2221  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Is it Possible to Guess a Private key of Bitcoin Paper Wallet? on: April 22, 2021, 05:26:28 AM
So, can you please suggest a safe and secure site that is 100% trusted?

You can safely generate a "paper wallet" by finding a site that allows you to download the source and run it on an off-line.  There are a couple out there, but I won't link to any because I don't recommend that method.

You can also use a light-client desktop wallet to do the same thing, but better.  I recommend Electrum, which will allow you to create a wallet with many addresses that backed up by a 12-word long seed phrase.  You can create a wallet on an on-line computer to use as a "hot wallet" or you can create a "cold wallet" on a off-line computer and have a "watch only" version to access on your on-line computer.

2222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoind systemd service unit file on: April 21, 2021, 09:32:47 PM
Here's a link to the standard bitcoind.system file included with the source code:
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/contrib/init/bitcoind.service

If you want to use it as-is you'll have to create a system user named "bitcoin."  Also note the directories and their permissions:

Code:
# Directory creation and permissions
####################################

# Run as bitcoin:bitcoin
User=bitcoin
Group=bitcoin

# /run/bitcoind
RuntimeDirectory=bitcoind
RuntimeDirectoryMode=0710

# /etc/bitcoin
ConfigurationDirectory=bitcoin
ConfigurationDirectoryMode=0710

# /var/lib/bitcoind
StateDirectory=bitcoind
StateDirectoryMode=0710

To install bitcoin core to the specified directory use this code:
Code:
sudo install -m 0755 -o root -g root -t /usr/bin bitcoin-0.21.0/bin/*

You'll have to create two directories (/etc/bitcoin and /var/lib/bitcoind) and set the ownership/group to bitcoin:bitcoin and permissions to -rwx--x--- (chmod 710.)  Bitcoin core will create the runtime directory as needed.

You can now copy your bitcoin.conf file to /etc/bitcoin and set ownership/permission the same as the directory.  You should be able to use systemctl to enable and start bitcoind now, but of course it'll start downloading the blockchain from the start.  If you change your simlink and use the same directory on the USB drive, you'll need to start bitcoind manually the first time with -reindex.

I find this is the most reliable way to run bitcoind with systemd.
2223  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Freewallet.org ist scammer! doesn't give my Dogecoins! on: April 21, 2021, 01:21:57 AM
finally, I could withdraw all my dogecoins.

Consider yourself one of the lucky ones.  I think they released Elon Musk's funds pretty darn quick when he tweeted about them, you're in pretty darn good company.

I'd like to think that posting on bitcointalk.org got you the result you were looking for, but that would be presumptive of me.  I'm glad it worked out.

It's like every time you wanted to reach into your physical wallet to buy a soda or something, you had to send your personal documents to a bunch of strangers.

I really wonder what's going on with this outfit.  If they were a legitimate exchange they would be making a mint the honest way.  Is it a ponzi?  Have they squandered so much of their clients' funds that they have to scramble to compensate those who squawk the loudest?

Given the plethora of KYC dox they request it can't possibly take weeks (or months in some cases,) to confirm someone's identity.  Not to mention the deception of pretending they don't require KYC until they decide your account balance is "suspicious."
2224  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Alternative to Coinbase? on: April 20, 2021, 10:03:38 PM
Depending on where he lives, he might be able to hook up with someone who wants to buy his bitcoin in person.  I've never done that myself, but it seems like a neat way to do your business and socialize with another bitcoin enthusiast in the process.

It might also be a good way to find yourself becoming a victim of a $5 wrench attack.  If it was just for a few hundred bucks, then okay that may be a cool way to trade bitcoin, but I wouldn't take this risk for anything over a couple grand.  YMMV.

I guess I'm kinda skeptical about informing complete strangest that I own bitcoin.  Other than my immediate family and few very close friends, the only people who know I'm into bitcoin are you lot.

2226  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Restoring a wallet from seed on: April 20, 2021, 07:22:09 PM
I can see why the OP was confused about whether he can use his existing seed or not.  When creating a 2FA wallet, the dialogue askes if you'd like to create a new seed, or if you already have one:

It does say "Create or Restore" at the top of the dialogue box, but it doesn't specify that if you already have a seed it needs to be one that was created as a 2FA wallet.  Maybe the second radio button should be labeled "Restore an existing 2FA wallet seed" instead of "I already have a seed."
2227  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum SEED being used on a HW - project anywhere? on: April 20, 2021, 06:16:16 PM
It would be bad for them though as I believe maybe 30% of their users are combining Elec with a HW.

