2261  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you think the Bitcoin price will do when the Feds sell the Silk Road BTC on: January 17, 2014, 08:19:57 AM
The FBI has been given the go ahead to sell the Silk Road bitcoins.

http://www.justice.gov/usao/nys/pressreleases/January14/SilkRoadForfeiture.php

The moment the bitcoins move out of the FBI address, what do you believe will happen to the bitcoin price?

As I recall, when the FBI busted DPR for Silk Road the price dropped from $120s to $80s then climbed back up and weeks later we started the rally to the new high.

I could see something like that happening again. The price will drop because of all of the new coins needing to be traded somehow for dollars. But I know that many people have probably not gone all in because they knew that would happen so many people will buy up bitcoins.

And afterwards, we will not have that sale hanging over our heads so a new rally may begin.

Thoughts?

Selling that much on bitstamp would take it down to single digits, on MtGox down in the $400s. Hopefully they are smart about it but when have we known the US government to be smart?

Usually things doesn't work like that, I think there will be an auction for it, or some Private deal will be organized, it would be really strange if they sold them on exchanges...
2262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: who is next? on: January 16, 2014, 09:09:43 PM
Really, what is the problem here?
I think it is fantastic that companies in in the bitcoin space fund developers to improve bitcoin.
We have seen this with other open source projects over the years. Let me mention Linux as an example.
If you have a profitable bitcoin business I would expect you to care so much for bitcoin that you would fund it's development.
We need to free as many brains as possible from lame day time jobs, so they can help us all by improving bitcoin.

+1
I agree with that, in a simple word "motivation", when Devs are offered time and motivated financially their productivity will be much better... we saw that happens in many projects and I am glad to see this happening with Bitcoin.

Looks like there are some rumours abound in China atm, Huobi is acting really twitchy.

There are no Chinese rumors, only confirmed bad news facts from trusted sources.  Sell now!

holy #$%& didn't you notice that most of posters now on this sub-forum are new members ? most of them doesn't really understand your way of communication and don't really get your sarcasm so you are the one spreading the FUD, calm down....

BTW do you want to take another bet on the price this year ?
2265  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 15, 2014, 04:10:50 PM

2267  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 15, 2014, 10:39:27 AM
French Senate is asking really good questions. A very good discussion. Hope the Press doesn't only pick the "drugs and trafficking" parts

this is what press do but who cares really, I care what the senate and his government will decide, let the press cry about it, they and their believers will miss the train

Bad guys use cash.
Bictoin is too volatile !

The young feller makes me nervous with his speedy talk.

But as far is i understood their view on Bitcoin is quite neutral. It's a tool among others (existent or yet to come) to do good and bad things, so it is better we try to understand and regulate it than ban/condemn it.

to be honest, I think they were objective, which is really positive and good for bitcoin... let the market decide otherwise

It is pretty similar to the US senate hearings - mentioning Silk Road / contraband etc... but also the benefits.   The guy talking about Bitcoin Central earlier said he didn't know about how many transactions were from France, but he didn't think very many, mostly 'Northern European' (Germany and UK, presumably) as France is a little behind in terms of Bitcoin.   I think this point was telling, the French do feel a little behind the curve now that Germany has officially accepted / recognised BTC, while other countries have not (as one guy said).

The only problem is how to regulate for TVA (sales tax) and how to classify exchanges etc.   This is a very French thing as they like to have regulation (even of their language) and they instinctively want a 'French position'.

But in reality they are not big players in the Bitcoin European landscape and in any case will not dare to differ from Germany very much....

The worst that will happen is that they drown BTC exchanges and transactions with a ton of French red tape.

France is falling behind as a power, and they know it, so my guess is that they will try to catch up (if they are smart), comparing to Slovenia a small country of 2 million citizen that play an important role it is a shame that a big country like France is this late to the game...

so the senate is asking who owns the protocol, and "no one" as an answer seems not convincing enough for him hahahaha

He thinks the network belongs to "big companies"...

the Prof talking now makes really good points, more interesting he is objective Smiley

Edit: so speculation is good? I didn't know that hahahaha, listen from the professor and speculate guys, it is okay he said Smiley

If French speaking, watch the debate live right now:

www.senat.fr/espace_presse/actualites/201401/monnaies_virtuelles_quels_enjeux.html

So far banque de france representative says bitcoin is not a currency..

I am watching it now, the guy is just explaining what is Bitcoin and how does it work, who is that guy anyway ?
2274  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Slovenija / Slovenia on: January 15, 2014, 09:04:32 AM

in other words he want to say: " I am selling miners on Bolha.com, I will make sure to rip off noobs......"

my advice is to buy bitcoins and hold, this is the best strategy you can follow ATM, since the introduce of ASICs everything except AVALON Batch1, was never profitable, now a ROI in terms of BTC is only a myth, the days of GPUs and a decent ROI are gone, today only manufacturers makes real money....

and BTW, good luck with proving the source of your bitcoins to DURS Wink

2276  Economy / Speculation / Re: This might just explains the whole Gox situation (included poll, please vote) on: January 15, 2014, 06:47:30 AM
I think only a few of them are what I'd call viable in the long term, most of them are complete shit.

Do tell, which are viable, which are shit.

no please don't, I don't want this thread to go out of context....

2280  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 14, 2014, 03:15:32 PM
we might be at the start of something big

i see 3 resistance levels

850

900

1000

if the market is able to slowly climb over each one and have resistance become support each time, we can make a new all time high!

I would be surprised if we see 1300 before 600, but hey this is bitcoin!

Too much fiat adam ? hahhaha, well I am a bit strange, I wish the price to go to a new ATH but at the same time I would like to see $500 again Grin  most likely we are not visiting that again, but as you said who knows.
