My Ares is also humming tornado'ing along nicely. Pics soonTM.

Let me guess, no magical zues boards?

*Zeus. No.

So they sent you their $3500 rebranded alcheminer instead of their $300 zues board which nobody believes is real?

And I'm guessing you will still make them a promotion thread even though you're probably well aware that they are running some sort of scam?

*Zeus.

Not sure why you're also attacking me now, but feel free to open a scam accusation thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0. The Ares was delivered in early December, I've just been busy. You're free to believe whatever you desire, yet there still hasn't been ONE, ONE aggrieved customer.

I did your survey Dogie rules !!!!!! Dont care what all you other haters and naysayers say. Dogie is the guy I got to for anwsers, dont see any of you Dogie bashers creating guides Smiley

Thanks
2603  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: January 27, 2015, 04:27:28 AM
I just ordered a S5 and another SuperNova 1300 (Which from what I understand can easily run 2 S5's, and maybe 3, if you split the 6pin leads, though I would need to poke at that more, before I try. Has anyone, or does anyone know away to monitor the S5 though something like Anubis, or Minera, or Multiminer?  I would like to have all my miners on 1 sheet of glass, so I can just poke at it when I want to see how they do doing (Temps, has rates, HW errors, etc)

Thanks

An Evga SuperNova 1300 can run 2 S5s, definitely not 5. They've got 8 PCI-Es, as 2 S5s have so you won't have to do any splitting. You can monitor via the webpage, or a third party application like M's miner monitor. You should be able to turn on API support on your cgminer running the R-Boxes, so you can also add them into this.

Please consider filling out a quick survey about my guides to help improve them! You'll be entered into a raffle to win 2x $20 vouchers as a thank you.

Bitmain are real scumbags they just raised the price to $370 as of this post. The can go ram it up the furthest part of there ass fuck you BITMAIN !

Tone down your language please. You don't have to buy it if you don't like the price. This isn't food or water here.

you diluted too much the fluid or it does not have enough alcohol or glycol in it
look for some biocide or antimicrobial or anti algae
i use vodka Grin

Its not a concentrate that one, its premixed.
2608  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 26, 2015, 01:33:28 PM
I agree Bitmain should have done more testing with the PSU and fans, and I have feedback to them. IMO, the psu failure could be due to the amp draw by 110/120v circuit and as for fans, they probably wasn't expecting it to be running at 100% rpm. China uses 220/240v like in Singapore, so testing is probably based on that. Same with the fan, probably tested in an environment that does not require the fans to be running at max rpm.

Neither of those components were designed or manufactured by Bitmain, so its a bit unfair to suggest they haven't done proper testing. They'll have done as comprehensive testing as physically possible, but its not always possible to verify someone elses claims of a 10,000 - 50,000 hour life time over a sensible timeframe. To some degree you have to trust that components already being sold into the market place by the 50,000 are established.

zerocoder, the company and their miners are real and good (those that I have received are), deliveries have a chance to be delayed, but the company responds accordingly, that's all I can share with you.

I ordered 2 Ares and received them. Theyve answered all my emails which consisted of power supply suggestions and firware upgrade. Both units are running fine and i have no complaints.

what software do you guys use to monitor how watts and/or volts are being consumed?

Kill-a-watt's or similar physical power consumption monitors.
2611  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.25/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 25, 2015, 05:39:19 PM
I know they have removed any references to the 9v under-volt from the product description now, but on release they said you can undervolt to 9v to achieve better efficiency, thus the quote for the rated voltage is for running the unit at standard settings, but I was refering to over-voltage here.
So the question remains, what is the safe overvolt voltage for the S5?

You know the answer to this already, 12V. No one else is going to officially validate that anything above 12V is safe.
What purpose does it serve for you to affirm what you know I already know? And where in my question did I ask for official validation, bearing in mind that you know that I know that bitmain do not offer support for overclocking? Honestly, you need to find a day job and leave questions you clearly cannot answer to those that can.
So the question stands, what is the safe overvolt voltage for the S5?

As does the answer, 12V?
2612  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 25, 2015, 05:30:48 PM
Bubbleman is back!

I bought 6 total C1's and I have just one that constantly gives me problems. I haven't cleared the bubble situation completely yet, because soon as I move my radiator around all the air pockets that accumulated over time spits out into the pump, creating more bubbles. The highest temperature I've seen on it was 41C, so I won't worry about it much. And it is hashing over 1000Gh/s but have to keep the voltages at 755 on all of them to get that speed, which uses more electricity. I have to check out my electric bill soon to see what I'm paying, I could be wasting money here not even realizing yet.

And yet, another question. On ALL my C1's I have all the tubes are still clear. You can see right through them. No residue or anything on the inside, EXCEPT that one damn C1 I'm always having trouble with. While I was troubleshooting my bubble issue I noticed the hose going from the miner to the radiator was a weird color. So I emptied out some of the coolant and replaced that host with a fresh new one. Now the new hose is starting to form this algae or whatever it is inside the hose. This is just a matter of days to a week here. Should not happen. I have used nothing else in the loop except the coolant recommended by Dogie in the first post. All my other C1's are running this same coolant and all 5 of them still have clear hoses. All except this one C1. It's like a cursed C1. What could be causing this green crap to stick on the inside of the hose? Any sugggestions? All the other hoses in the loop are fine. Just the one hose. It seems every weekend I have a weird baffling issue with this C1. I guess it doesn't like me. Here is a picture so you know what I'm talking about.

