you could setup a local pool proxy server and dns server locally, have all the miners connect through that and you will only have the one machine talking out over the internet. On DSL I am assuming your upload speed is pretty low and this would dramatically reduce the amount of ports/bandwidth used.

he was referring to buying gpus to mine and i was reminding that this is a bitcoin subforum so buying gpus will not help anyone here looking to mine BTC

For anyone interested after running these miners for a while I am enjoying the lack of attention I have had to pay to them. So far they are reliable and maintenance free. There is one machine with an intermittent board issue but it seems the software will actually restart the board after a period of time on its own without intervention. This single board will drop out for 20-30 minutes maybe once a day but the software will restart it until its hashing again without any user intervention. This is much preferred over the bitmain functionality where it will shut a board down due to thermal or hashing issues but it will never restart the board on its own. I am going to be getting some more of these machines in and hopefully they will have english firmware. If so I will post screenshots of the UI again and give a more in depth look to the features their software offers.

Buy video cards till sidehack gets his miners built!!!! You cant mine bitcoin with GPUs and Sidehacks miners wont be an option for people that want to make real profits from mining. For now you have to buy from one of the 3 main companies manufacturing miners.

The older 54 chip S7s were known to burn up when they lost internet connectivity and were on one of the older firmwares (fw dated 2015) but as far as the newer ones go I have not seen any catch on fire.

On the main page if you scroll down a bit you will find the altcoin section. This is where you will find all the GPU information you require.

Mining on your laptop will dramatically reduce its lifespan, I would not recommend you mine anything with it.

if you just want some satoshis you can use bitcoin faucets

Are you getting a red light on the miner? Can you access the web GUI? If so upload a screenshot and we can better see whats happening.

the AS in ASIC means Application Specific so they will only be able to mine SHA-256 cryptocurrencies, you cannot repurpose them for anything else. Also with the age of the machine you will not be able to find anything profitable to mine with them as they burn way more power than current miners.

Having worked with all 3 of your listed options i would recommend ubuntu personally. EthOS is wonderful if all you want to do is mine ethereum. Of all the 3 it required the least maintenance by far. Windows was very unreliable for me as it just did not like running 6 cards on one board. I eventually got it working but it required a bunch of fiddling with each individual machine.
As far as the ubuntu setup time, it really isnt that bad. If you are running a farm you should be buying the same hardware for all machines. As long as you have done that just build one ubuntu machine to your liking and just clone the drive onto other machines, change the IP/worker name, and mine away.

Being a total dick is not the way to get your questions answered. Especially if you are going to be vague and not answer questions when people are trying to help you.

That really depends on if you can find someone to sell in bulk. How much have you budgeted for machines and power supplies?
|
|
|
Not with that miner.
Honestly you will not make a profit unless you invest well over $1000 and are willing to wait 9 months to make your money back. This is not a get rich quick industry anymore, you are about 4 years too late to make an easy profit

@OP, you realize old miners are useless right? best thing to do is to buy as many S9s as you can and mine without selling, yes don't sell and hold until price reaches $1500 and above.
This is not true at all. It is also horrible advice and not even close to the proper way to run a commercial farm. I would recommend you try and stick with the 28nm machines otherwise even at that power level your profit margin will be razor thin. The two best bets are Antminer S7s and Avalon6s. I recommended the avalon because they require much less maintenance and will be cheaper overall to run than the s7 due to the reduced labor and lower failure rate.

running 2 PSU for an antminer is ok as long as you dont mix power across the boards.
So for 2 800w power supplies you want one PSU powering 2 hashing boards and the second powering the third hashboard as well as the controller. If you run them this way just make sure you power up the hash board PSU before you power up the controller or it might not see all 3 boards.

Get a bunch of Avalon6 machines. They are super easy to maintain and should be cheap as they are no longer efficient enough for most home miners.

That would matter if they actually depended on us to survive. Like most business. But they self mine. You've seen their mega farm right? They only added 1.5 exahash and climbing. So yea they can do what they want sadly. And what is more sad is we all facilitated this.
BR
Are you talking about the mythical 130mw datacenter there is only digital representations of? The one where they partnered with 5 other companies, only control 20% of the space, and dont actually have a million machines running because the facility isnt even completed?

|
SSH into the miner using root/admin and you will find the config files in /config. Edit them manually with VI to repair if it is just corruption of the config file and not the ROM itself.

Honestly you arent going to find a datacenter that will let you put your own router on their network. That is just a big no no. If it is secured in the datacenter why are you so worried about it? IF you are that paranoid just talk to whoever you signed your hosting contract with and get them to put in writing they will pay for lost revenue if somehow the account information gets changed.
