?  You may as well crank your house heater up, open all the windows, and just watch it waste money if thats the case. No special hardware, no reboots, no mining pools needed.

Chrome Version 50.0.2661.94
Windows 8.1

I do run adblock but I have it disabled for Minera because it was causing me some trouble earlier. Not running any other addons.
2014  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain New Miner S7-LN 2.7T @697W discussion (Not official) on: May 18, 2016, 02:44:57 AM
With the current network hash rate and difficulty I cant see them creating smaller miners as they would never be able to achieve ROI.

I want larger, faster, rack mountable units personally. Id rather monitor 1000 large fast machines than 10000 tiny lil S7 style miners :/
2015  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain New Miner S7-LN 2.7T @697W discussion (Not official) on: May 18, 2016, 02:26:09 AM
This is literally just a 2 blade S7 with a dumpy pc ATX power supply. At this price you may as well buy a normal S7 and trade someone the extra hashing board for a quality PSU if you want to run something under 1000w.

Plus as the other guy said, this is a limited run only available in China.

This would be a huge help to me in managing my fleet. OP was active May 6th. Hopefully he comes back and sees peoples interest.

i am having an issue where if I leave the tab for Minera open in Chrome for more than an hour it crashes and i have to reload the tab. Anyone else having that problem?
2018  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: So just how hard is it to get BitMain to fix warrenty repair? on: May 17, 2016, 09:34:11 PM

EDIT - ordered a miner from bitmainwarranty.com last night.  It was running on my pool in an hour.

So in a thread about warranty repair how exactly does buying a hosted unit have anything to do with the topic?

P.S. From what I see the bitmainwarranty site sells 14 day hosting contracts for $80 which is more than double the price of a decent hosting contract. I sure hope you arent spending $160 a month to host your unit because at that price you wont be making any profit.
2019  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 One Fan (S7-F1) - Notlist3d on: May 17, 2016, 07:03:09 PM
I am running about 60 of them and the worst have error rates of 0.0010 or so. That sounds like there is an issue with your setup or hardware.
2020  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New one fan S7 on: May 17, 2016, 12:56:03 AM
The second picture has all the info on the fan.

It is a delta 3.9 amp