Electrum's seed convention has nothing to do with the seed phrase of your hardware wallet.  Electrum only has access to the master public key from the hardware wallet, so the the seed phrase never comes into play.  Even if Electrum ended support for Bip39 seeds, compatibility with hardware wallets would remain unchanged.

I suspect that Electrum will continue to provide some level of support for Bip39 seeds in one way or another.  Even if it's just a way to "sweep" a Bip39 HD wallet into a native Electrum HD wallet.  There are so many hardware and desktop-client wallets out there that use Bip39 seeds and eventually many owner of those other wallets will want to import them into Electrum for one reason or another.

I've changed my HW seeds in the past, and it's damn convenient to be able to just import those seeds into an Electrum wallet.  I just pack up that wallet and save it in an archive in case I need to access it quickly for some reason or another.
2228  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Alternative to Coinbase? on: April 20, 2021, 03:32:10 AM
Any legitimate exchange is going to behave the same way when transferring USD.  They will all wait for your ACH or wire transfers to clear before they'll let you withdraw the comparable amount.  At least Coinbase and Coinbase Pro allow you to trade the cash deposit instantly now, just a few months ago the wouldn't even do that.

I've also used Binance.US to transfer USD, and Bitstamp now offers US traders ACH transfers.
2229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin sweeping question on: April 19, 2021, 09:56:33 PM
Has this always been the case?  I seem to recall a time when Electrum did allow importing keys into HD wallets.
The change was made in the upgrade from version 1.9.8 to version 2.0.

In Electrum 2.0, you cannot import private keys in a wallet that has a seed. You should sweep them instead.

Lol, well that's before my dalliance with bitcoin began, so I'll correct myself by saying "I seem to recall reading about a time when Electrum did allow importing keys into HD wallets."
2230  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How and Where to sell a Motel for Bitcoin on: April 19, 2021, 09:34:02 PM
I've got a question for you if you don't mind my asking.  Did you manage to sell the building on Loopnet on your own? Or did you contract a real-estate broker or firm to do that for you?

I've never listed any properties myself on loopnet, but I've used it to find properties.  Loopnet is great for vacant land or buildings, but not so much for an operational business.

Would you advise a total noob to sell a property that's worth about $750,000 on loopnet on my own without any assistance?

I am thinking of following your suggestion at this point - find the buyer myself and contract an attorney to draft the final sale contract.

Thanks again!

Well, the first time I did this I was a total noob, and I had no idea what I was getting into.  The reason we pay real-estate agents and brokers the big bucks is because they save us from having to do our own due diligence, and can protect us from losing money.  I will say that this type of an approach is less risky for the seller than the buyer, usually.

One option that you might want to keep open is to sell the "Motel Business" while retaining ownership of the property itself.  That way, someone else is running the business while you get passive income from the lease.  Also, you may have an easier time convincing a tenant to pay you in bitcoin by putting it in the lease agreement.  Cool

@NotATether, you have my permission to use the images from the post linked below for the purpose of updating the Bitcoin Wiki page about Electrum.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5240594.msg54223763#msg54223763

Thanks for this. The Electrum page at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Electrum now includes steps to verify Electrum from DireWolfM14's guide.

The page will need some more edits though, in particular about Electrum's usage and history of the 2018 phishing attack on it.

In other news, the ECDSA page https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Elliptic_Curve_Digital_Signature_Algorithm just got a nice section on how to compute and verify signatures Smiley

Cool!  Just an FYI, I've been meaning to add "failed" verification images to the guide.  I have them already generated, but I just haven't made the time to update the post.  I'll get on it one of these days...  Like a rainy one.  In November.    Grin
2232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin sweeping question on: April 19, 2021, 08:26:29 PM
Keep in mind however, if you used a Bip39 seed phrase to create an Electrum wallet, then imported the key, the key will not be backed up by the seed phrase.
You cannot import a private key in to an Electrum wallet created from a seed phrase, be it an Electrum seed phrase or a BIP39 seed phrase. If you want to import private keys to Electrum, you have to create a new wallet which is only comprised of imported private keys.