Hmm. The presence of algae suggests you've got open air access somewhere. Has your fluid level been dropping over time?

Fluid level has been fine since I filled it only 3/4 of the way. Soon as those air pockets start to fill up in the radiator. I notice the reservoir rise up a little. The question is, why is it happening to only one tube in the loop? All the other ones are fine. This one C1 is making me nuts. I haven't had to touch to the other ones since I got them. This one running in my kitchen for a little heat I've had to spend quite some time on it.

Weird things will happen local to a leak. It could be a leak which isn't really submerged so you're not losing fluid.

Maybe consider adding a note regarding selling your S3:
Change the login and pass back to root / root please. For the purchasers out here it makes things work when we open the box if we can access the GUI. Smiley

If you're buying a second hand S3 from Ebay / Amazon etc, that's up to the seller. Bitmain can't regulate that or force sellers to upgrade their firmware / set password to default.
2615  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Could ASIC-producers perform a block withholding attack? on: January 25, 2015, 05:16:32 PM
Right, these miners have to be somewhere. But it is almost impossible to detect a distributed block withholding attack, isn't it?

At a pool level, not really. You know the GH of all users over a time period, and how many blocks solved, how many you'd expect to find = luck. Get enough data and if you're being BWDOS'ed then you'll start picking up trends which are a statistical improbability.

a) There would be absolutely no reason for a mining company to spend $2-8M on a chip run which has the sole purpose of bogging down a pool.
It would be quite trivial for a chip that requires a secret code before it will find blocks...
It could even only react once the timestamp is sufficiently far in the future - we've seen this before with optimised FPGA bitstreams (although they stopped finding any shares when the time hit).

So what would the required specifications of said chip have to be to be sold en mass to the market?
  • Competitive GH/$
  • Competitive W/GH
  • Competitive package costs / other board components blah blah blah

And that, is going to cost $2-8M to do. Sure you could replicate it on an FPGA, but then it wouldn't hit any of the above criteria. If you did replicate it on an FPGA, the hash rate would be not be enough to care about it.

So.... assuming someone does have $2-8M to burn on a latest gen chip, again why would they do this? Why would they turn that money to dust while risking jail and every penny they have in order to pull something off. To attempt BWDOS competing pools? Lets assume that's why as its the only suggested reason so far. So now we have to assume that

  • ...they could harm a pool's luck sufficiently [that's a lot of money wasted]
  • That users would actively move from a pool with low luck, more so now than
  • That those users wouldn't simply jump onto BTCGuild, Ghash etc and instead would land on your intended pool target.

Right. So with the above 8 assumptions completed, great you've got more users on your pool. But as Luke has previously mentioned, pools don't make bucketloads of money, and certainly not $2-8M [unless you're a platform rather than a pool].

And how many pools would be in a position to monetise users, while also being large enough to receive some of the ship-jumping miners? About 3 companies. All of whom would not risk doing this in the first place, when they could either keep the money or properly sell a latest gen chip to the marketplace.

2617  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Could ASIC-producers perform a block withholding attack? on: January 25, 2015, 03:06:25 PM
0) Its pretty transparent because those miners have to be somewhere, as we can see that. Most are on large pools for non lottery earnings, which again we can see.

a) There would be absolutely no reason for a mining company to spend $2-8M on a chip run which has the sole purpose of bogging down a pool. They would essentially be setting money on fire, both in production and electricity costs. Again, what incentive would that company have to sell these miners? It would be crazily obvious because the expected 'luck' and actual network block finding rate would separate. Miners can be infected with various naughty software but not on a large scale without being detected, especially with open source.

b) Why? Why would they waste money doing this? They would lose 1000x the money they could make from pools, even assuming that people would 1) move from their pool due to bad luck, 2) land at the desired pool.

tldr, no no and no.
2618  Other / Meta / Re: auctions section spammed by crap domains on: January 25, 2015, 01:02:50 PM
I think a Digital Goods auction could be beneficial as they're do seem to be a lot and people generally don't seem to be that interested in them.

There's been 3 or 4 meta threads (including one of mine) about domain spam in auctions. I think it would be sufficient to have a domains subforum rather than a full split. Else you'll get things like the forum's advertising thread still smashed under 500 domain topics.

Is there any way to tell which S3's have the variable voltage?

my one and only  S3 is a batch 8 everything else i have is S3+

I'd like to know the answer to this too.  I've installed the firmware that should allow voltage control on one of my S3s and it appears to have no effect.  Any way to determine batch without opening them up?

The versions are cross batch so it doesn't help. The solution is as you've done, alter voltage at the same clocks and see if power consumpption changes.
2620  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: January 25, 2015, 09:41:48 AM
Just trying to set up my S5 and the "find your miner" software gives me a "wrong IP format "error. I have put in the WAN IP address from the router setup browser which ends with 188 ( I tried adding a .1 also but that doesn't help) has anyone any clues please?

Thanks

In that box it wants the subnet, ie 192.168.1. Then the next boxes are the range to search on that subnet.
