1721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How many of you use dual PSU? on: April 25, 2017, 06:56:42 PM
I am not really understanding your question. You need to provide more details if you would like a coherent answer.
1722  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Energy Efficient CPU Mining Algorithm's on: April 25, 2017, 06:53:55 PM
You can build a 6 card mining rig these days for around $1400-1600 if you shop around. This is not a lot of money. For example a 6 card RX470 rig mining ZEC or ETH makes ~$250 a month at $0.10/kw power. That is only a 6 month ROI time. On top of that the residual hardware value means you can turn around the day you hit ROI and sell the hardware for pure profit. I would like to see people list any other investments that can grant you a minimum 150% return after 6 months so I can get in on it.

If people cant afford that inital investment they shouldnt be entering the mining market for profit. There is an old saying....it takes money to make money. If you want to make a profit you have to first make an investment into whatever you are doing. The days of mining a random algo for a decent profit on whatever shit hardware you have laying around is long gone.
1723  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help - Hosted mining via proxy to minimize bandwidth on: April 25, 2017, 06:39:55 PM
I dont know how many miners you are planning on running but creating a local pool proxy as well as a local DNS server will cut down on the traffic over your internet connection quite a bit. For whatever reason the bitmain units make tons of DNS queries. I actually had a firewall overloaded by DNS and pool connections to the point where the PAT pool was running out of ports and causing all kinds of weird problems. One issue with the proxies is that they only redirect to one pool at a time. You could run a virtual server with a proxy for each pool you supported and would just have to point each miner at the specific proxy for their pool.
1724  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Themaltake Toughpower 1200W Gold burnup after 30 hours powering Avalon A6 on: April 24, 2017, 11:03:02 PM
not many will do 1200 watts on 120 volts.

diy won't help if he has a 120 volt limit.

he has a few atx options that is about it.

Then you buy two PSUs and run one board each with them while still costing less than a bitmain and being way more reliable and able to keep up with the duty cycle of a 24/7 miners way better than an ATX psu.

You can buy HP/Dell/SuperMicro server PSUs that clock in around the 700-800w range for under $10 each if you do a bit of looking around. Throw in $10 in cables and you have MORE than enough power for an Avalon for under $40 total. The Dells you dont even need to solder, you can just use female spade connectors and glue them into place.

Pretty sure that still falls under the DIY criteria and meets the 120v limit while costing about a third of what you would pay for a bitmain or ATX psu. When ROI is a big concern with miners, I would think you would want to save money while increasing reliability whenever possible and this does both.
1725  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Themaltake Toughpower 1200W Gold burnup after 30 hours powering Avalon A6 on: April 24, 2017, 09:59:24 PM
Theres tons of server grade psus for pennies all over ebay and other places. Find the pinouts, spend 30 minutes building a harness, and all of a sudden you have a really nice power supply for half the price of a single bitmain unit. You dont power industrial mining gear with low end ATX power supplies and expect it to just work like magic. If you arent a DIY kind of person then honestly the mining game isnt for you.
1726  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Will Bitmain Antminers S9 and T9 be obsolete if Segwit is launced ? on: April 24, 2017, 07:00:32 PM
This thread should just be deleted so people dont read the title and get some crazy idea that segwit will make any hardware obsolete for any reason
1727  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ebit e9 miner with 6.8Th/s from Ebang company a new rival for existing producers on: April 24, 2017, 06:18:03 PM
If you wouldn't mind, when the units arrive would you take photos and let us know how they hash?  Thanks.

The first page of this thread has the pictures I took including one showing how they hash.

They average about 6.4th/s when working. I have a number of machines that have broken 30 days uptime already. As long as they work out of the box they require very little maintenance so far.
1728  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S7 - Unable to save URL of pool on: April 24, 2017, 03:14:23 PM
That controller could be suffering from some memory corruption. If it is loading the file system read only because it is detecting irregularities it will not allow you to save the files. You can ssh into the affected system and see whats going on that way.
1729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 6 GPU rig AsRock Z97 Extreme 6 Windows 10 on: April 22, 2017, 03:26:55 PM
I had an issue on my H97 anniversary boards where I had to use a 16x to 16x riser to get the card in the 16x slot to show up. Powered or unpowered I couldnt get it working with the 1x adapter.
1730  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does anyone use asrock btc without dummy plug (or it's equivalent) on: April 22, 2017, 03:21:21 PM
The workaround to not using dummy plugs is to run linux. Its only a windows thing.
1731  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICBoost shower thought theory on: April 22, 2017, 03:15:31 PM
You do not understand the fundamentals of what you are talking about, so there is no real reason to answer your questions. You are just flat out wrong about segwit 'breaking' hardware.....

1732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Bitcoin Core be like the iPhone app Bitcoin Billionaire, mining-wise? on: April 21, 2017, 10:08:26 PM
These already exist, they are called faucets
1733  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer R4 fails to start: Test Patten on chain[6]/chain[7]: FAILED on: April 20, 2017, 04:28:17 PM
With the way these boards are designed there is no way to bypass faulty chip. It is a string design, think of it like a set of cheap christmas lights. One bulb burns and the whole strand dies.
1734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Digi Byte - (DGB) on: April 20, 2017, 03:16:15 PM
This is a bitcoin only section of the forum. I would put this in the alt coin section if you would like some answers.
1735  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: s7 wont stay hashing on: April 20, 2017, 03:15:23 PM
FYI this should be in the support section. The number 1 cause of an S7 stalling out after starting normally is a bad fan. Post your miner status page as well, it helps greatly in seeing what is going on with the miner.
1736  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Cheap PSU experience and question about connections more PSU on: April 19, 2017, 05:41:03 PM
The forum is littered with people selling these PSUs as well as breakout boards and other ways to connect them up.

I am not advocating you purchase from this seller but this link just gives an example of how a server PSU would be setup for powering GPUs

1737  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 6 -Raspberry pi won't boot correctly on: April 19, 2017, 03:39:01 PM
I have had those power bricks fail over time. I have had two of them literally blow up and blast the top off of the plastic shell. I would replace those power bricks even if they seem to be working. Once they start to heat up they dont put out enough power anymore and crash the RPi.
1738  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: EBang 14nm 6.3T (140W/T) BTC Miner for sale soon on: April 19, 2017, 03:37:00 PM
with just a single fan the e9 is really loud, comparable to an S9 by itself
1739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining wattage difference between Rx 470 and Rx 480 on: April 18, 2017, 11:56:26 PM
The 4xx series are end of life. They will quickly get harder to find so snap them up now while you can.
1740  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can't overclock second GPU on: April 18, 2017, 11:52:26 PM
Maybe try some HDMI dummy plugs?