I know that is the case with Electrum seeds, but I wasn't sure about Bip39 HD wallets.  Has this always been the case?  I seem to recall a time when Electrum did allow importing keys into HD wallets.  Nevertheless, I doubt that is the OP's situation.
2233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How and Where to sell a Motel for Bitcoin on: April 19, 2021, 08:19:18 PM
Loopnet is by far the most popular commercial real-estate website in the US, I've used them before and been pleased.  If you insist on a crypto sale it's likely to take you a while to find a buyer.  If you're in a hurry to sell the property you probably shouldn't put those kind of conditions on the sale.

As for brokers or real-estate agents, they're helpful finding buyers, title and escrow companies.  If you already have a title/escrow company you want to work with, and find the buyer yourself you can contract a Real-Estate Attorney to draft up the contracts.  Usually a real-estate sale contract drafted by a lawyer will cost you about $10k.  Depending on the price of the property that may be less than the commission fees charged by brokers and real-estate agents.
2234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin sweeping question on: April 19, 2021, 08:05:53 PM
I had used the private key once, sweeping it into Electrum wallet. Does electrum save it anywhere?

If you swept the key, then no, Electrum won't save it.  But that doesn't matter so much, sweeping the key moves the bitcoin to a new address.
If you imported the key into Electrum, then yes, Electrum will save they key in that wallet file.  Keep in mind however, if you used a Bip39 seed phrase to create an Electrum wallet, then imported the key, the key will not be backed up by the seed phrase.
2235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed Btc Transaction on: April 19, 2021, 07:55:53 PM
I'm worried sick because of unconfirmed btc transaction since one day even the transaction fee is also fair. Please help me out.

That's a fair fee, so I doubt mempool will drop it.  Odds are it'll be confirmed within a day or two more.  Unless your in a hurry I wouldn't worry about it.  It looks like "Replace by Fee" (RBF) is not enabled, so at this point I think all you can do is wait.

The blockchain has been pretty busy for the last few months, but I've had transactions with fees as low as 5 sats/byte get confirmed.  It took almost a week, but it got confirmed.

2237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Default address? on: April 18, 2021, 06:30:38 PM
I'm not sure what you mean by "default address," are you reffering to the receiving address?  From what I've noticed Core issues receiving addresses in the order they're listed in the keystore.  The hdkeypath indicates their position, and Core will display the keys in that order.  For example:

First address to display: hdkeypath=m/0'/0'/0'
Second address to display: hdkeypath=m/0'/0'/1'
So on and so forth.

Each bitcoin core HD wallet has one private key (and an associated address) that's used as the HD seed, but if I'm not mistaken core avoids the use of this address as a receiving address.
2238  Economy / Reputation / Re: The AdkinsBET Army of Alts on: April 18, 2021, 05:37:58 PM
Happy to see that Adkinscambet website is finally down and people are saved from losing money there.

I wouldn't start jumping for joy just yet.  @morvillz7z post only shows that these guys have been at it for sometime, and when things get sticky they cut ties with on name and move on to another.

For example, let's check out the newest sportsbook to show up in the gambling section; BETOP.GG.  Well, they seem legit enough.  The OP is cordial, answering questions and referring potential clients to their terms of service.  Terms of service that seem remarkably similar to those of Sportsbet.io.  So simlar, I would go as far as to call them plagiarized...

I'll just quote one part of each company's ToS for brevity.  Here's the "General" portion of Sportbet's Tos:

