What should the fan speed be at higher temps?
Or more specific, 50 - 60 or higher, shouldn't I see 4k RPM with stock fans?

You might see 4080 or 3960 depending on the combination of temperatures.

you wouldn't happen to have a product code for some suitable fans? I discovered one faulty.
EDIT: I'm asking as I noticed fan connector is bit different than regular PC cooler has...

Corsair SP120 High Performance Editions are suitable for the front intake fans as long as you have the originals on the rear as they're the ones that do most of the static pressure work. I don't have a PN for the rear fans though.

Hello

I bought a used Antminer S3 but the user and password "root" doesn't work. The previous owner must of changed it.

Anyway to reset it?
Check Dogie's guide at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=702653.  There is a reset switch accessible from the front panel, next to the 2 LEDs and Ethernet connector.  You power it up, press the reset button through the hole using a paper clip or similar thin object, hold it for 5-10 secs.  This will reset it to factory defaults, including the password.

Cheers

Are the lights suppose to change when pressing the button? They all stay lite, like pressing it does nothing.

Yes they are, suggests the unit is on a firmware where the reset button's functionality is broken. While you wait for your seller to reply to your password email, you can SSH and control them from there. This will at least get you up and running.

1) SSH to S3, Login root/root
2) Type "screen -r". Wait for all the messages to go through.
3) Type "P" to enter Pool Management.

Any context to that 5 month neco?
2666  Other / Meta / Re: As Chief of Police of the Crypto Police Department I Subpoena the forums on: January 21, 2015, 07:59:00 AM
I'm sure Sirius, justmoon and all the donators, and not to mention the IRS, will be interested to see it.

1) The forum files and pays taxes
2) The forum itself is not a registered company [that I've seen], and so has to be owned by an individual - it doesn't exist as an entity on its own.

I would like to ask one major question. Why in the hell are so many people worried about 250BTC that was property of the forum? The 250BTC is meaningless to the forum, how it is ran or even in the development of the new forum. That 250BTC will never impact your current user experience or any in the future. Again, why are so many people worried about that 250BTC?

1) Why do you add TWO line breaks between every sentence?
2) Why do you type another THREE line breaks to sign every message? We know who is writing the message because of the user info which magically appears alongside posts.
3) At what point does it become meaningful? 500? 1000? 2500 BTC? All of it is money which could be used for one thing or another.

Reset button will do that, assuming the unit was on one of the newer firmwares where it works.

Somebody knows any solutions to make the green led solid green not blinking when the machine works?

It's no good to wait for the blinking when I check the machines....

If you halved the miner difficulty, the average time between green flashes [if we're talking about the same LED?] should half. Who knows which file LED behaviour is stored in...
2669  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 21, 2015, 07:42:57 AM
Hello, I'm actually trying to UNDERclock the C1, but the SSH isn't working... I'm trying to follow the same steps that I would to under/overclock a S3, but its not working.

I can get in, end up at root@AntC1:~#, but when I try to vim /etc/config/asic-freq/ it says vim not found, and if I try to use vi it opens a blank document.

Any ideas?

Why aren't you just going into the GUI menu and selecting the Advanced tab?

Oh my god this is amazing.  Thank you!

I assumed you were doing something more adventurous so I didn't mention it Tongue
2670  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 21, 2015, 07:42:19 AM
Could my router be causing this?

No, router problems would look different.

I get a bit of confusion with these speed ratings. all my antminers together push 3.5 TH/s hashrate how does do convert into internet speed bandwidth requirements?

Network bandwidth per miner with an appropriate difficulty set is ~1 Kb/s, so you could run approximately 1,500 miners on your connection before bandwidth was limiting. Even then, you could just increase miner difficulty.

is a 10/100mbs router switch good enough for hashing?

So... yes.

all my antminer S3's run prettty stable but this C1 is all over the place. Or is it something to do with the connection to the pool. The pools at fault? I just can not believe this roller coaster on the hashrate graph on the pools dashboard. So much variance.

1) Can you post a picture of the graph please?
2) What are the long term averages, as that is what matters. Miner hash rate varies with random variance, so zooming in too much is incorrect.
3) What miner difficulty do you have set? Running each miner as its own worker or combined on one miner?
4) Can you post a picture of the C1's status page please?
2671  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive SpondooliesTech SP20 Setup [HD] on: January 21, 2015, 07:36:15 AM
Hey guys,

I got my 3 SP20 Jackson's about a week ago and i love them, since they were in my living room - I only ran them at night, now I moved them to an empty room. So when i came home today and power on my rigs, i could not connect to myminer.io. Is Spondoolies-tech server down?

Thank you,

As far as I can tell, myminer.io is a local service hosted by your miners - so if you can't connect then they may not be connected to your network. Sometimes you'll see a fragment or old version of the page when no devices are connected. How are they connected now?

Got it Thanks.

No problem.

Okay guys, while its inevitable that there will be a certain amount of discussion about mining speculation that will occur here, can you take the big discussions to that subforum please? This thread is designed for those looking for hardware / troubleshooting / technical information about S5s specifically.

Nice...

by the the new BM1384 chip has a max operating temp of 125c...(weather it's ambient or chip temp not sure) but either way, it can run 60-70c just fine..that's why the software has a stop mining is reached 80c checkbox. Smiley

see for your self:
https://www.bitmaintech.com/files/download/BM1384_Datasheet_v2.0.pdf

chapter: 4Electrical Character
section: 4.2.

have a nice day Smiley and the vrm's and other components are the same way new = better

DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE!!!

I said this in the other thread, 125C is a TJ, the sensor you're reading is likely on the PCB and so when its reading 70C, its probably 120C on the actual chip. Do your own research before asking others to do their research when your advise may be catastrophic for their products.

dogie gets a head scratch as well. Thanks!!

Bitmain - Why don't you just sell these as singles or a min. order of two? Why require five? At a small qty it would be an impulse buy and you would most likely sell many. But at the current btc rates requiring a buy of 5 or more these units are expensive in terms of btc for the lack of bang for buck you get for these units. These are units for playing around with, not serious mining. You need to sell them as such instead of requiring bulk buys. I would want one or two, not five or twenty.

Shipping. The bulk kits go to localised resellers so end customers can buy one at a sensible price. Have a look on Amazon etc.

To power your new S5 which PSU or PSU's would you use? Why?

Single HX850W? Single HX750W? Single CX750M? Or twin CX600s or twin CX500Ms?

Likely overclock in the future. All PSU's are Corsairs.

thanks all

Single CX750M is the best buy for EU, EVGA 1300W for the US. I would have said the RM1000 if S5s had been just a bit lower power consumption as those things are amazing, but alas its just a bit too much for 2x on an RM1000.
