Dont waste your money.
The largest bitcoin mine in the world can theoretically run their outbound connection over a single piece of cat 5. Mining uses that little bandwidth.

There really isnt an answer to your question.
Bitmain has stopped making the R4 and that was the only current generation bitcoin miner made to be run at home. The rest of what you can find are all industrial miners meant to be run in a datacenter environment. People still try to run them at home which is why you will see tons of threads on how to try and make it quieter but it really just isnt feasible to run one of these at home without a constant buzz you will hear through most of your house.

Cleaning with a compressor is fine, just make sure that there is no water in the tank from condensation, you dont want to spray mist on the hardware.
Another thing to do is put a pen or something to stop the fans from spinning if you hit them with a strong compressor blast.

Anyone have a list of possible purchase sites that are reputable?
Bitmain doesnt use resellers. If you buy from a reseller you pay an inflated price and get no warranty so beware.

The only way to see if they were overclocked is if the person left the overclock values in the controller. The controller is what tells the hashing boards how fast to run. Most newer bitmain stuff is unoverclockable with the autotune firmware anyway

If they take time to clean them, there is no way to know if they have been previously mined. Truth be told.....7nm technology is in production. Samsung intends to ramp up chip production throughout 2018. Granted, ASIC miners are probably not extremely high on the distribution priority list, but it's coming within the next 12-24 months to Bitmain. This is why they are purging their current inventory. ASAP they will mine the 7nm and once they skim the cream off the top, we'll be fighting online to buy their scraps. Rinse repeat.
7nm is not coming to asics next year, or maybe at all. Spreading information like this helps noone since it is completely unfounded. Also, bitmain does burn-in tests on its machines. They run them for around 72 hours on average. I have seen the facility where this happens. It is not some huge datacenter with these things running for months on end before sales, as so many people like to fantasize about.

I dont know about that specific power supply but bitmain only claims 1200w at the wall so a 1600w PSU will do the trick as long as it has enough PCIe plugs to run everything.

Interesting. It looks like the daughter board is working. The DNA is the serial number off of that little board so the controller is talking to the unit itself. It is seeing at least some information from the hashing boards as it is reporting temperature and fan speed. Whats strange is there are no real error codes that would clue you into what is going on with the boards as you would expect with a hardware failure.

A bit of dust would not cause the melting plastic smell you are referring to. I am betting you have a wire that is overheating somewhere and that smell is the plastic jacket around it heating up. Double check your wiring, make sure you dont have too many risers running off of a single power source etc. Let it run for a few and feel around for hot wires.
Also, move this to the proper section. This section is for bitcoin mining and most people are just going to tell you to move it anyway.

I find it strange that nobody has mentioned that if you buy from a reseller you do not get warranty support. With the questionable track record of the S9 I personally think that is a huge risk.

I understand you have 3 setups, I understand that you think the problem is the daughter board.
My suggestion was a possible fix for a problematic daughter board.
The MM firmware is the firmware that runs the daughter board. It can get corrupt without killing the entire board which is where my suggestion comes into play. None of the steps you have mentioned attempted to fix the daughter board after you decided that it was the problem.
If you dont want to try it thats fine, I was just offering my experience as I have managed over 8000 Avalon devices in the past 3 years.

Its strange that people just assume new miners are going to come out left and right when there is zero evidence or information that would even make a sane person assume that was the case.

That account posted its story over and over again for a few days and was never heard of again. He probably finally realized he got scammed because he did not do his own due diligence which is why he never posted again.

You have to take into account difficulty changes. You will NEVER make the exact same amount of coin from one month to another.
As of right now, 180mh should produce ~1.18 eth per month. This number will change daily so you will not find a real helpful answer to your question.

You have to take into account a few factors when chasing the highest profitability. While it may be the highest profitability for a few hours, by the time you cash that coin type out it may not be. Chasing max profit usually ends up costing people money because they dont think about how fluid the market is and how quickly these things change. I have found that its best to stick with a coin you feel has the strongest future ahead of it since most people arent going to exchange their small amount of coin every couple of hours to max out the daily fiat gains.
Because of this, I feel like people chasing what the whattomine site tells you is the most profitable in that instance is a waste of time.

Yea the 'File System Version' is the date of the firmware on the device.

Have you tried doing an MM update on the bad unit? Maybe there was corruption on the controller board. I havent had to deal with that on the A7 but on the A6 I was able to revive unresponsive units pretty regularly with an MM flash. Even if the controller doesnt 'see' the unit, the mm upgrade process would complete on the A6.

IMO the 2 things you need to look at are memory type and cooling setup. The memory type will give you an idea of stability and overclockability while the cooling setup and be important depending on where you are going to run the cards and what ambient temps they will be dealing with. All that information can be found on these forums if you search around a bit.

Have you compared firmware versions between the two miners?

You are going to need a better video card if you want to mine and make an actual profit. That 710 is an extreme budget card based on 4 year old tech. Even the memory on that is only DDR3, it just wont do the job.