1. General
1.1.     These terms and conditions ("Terms and Conditions") apply to both wagering sports and the use of casino-style games accessible through www.Sportsbet.io.
1.2.      Sportsbet.io is owned and operated by mBet Solutions NV (Schout Bij Nacht Doormanweg 40, P.O. Box 4745, Curaçao). It is licensed and regulated by the Government of Curaçao under the gaming license 1668/JAZ. Some payment methods are handled by its wholly owned subsidiary, mProcessing Solutions Ltd, Cyprus (Menandrou 4, 1066, Nicosia, Cyprus).
1.3.      These Terms and Conditions come into force as soon as you complete the registration process, which includes checking the box accepting these Terms and Conditions and successfully creating an account. By using any part of the Website following account creation, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
1.4.      You must read these Terms and Conditions carefully in their entirety before creating an account. If you do not agree with any provision of these Terms and Conditions, you must not create an account or continue to use the Website.
1.5.      We are entitled to make amendments to these Terms and Conditions at any time and without advanced notice. If we make such amendments, we may take appropriate steps to bring such changes to your attention (such as by email or placing a notice on a prominent position on the Website, together with the amended terms and conditions) but it shall be your sole responsibility to check for any amendments, updates and/or modifications. Your continued use of the Sportsbet.io services and Website after any such amendment to the Terms and Conditions will be deemed as your acceptance and agreement to be bound by such amendments, updates and/or modifications.
1.6.      These Terms and Conditions may be published in several languages for informational purposes and ease of access by players. The English version is the only legal basis of the relationship between you and us and in the case of any discrepancy with respect to a translation of any kind, the English version of these Terms and Conditions shall prevail.

And here's the "General" portion of BETOP's ToS:

1.1.     These terms and conditions ("Terms and Conditions") apply to both wagering sports and the use of casino-style games accessible through www.BETOP.GG.

Your continued use of the BETOP.GG services and Website after any such amendment to the Terms and Conditions will be deemed as your acceptance and agreement to be bound by such amendments, updates and/or modifications.

1.6.      These Terms and Conditions may be published in several languages for informational purposes and ease of access by players. The English version is the only legal basis of the relationship between you and us and in the case of any discrepancy with respect to a translation of any kind, the English version of these Terms and Conditions shall prevail.

Note how Section 1.2 is (comically) missing from BETOP's ToS?  Now go back and read section 1.2 from Sportsbet's ToS, and you'll likely know why BETOP omitted it from their own, but they forgot to adjust the section numbers, lol.  Couldn't make this shit up.

Now, please don't get me wrong.  I'm not claiming that BETOP.GG is owned and operated by the same folks as AdkinsSCAM, there's no way to prove that.  There does seem to be some coincidence with the timing.  We all know how the AdkinsFOOLS were absolutely obsessed with Sportsbet.io.  If mimicking is the sincerest form of flattery, I guess Sportsbet.io should take it as a complement when some one plagiarizes their ToS.
2239  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀 Sportsbet.io - New Community Chat feature on site now!! 🚀 on: April 18, 2021, 03:34:42 PM
and don't forget they have an 11% boost on any market, bet 0.5mbtc and you get 11 free Blackjack hands (opt in promo first of course!).

Awe man, you got me all excited.  I went looking for this promo, but it appears that it's now expired.  The super boost is still available, so I put a small wager on The Saints.  Good luck boys!  It would be awesome to see the Sportsbet.io and Bitcoin logos in the FA Cup final!

And congrats to Chelsea and their fans, good job against City yesterday.

Really sucks that I can't bet on sportsbet website because it's down again for some time, and this is not the first time something like this is happening Sad
Hi guys, apologies for this, our dev guys are working on the solution. Ill let you guys know what happened when i hear back.

regards,

Steve.
Sportsbet.io

The site is slower than usual, and I get a pop-up message saying the site is under maintenance, but I just made a deposit and a bet with no issues.

ETA: It looks like bet didn't go through, I'll wait a bit until the issues get resolved.
2240  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seed phrase not written on hard drive if you recover a wallet on: April 16, 2021, 03:27:24 PM
According the passage below, it appears that the Electrum development team's primary issue with Bip39 is a fixed word list being required, as indicated in the quote below.

A fixed wordlist is still required. Following our recommendation, BIP39 authors decided to derive keys and addresses in a way that does not depend on the wordlist. However, BIP39 still requires the wordlist in order to compute its checksum, which is plainly inconsistent, and defeats the purpose of our recommendation. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that BIP39 proposes to create one wordlist per language. This threatens the portability of BIP39 seed phrases.

However, they are still using the fixed 2048-word Bip39 list to populate their seed phrases.  Is there a plan to change this in the future?  I guess I'm not sure why a fixed word list is such a problem if sufficiently long enough to provide the required entropy.  The entire dictionary is essentially a "fixed word list" just significantly longer.
