1901  Other / Meta / Re: What's wrong with "necromancing" an old thread? on: March 31, 2015, 06:44:52 AM
The "don't necro post" rule is more in place for general common sense reasons. Use your best judgement, you can post in old threads without it being against the rules as long as your post is still relevant. What we don't want people doing is going into 3 year old sales threads, or GPU mining discussions and posting, "Hey do you still have this?" Or, "Why would you bother mining with your GPU, ASICs have made them obsolete" etc. The warning is there to let you know that the topic is old and any information might be outdate or that the thread may have been concluded long ago. If its a jokes thread, there probably isn't an issue with necro posting in it.

That makes perfect sense, yet the warning message doesn't really give that impression and even seems to encourage needlessly replicating thread topics. Perhaps rephrasing the message a little would help.

May I suggest something more along the lines of...
Warning: This is an old topic that has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
Please refrain from making comments or replies that may no longer be relevant.

That wording may be a bit too lax. The next person to post wouldn't get that warning and may not see that the reason people are offering btc for $2 each is because the thread is years old. And so begins the circle jerk of wtf Huh

for the last three years I've legitimately left HUNDREDS of negative trust ratings on hundreds of scammers.  If I get removed, all that disappears into untrusted feedback.  Many accounts have been abandoned, but I'm sure many would come back given a legacy account and a clean slate to scam again.

I've got a lot of your phishing ones covered now, although there are likely some I've missed. You can check which accounts are vulnerable because they'll only have -4 or -6 ratings which is from 1 person.

(Speaking of hypocrisy, Tecshare has left at least three people negative feedback based on feelings alone.  Why is he complaining if he feels others do it?)

Indeed. This specific complaint gets banded about a lot but its pretty contradictory.

Will read the SS wall when its not 8am the night after.
1903  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 31, 2015, 01:43:21 AM
Thinking of two S5, outside of footprint, is there a real compatibility advantage to buying one EVGA Supernova 1300 Gold Vs two Corsair CX750M Bronze?  I understand the CX750M measures as an 825W supply (per Dogie), so it seems to me the reason to choose the 1300 is less space and fewer power cords.  Right or wrong?

[For reference, almost all of the Corsair PSUs have an additional 10% 'peak' rating and so have additional capacity.]
1904  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: March 31, 2015, 01:42:04 AM
Of the 6 I just ordered one is running noticeably hotter than the rest.  I think I know what I'm doing next weekend.

Temperature difference between the 2 hashing PCB was reported to the engineers and it was reviewed.  So far, it is not the hardware caused issues, but rather where and how the miners are being deployed and managed per the engineers.

The temperature sensors are also rather crude, and on a large scale there will be plenty of 'miscalibrated' ones. I'd be more suspicious of the sensor reading incorrectly than one board running significantly hotter.
1905  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: March 31, 2015, 01:35:49 AM
Could I use two PSU to feed one S5?

I have one thermaltake of 750W and a Corsair of 750W both bronce certified.

My understanding is that this would be fine so long as you use one psu per card.

That's correct, as long as each PSU is appropriately powerful enough to power one blade, you can use a pair of PSUs to power a blade each.

Hello, How much amps do each blade needs?

I have a CX750 (750w, single rail 62A @ +12V)Corsair PSU. It has two PCIe connector.
I wonder if I could run a S5 with this PSU.
tia

Yes you can, about 300W per blade.

your "judgment" needs improvement which causes delay on your return to trust list.

What makes you think I seek to be on the trust list? You assume you know what I want but you are wrong. I have said repeatedly the default trust system needs to be removed. What I want is to be able to use the forum that I have contributed to for years without having rules enforced upon me that I am not also protected by. If I should be removed from the default trust for supposedly stifling free speech, why is it another user can then ACTUALLY repeatedly abuse that same system to try to intimidate me into stop talking about his abusive behavior without repercussion?

Theymos outwardly says the trust system is unmoderated, and yes has taken exceptional actions to have people removed from default trust solely for the sake of protecting "free speech", yet when some one like Vod leaves people negative trust for being critical of his actions over and over it magically goes unseen. Have you every asked yourself why there is no official forum rules posted ANYWHERE on the forum? Kind of hard to follow the rules if they aren't posted anywhere right? Unfortunately though when you make rules they apply to everybody, and then those with the authority to act would not be as free to do whatever they liked either. The trust system has turned into a protectionist system. Do as I say, not as I do. This is antithetical to the core concepts of Bitcoin.

Theymos has a right to do whatever he wants, but when he as an individual makes these choices about individual cases of a trust disputes, then he is in fact moderating trust regardless if he wants to be Theymos the individual or Theymos the admin. He is always both because his actions result in the same amount of force.

That's quite a stretch. You'd then have to argue that making top level choices on these forums (such as subforums, hosting choices and site development) are a form of moderation. Obviously they're not, they're an extension of administrative duties separate from moderation.
1908  Other / Meta / Re: A place to dispute and settle cases about various matters on: March 30, 2015, 07:51:04 AM
Meta is good enough for community thoughts/decisions.

A separate board besides scam accusations would not work efficiently

Well you end up seeing the threads like the "dogie" thread, they refuse to provide evidence to their claims or even detail what the claims are and I can't reverse force them. That's what the reverse threads would allow - self vindication.
1909  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF3301 Tapeout Complete [Updated 10/3/15] on: March 30, 2015, 07:04:30 AM
Dual mining technologies on a single chip is not a good idea, there are almost no common parts between the two hashing engines, the silicon for the scrypt engine is a waste of space unless LTC price goes up considerably. Also, the scrypt engine will be relatively power hungry.

...As for SFARDS I wish them good luck with their chip, especially with routing it.
i agree. There's very little real benefit to this compared to simply having seperate sha256 and scrypt mining devices. pretty sure whatever gridseeds are still in use are 100% dedicated to BTC at this point.

I believe the sentiment this time around is that it allows one set of hardware, one set of investments and one setup to swap algorithms as profitability shifts. With a flatter difficulty, each generation *should* be installed longer. Last time it didn't really work because almost immediately the sha256 side wasn't competitive / wasn't worth the cooling hassle compared to the profitability of the scrypt side.

Its hard for us to comment this time around without knowing the exact specs of the 3 modes and the arrangement of the hardware.

Us? Do you think you're Queen Victoria?

Seriously, do the maths and you'll see exactly why this configuration is a very bad idea. If you can make any such arrangement work, then there's something seriously wrong in your calculations.

If you need any help, just post here.

How can you determine that without knowing the specifications of scypt mode only, sha256 mode only and combined?

Hey smith can you provide a step by step tuto to use your firmware? I know you helped Prelude with S4 so I trust you on that firmware.  Grin
No special knowlege or steps needed, just download firmware form nicehash(https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=software#asic), load it via web interface System->Upgrade, wait 90 seconds, done.
Also you can navigate to http://miner_ip/cgi-bin/graph.rrd to see some perf graphs. They collected locally in background every 60 seconds, stored in /config folder so the stats will survive reboots.

Let me know if people (including time travellers) want mirrors on these, I'll download and keep copies.
1911  Other / Meta / Re: How many type of ban? on: March 29, 2015, 09:10:45 PM
Insubstantial posts + paid signature spam = 14 days, 60 days, permanent
Ban evasion = ban length x 2

Other than that I don't think it's written in stone. I can request 3 days ban for a user for small warning about changing their behavior.

What is the sentence for users who don't have a signature campaign but still seem to be cutting posts short? [Do you have to assume the account is being farmed to sell?]

can anyone with RMA experience share if it is necessary to send the entire miner back or can i just send the faulty parts. Thanks

If you can diagnose exactly what part it is, you can send that part in if you arrange it with the US team in advance. Contact them via ZenDesk. Be sure to link to your post describing the issues, what type and how many miners you wish to have repaired/replaced and your bitmaintech.com order number.

Esegi, this wire is what they do in reality?
And this is where I have to do the 20-pin of the wire you have a separate cable and connect the cable if such cases there will still be a need to do it immediately psu on my race?

The wire (paperclip) shorts the "start" circuit of the psu, turning it on. The wire must remain their otherwise the psu will turn off. A computer motherboard would usually do this, giving control to a computer power button.
1916  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: March 29, 2015, 07:07:40 PM
This wire is necessary ?

Yes. The antminer will not turn on without it.

Any wire may is ?

If this 20pin dont have my psu , what do i?
This 20 pin that will dont connect psu
